No fucking way…

I just sang “Love Will Tear Us Apart” at karaoke last weekend and the only reason that song has any meaning to me whatsoever is because of motherfucking MJ

Absolutely tragic RIP

Was literally talking to a friend about him screaming "what now?!" at a ledge two days ago. This is surreal.

RIP to an incredibly talented human being.

Genuinely terrible news.

Always wished we could have seen just a little bit more. Feels like the kind of skater who could/should/would have thrived in their 40s with the resurgence in curb clips etc, especially when there was nothing left to prove.

Seven Steps to Heaven changed my life. After kooking it on drugs for a few years, the peak enjoi period is what brought me back to skating. Marc was that skater, like a lot of us, who didn’t grow up rich, had too much energy, tried a little too hard sometimes, was smarter than most, and boundlessly creative. He also happened to be one of the most gifted to ever step on the board. Hope he knew how much love people had for him. Condolences to his friends and family. He inspired so many people.

Like so many others I hoped he was just going through a rough time and would eventually figure things out. This is so tragic and I really don’t have the words. I am crying as I post this.

Fuck man. What a fucked up thing to find on SLAP this evening.

I've had coffee with Marc a couple times. He was quirky, honest and a huge skate nerd. He was down to earth and even though I wanted to fan out, he kept things cool. He didn't want adoration, he wanted to talk to someone like a peer. He made an important and surreal moment in my life feel normal.

What a bummer. He was an amazing skater, but more than that he was a great dude.

I've never cried over a skateboarder I didn't personally know before. This is truly fucking devastating. Thanks for everything Marc! I'm so sad...my heart hurts. Lots of love to those directly impacted!

One of the best to ever do it. I had to re read louie’s statement, he did not deserve the away days incedent.

Mj Blessed us all with so much. Thank you for everything Marc ❤️

I always wanted Lakai MJ-1s, even till this day.

One of the greatest to ever step on a board. So few if any others could match his level of going ultra tech while almost always staying super stylish. Has always been one of my favorites of all time. On top of that created such an original brand in the early Enjoi years. The skateboarding community has truly lost a legend today.

Just absolutely horrific. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Speechless. Fully Flared was the first "big" video released after I got really into skateboarding, so of course Marc's part had a huge impact on me. I also didn't start reading Thrasher until 2012, and MJ's casper stall was the first issue I bought off of the newsstand. RIP in peace, Marc.

RIP.

This is so sad.

His 411 part put me on to that Promise Ring song he skated to. I haven't listened to it in years but just put it on now and it brought me back to feeling like an early teen again. RIP.

goddamn what a loss. his skating was a game changer for me, the first skater who made aware of what style is on a skateboard, and what it could be. his parts changed how i dressed, what i listened to. i still remember wearing lakai mj1’s doing varial flips in my parents driveway listening to “keep it like a secret”.

I’m gutted. I don’t know what else to say right now.
I’ve never been rocked by a “celebrity” death like this.
He was, is, and always will be my favorite skater.
Fuck.

RIP to a true true legend, every video part stands the test of time and from his trick selection, spots, style and fits, I loved it all.

Looking back I honestly think the Adidas controversy was way too harsh on MJ, it seemed like he never truly recovered since the Carrol interview on Jenkem, he just never seemed to have that spark since and you could tell he was deeply hurt. I honestly think we as skaters kind of failed him, he gave us so much yet the one time he makes a slight misstep in communication with the Adidas thing, it felt like the industry threw him to the mud and piled on him for a while.
