Is there anything in the world that hasn’t been poisoned by racism and capitalism?
Torn-up knees, Terrible rich money-grubbing owners, thousand dollar nosebleed seats, ruptured achilles, confrontational drunk fans, public money for stadiums, concussions, fifteen-dollar beers, the knicks app, the national anthem, separated shoulders, gambling, little league dads, steroids, psycho competitors, ice skating moms, twenty dollar nachos, the celebration of psycho competitors, flopping, exploitation wearing the mask of opportunity, riding the bench for four years, playing hurt…
…but you get a ready-made sense of community, and (if you’re a fat old dude like me) you get to feel somehow connected to incredible athleticism.
Worth it? The way sports are in this moment, probably not. But the NBA thread has been my only social outlet for like two months. So there’s that.
