definitely not AI.

Back in 2018, I digitized and imported all of Federico’s
footage onto an 18TB drive. I booted up the drive last week to dig up those attempts because I remember seeing them back then and was amazed Marc tried that. The spot is in LA at some school, I believe Yuto skated it recently.

There is also HPX attempts that Cory filmed ^ that I will tell Feds to post. The reason why the footage looks so trippy is that Marc is slightly out of focus. Probably also how damn long that rail is. There is no editing done to the clip (other than some colour correction). It was filmed on a phantom camera, so the slow mo was filmed in camera not using an editing program. I think the only thing that is throwing people off is that he is slightly out of focus.

The sessions from the last month of filming PS were pretty interesting, lot of dudes going for it trying some crazy tricks. Theres some real close ones of Alex trying frontside half cab flip a table after they filmed the drone intro

Rest In Peace Marc Johnson ❤️

I totally forgot he had a phantom during that time, i thought it was maybe that twixtor program people were using awhile back. Alex also had front tailslide impossible out on that long ledge dylan did front tail kickflip out on that he almost got, Kennys Sw bs smith sw 360 out, there was so much gnarly skating in that last month its hard to keep it all straight. hope you convince feds to post the angles of the front nose trick I remember that being a pretty crazy battle too. Maybe this weekend I can find some time to turn on these old drives and find something.

Thanks to you both for any effort to dig for never before seen footage.

Even just some between tries/behind the scenes banter or really anything y’all deem worth seeing.

I wonder if he’d get a kick out of knowing that a memorial thread about him on SLAP had partially turned into an argument/discussion about whether footage of him was AI.

It's been a short bit of time since Marc has gone and it doesn't feel real still. So much of my personality was shaped on parts he was in. From the music, to the style and taste. Built To Spill, Joy Division/New Order, The Rolling Stones, Yo La Tengo, The Walkmen. Listening to any of those bands now, or even songs from his videos he has parts in, now tie back to him, and that for me is perfect. No matter where I am in the world, or what part of the future, just a few of these songs could randomly play again, and it'll take me back to my childhood/teenage years watching Modus for the first time, or getting emotional at The Hot Chocolate Tour, or being absolutely blown away at Fully Flared.

One thing I'd like to mention about Marc which through my reading of these memorial comments in the thread is his engagement to news. He followed a wonderful journalist by the name of Abby Martin on Instagram. She has been outspoken about the apartheid in Palestine for years now, and to me that shows Marcs keen interest in hard-hitting journalism. His skating was art, and his mind was a complicated place that gifted us with some of the most amazing quotes, and tricks, and art.

I feel for this family and friends right now. I hope Avery has a strong support group around him at this time.

I put on Fully Flared and drank a bottle of wine the morning after the news broke and sat there on the couch, and sobbed. Goodbye Horses & Us is such a cruel pair of songs in this moment.

I received the news whilst on ecstasy from my friend/fellow Slap user Dan, and immediately went grey. My stomach ached and the euphoric high of the drug was swiftly and quite rightly washed away. It's amazing how a man from the US who I've never met could have such a profound impact on so many people around the world. The skateboard world shaped me to the person I am today, and Marc played such a pivotal role in that, I just wish I could have met him to thank him in person.

Rest in Peace Marc.

The world is that dimmer now you're not here.

My favourite MJ part. This is so upsetting.

Favorite part too. Saw this when I first started understanding what switch and fakie tricks were and I couldn’t wrap my head around how good he made everything “backwards” look when I was struggling to learn stuff regular. Crazy body of work - 7 Steps, Modus, Tilt Mode, all the legendary Lakai and Chocolate parts. Rest easy, Marc.
"Let's just do something stupid and ridiculous and just be as fucking regular as we possibly can."

His b/s noseslide nollie flip out on Hubba was also amazing. That trick always stuck out to me as a trick if done by someone without unbelievable style could have looked so terrible. Marc made it look so good. Can’t remember what video it was in.

Travelling at the moment, so I had to visit the closest shop in the area. There was a massive stack of mags and found this:

Also copped some Thunders in Marc’s memory. I’m a Venture guy, but I gotta at least try them again.

This picture is so cool, it truly represents such an amazing era in skateboarding when we felt we belonged to a secret club.

The fits, the style, the mentality everything was so different back then and Marc truly embodied that.

A real classic skateboarder.

Once again, Rest In Peace Marc Johnson.

This is the only 10+ page thread on Slap that I've managed to read every single post on so far. I feel like that  alone is a testament to how much of an impact Marc had on not just myself, but so many of us.

I had both the regular dvd and the weird mass produced one. MJ skated to what sounded like a demo version of Love Will Tear Us Apart which threw off the editing ever so slightly and just generally sounded worse. Definitely a downgrade. There were a few different songs for other skaters, but Marc's was always the most baffling because it was the exact same song, just a shittier version of it.
