rog said he has the part last night. then when asked about it he just said “i asked marc if i could post it…” so they say ‘and?’ to which rog just replied “he never responded”. no reply isn’t a no.. like grosso telling them to take stuff out of the episode. which means there’s still hope.

imagine fucking the dog shit outta chris roberts

i think the footage was originally in an on video segment about an emerica tour?

I’m going to guess it’s the name of that little kid who’s hair he’s cutting in one of her photos and just a massive coincidence that it’s also a pro skater’s unique name/nickname

Beautiful tribute. I am somewhat surprised to see mention of CTE there, though he has doubtless hit his head a few times over the years. And did he do that portrait of the Gonz and the shoes drawing? I've been looking for art that he made, besides his parts. Would love to see more paintings he did.

there's like 4 clips of him smacking his head in fully flared alone. i wouldn't be surprised if the head trauma from slamming resulted in CTE. symptoms of CTE can take years, decades to show and later in life can manifest as dementia. the parts about his inability keep up with responsibilities of day to day life, his deteriorating mental capacity kinda hints at that. i also think about the "kindling" effect of alcoholism, how the cycle of bender -> withdrawal -> sobriety can cause the onset of withdrawal symptoms to come much quicker and more severely with every relapse. i don't know if he relapsed, but he's spoken a lot about his struggles with drinking and withdrawals before. i don't mean to speculate on his death, but it's just so depressing how tragically it ended for him. it's been said a lot that he "gave his all" for skateboarding, and it bears repeating. he sacrificed so much for it.

is that his partner/spouse?

RIP to Marc.

Can I just add that it's pretty fucking cool seeing dudes talking openly about their emotions here? It's really a welcome change.
The deck MJ autographed in my IG was also signed by all the pros that were there at the Bad*ss/Dumb*ss stop in San Diego.

I have replayed the memory of that moment in my head so many times now after reading about his passing, and I feel like professional skateboarders of that caliber have already seen so many guys just like me, at so many demos and signings, absolutely on the verge of exploding with adoration about to make things completely awkward for everyone around.

Thankfully, Brian Anderson was kind enough in that moment to compliment me on my matryoshka doll t-shirt disarming me from uttering whatever was about to explode forth that any of them could obviously see in my eyes. Instead, I graciously accepted his compliment and simply said thank you to each pro.

I wish it was okay then in 2006 to say that I loved him without it being weird. That seeing him bring out the absolute beauty of what a singularly focused skateboarder could achieve with sheer will and mastery was gasoline on my own inner flame to push what I could do myself.

I remember watching MJ’s part in Yeah Right on my laptop in the bowels of the naval ship USS Blue Ridge in the supply room where I worked alone somewhere on the Pacific Ocean just crying because I was overwhelmed. Tears of joy. So thankful to see something so beautiful with the level of appreciation I could see it from.

I really wish I could have eloquently conveyed that impact he had on me to MJ as he signed my deck.

Girl & Chocolate are getting absolutely cooked in the comments, how long before they start deleting them?

Marc did not deserve to be ex-communicated by Craigtap and countless people he considered close friends just for wanting/needing to make a living. MC really dragged his name through the mud while MJ remained silent (even during alcohol fueled nights).

The irony of MC wearing Adidas since the Lakai shitshow is deafening.

Rip to the tastemaker of all tastemakers, taste in art, in literature, in MUSIC, in clothing, in trick selection…all top notch.

Part of my sense of humor was shaped by Marc. Hearing the news about his passing felt really weird. I never personally knew or met him, but the feeling of someone that shaped who I am today being gone was a new feeling I haven’t experienced before

Prior to the Nine Club, there was The Back Forty Radio. If I’m remembering correctly, there was only one episode with Marc Johnson and Chris Roberts separated into two parts. Wondering if anyone remembers listening/watching the show. They played fuck, marry, kill at one point. I think the episodes are down now but if someone somehow has access to it, please share! It was pretty funny, and I had a good laugh from the fuck, marry, kill bit

Crail had every right to kick Marc off Chocolate, but MC made Marc persona non grata. No other board brand picked him up after the Jenkem article.

What about Adidas? Why don’t they get any shit? They lured him away and dumped him when his stock went down. Plenty of shame to go around.

Being angry at Adidas is like shouting into a void. Blaming Carroll cuts deeper because one of the perceived advantages of skating for something skater owned is that this type of shit doesn't go down like this.

Lets talk about morals: there are a diference to lie to your corporate boss, but lie to a friend. Carroll was his friend, things would be more transparent.

People here trying to blame carroll is a blunk type of behavier.

Thats was two grown man beef and business, both sides made mistakes. Let Marc rest motha fuckers.

At that point how many ex crail people were at Adidas? Who brokered the deal? Paul Shier? Scott Johnson and Cairo were there at that point. There are skaters in their skate brand that were cherry picking crail people at the time. I just think that he got lured and ultimately dumped.

Also, just wanted to say that I really respect and appreciate Louie B’s eloquent words about MJ, can’t imagine losing your three close friends Ben, Chris Avery, and MJ, in such a short amount of time, I hope he and all the loved ones affected are as well as they can be in a horrible situation like this. Been on a MJ deep dive and he was (we all know this) the shit and so far ahead of his time from a style, fashion, and skill, standpoint.

I've been asking @KyleCamarillo for years to post the lost MJ part where he skates to Chemical Brothers. I know it's mostly footage we've already seen, but maybe now's the time?

I hit up Bagley like a man, but no luck.

I spoke to Kyle at a NB demo a few weeks back and asked him about it. He said it was mostly seen footage and he had to ask for permission from other people, but according to him Marc was down to release it.

He was really nice btw, thanks Kyle.

Enjoi was Marc’s and even though Louie ran the company for years I can’t help to think about him creating it and being a San Jose based team was super sick … can’t possibly imagine what Louie and Jerry are feeling right now.

He deserves a lot of appreciation

Also crazy to think that the MJ shoes were shoes Phelps praised and was always seen wearing…didn’t he say he had a shit load of those shoes

Rog said he probably isn’t going to release the part because Marc never responded…said it on last night’s livestream

Dude, please have some humility and perspective. Marc never joined another board company, but you have no idea whether that was due to his own decision or not. It beggars belief to think that no other brand would have readily, happily, enthusiastically welcomed him. I'm not saying he necessarily had his pick - surely some people would have been wary of his apparent instability - but it's simply not correct to claim that he was forced out of the industry.

Further, claiming that Adidas should "share the shame" is straight up insane. They did not "lure" him away from Lakai - they offered him financial stability that Lakai was failing to deliver. MJ's tenure at Adidas ended because he had disappeared from public life.

Do you not understand what it means for a person to be mentally ill? Do you not understand that a person can lose their ability to think clearly, to manage their own actions, to deal with responsibilities and maintain relationships? By every indication from those close to Marc, this is what happened to him. No outside observer is qualified to literally diagnose him, but you'd have to be a fool to deny that he became consumed by some form of mental health disorder that prevented him from leading the kind of life he lead before. Obviously the turmoil and public backlash of the Lakai exit accelerated this process, but that awful situation was itself caused by Marc's apparent and worsening mental health crisis at the time.
Adidas eventually "dumped" Marc because things continued to get worse for him. The skate industry did not conspire against him; his mind turned against him. If you don't have any idea what that feels like, count yourself lucky.

I personally wish that Carroll had never done that Jenkem interview. I wish that at least one person at Girl-Chocolate had recognized that their friend was exhibiting troubling, altered behavior and that they had intervened instead of allowing things to blow up so spectacularly. I'm sure that Carroll is beside himself with regret and guilt right now. But the demand to assign blame - especially if you're an outsider, a member of the public who never knew Marc or anyone else involved in these disputes - is genuinely shameful and selfish. It makes you feel fleetingly righteous, gives you a frisson of anger, but it ultimately does nothing but perpetuate pain, rancor, and negativity.

I'm not trying to tell you how to feel or grieve, but just reflect on what you're hoping to accomplish with your statements in this thread, what do you want to contribute to the discourse that memorializes Marc Johnson.

Well fucking said.
For someone w.no signature ur awfully hostile, & that is why I do this
