RIP to one of the greatest skaters ever, and likely the first white man to be aware enough to shave his dome before his shit started looking too crazy. Legend.

He had so much style. Still does wherever he is. I’m scared for skateboarding because you can’t replace him. I hope you’re doing amazing wherever you are Marc. The world was better for you having been in it.

Absolutely heartbreaking.  What an immeasurable loss.  I'm so sorry.

The skater of my dreams, if I could skate like anyone.

First time I saw early footage of him I knew that Rocco / Rodney would get him for one of their best teams.

My first wife (RIP) bought me Fully Flared.  She found an interview where he talked about some of his struggles and that really connected with her, and Marc became one of her favorites too.

Thank you Marc for the beautiful skateboarding and laughs and inspiration

Heartbreak. Yeah Right was my first video and his part was always my favorite. Huge inspiration as a weird kid from nowhere. Massive loss
No fun allowed. Also get your phone out and film this for my insta edit. Also don’t breath too loud. Bitch.

I used to watch his 411 part to the promise ring on repeat, I felt like that part was a real development in skateboarding that i could feel, even at a young age.

Marc was one of the greatest to do it.

My condolences to his friends and family. Rest in Peace.

This is very heartbreaking, I'm sure even moreso for those family and friends that actually knew him as a person.

49 seems very young in this day and age, and regardless of how it happened it's not going to be easy for anyone around him to deal with.

He will be sorely missed but his contribution to skating won't be forgotten anytime soon.
It's impressive how difficult it is to pick what his best part is, he has had such strong output as a pro.
Personal fav is probably Pretty Sweet. Bowie. Fakie 5-0 fakie 360 flip out.
He made the impossibly precise stuff look so good.

Reat in Peace.

So shocking and sad. Skateboarding is better for having him.

The first skateboarding magazine I ever bought. Saw Yeah Right around the same time and MJ became one of my favorites ever since.

This one hurts even for those of us who weren't superfans. I've watched Yeah Right! a million times and his part is a highlight, no doubt about it.

Rest easy, Marc, and if there's any family or friends of his reading this: I'm so sorry.

Rest in peace Marc.
My condoleances to his family and friends.

I don’t how you guys can have favorite MJ parts. That’s like choosing a favorite child.

Every part was brilliant.

In the later part of this interview he gets quite emotional and talks about how he shouldn't be alive right now and how skateboarding saved his life. Rest in peace Marc. One of the best to ever do it. Watched some AI memorial video of him (which he probably would have hated). It had one good line: He turned concrete in to canvas. A true artist on the board.

I've never really cared about celebrity deaths, but I was shook for days after Dylan died. I'm feeling the same way about Marc.

After gathering my thoughts. I’ve mentioned this before. In an era where people weren’t able to just upload a video part to YouTube or finding a filmer was harder. MJ’s run over 10 years from Seven Steps to Heaven until Fully Flared had to be one of the most impressive and consistent outputs we’ve ever seen for that era. Seemed every other year he was pushing skateboarding further. He seemed able to do any trick he wanted on a board. Not only was he pushing skateboarding further on a tech level, he looked amazing doing it, doing it fast and smooth. During that time frame when it came to tech skating it felt like him, Koston and Daewon were at the forefront for over a decade each.

Yesterday skateboarding lost someone whose influence on it can never be understated.

it's sad that he never seemed to fully realize his impact either despite all of these incredible achievements. poor guy. depression is a motherfucker to deal with. at least his sense of humor was always there and he did have some of the funniest skate video quotes. those tiltmode clips of him in the wig still makes me giggle when i think of it

I've been obsessed with this frontside nose in Modus (4:05 into his part on YT) since I was like 19 years old.
Slides the whole damn rail, just chillin, lands with the steezy as fuck arm tuck. So goddamn good.
It's the front nose I'm thinking about any time I'm rolling up to do one (on a ledge, not a handrail)

I ordered a deck from him after B&C went under and he was just kinda dropping a few here and there on Instagram, when I got the box he'd written my name with a little heart on it with a sharpie, and blacked out a bunch of the letters of Business & Company so that it read BU__N___ _ _____NY.
So goddamn glad I kept that box.

Heartbreaking news, condolences to his fam & friends.

Marc came through town in the early 2000s with Louie, Jose Rojo and Matt Evs they were filming for Man Down. the thing that I remember most about them is how united they were, not only b/c they were great friends, but how much in synch they were, like in their own bubble, they were in their zone, their humor and inside jokes, their lens on how to approach skating, it was something remarkable to see. like the world was theirs and we were just extras on the scene...their cohesion, their unity, it all stemmed from Marc's leadership. if they were the beatles, Marc was John Lennon.

Even as it was happening, I knew I was lucky to see him skate. This manny flip 5-0 was from that trip, a combo that felt stright from THPS. I hope you have found peace MJ. I love you.
