didn't see this video in this thread yet--i've always loved this part, of course Marc Johnson is as incredible as ever, but also seems like a special time for Enjoi as well and the song just works...dear god, what a fucking loss.
If you hadn’t posted it I eventually would’ve.
This was the first video I ever saw. This Enjoi section is the last part, always thought that was a cool way to end that amazing video. If you love Tilt Mode and haven’t seen Jaded I can’t recommend it enough.
My first board was an Enjoi Mullen. Not long ago I found the print of the graphic, done by Marc of course. It’s time to go get it framed.

My dope local little shop in bumfuck Australia always had Enjoi. One of my first skate buddies had this dopest MJ board posted below. Marc dedicated it to either Chris Avery or Mark Whiteley, one of them. I love how meaningful and purposeful Marc’s approach was. If you go back, you will often find things that line up or make sense to Marc’s actions. Very thoughtful man.
My friend threw Roofies grip on this MJ board. The grip with weed leaves everywhere. We were 12. Wild stuff. Shit like that is burned into brain and just connected me more to skating that I just
had to keep doing it.

I was so jealous of my friend’s MJ board. I wanted a Marc board, not this board with a monkey and shit on it! But hey, at least Marc did the graphic. Good enough for me in retrospect.
I found the MJ board on eBay years ago but didn't grab it. Still regret that. I do have a really old Enjoi MJ for the wall, the other one with the guitar. Classic Enjoi colours with a border.
Looking back on stuff like that shows how decent of a human Marc was, so much love for everyone else. Like someone else said, it all felt like we knew him. He’s one I never got to meet or see skate, but it feels like I did. His reach was that powerful.
I remember using my skateboard to get away from shit situations as a little kid, too. I’m so thankful that Marc would speak on those things later. I would always revisit interviews on him because he was so genuine.
About a year or two later at another friend’s house I saw Yeah Right for the first time just after it came out. Marc’s part popped up and I was already familiar with him from Jaded and from that board I wanted so badly. I think him and Koston were the only guys I knew at that point from that video. It was so sick to see him still skating those San Jose spots on Enjoi boards. Even better, seeing him skate some Australian spots was the cherry on top, that first line in Melbourne! Why does no one talk about that massive road gap bs flip? He’s going so fast. The guy was so smooth that his speed didn’t always translate, but he never skated slow. Incredible.
I loved Enjoi from 2002 through to Bag of Suck and beyond with Tilt Mode stuff. For a long time I didn’t know Marc was behind Enjoi. Those early graphics, ads, this Jaded enjoi section, it all meant so much and hooked me into skateboarding forever. He just understood what skateboarding could mean to us. I remember being so pumped for Bag Of Suck, hoping he’d at least have some tricks. I was so Enjoi focused I didn’t see Fully Flared til a little bit later, haha.
Going back to that Jaded Enjoi section… MJ’s stuff is incredible. Boosted nollie flip 1:43. Balanced bs 5-0 on a rounded kinked rail 1:46. Fs flip nosegrind perfectly balanced will always be insane 3:07. Long ass balanced fs shuv nosegrind 3:15. No one can touch that. And of course the ender. Sorry to end on just Marc’s skating because he was so much more than that.
Thanks for everything, MJ. Marc forever.
