and saying "every legitimate & well known skater" is stretching it, so lets not even go there.   

watching pros skate is great when its filled with good tricks at interesting spots, but the berrics is more or less a bunch of pros doing the same tricks at the same spots.  i'm sure they try their ebst to mix it up but a lot of skaters have the same tricks and they're all pretty much hitting the same spots.  but really my opinion means nothing since their target audience is 20 years younger than me.

the spot is what street skating is all about, not the tricks.  don't let anyone tell you different.

Where I live there isn't much choice for kids, it's either the mall shop, or 510 in Berkeley. Ordering on-line doesn't work for them, they like to see the shit before they buy it.

As long as 510 gets all the love, then I don't have a problem with no shops in the Easy Bay. I remember that Destination 1550 trying to have a store and that was like a couple of blocks from the park and still no one went there. People would rather just support 510.

There's also Metro once you get a little deeper. It sucks both shops in Oakland that have opened recently have closed, but there is plenty of choice for kids in the bay area. Worst comes to worst if you live out there and don't have a car you can take the BART to 24th street station, skate 3 blocks east on 24th, and go to mission shop. Or you can go across the bay bridge into the city and go to DLX, FTC, HUF, Cruise, mission, purple skunk, and probably even more.
There is no reason anybody in the bay should be ordering mail order.

it's funny because the concord mall literally a block away has a zumiez in it and has for a long while, but metro is still (seemingly) doing good. i think the reason is because they're always doing shit, video premieres, have a good team and filming a video, and holding demos. having a miniramp in the shop doesn't hurt. they just held an osiris demo there two weeks ago, and they had a diy quarter pipe in the back made for it.

now, they're hosting a product giveaway contest over myspace. i'd consider them to be a pretty good example of how a shop can survive in not only tough economic times in general but also with mall shops trying to push them out.

i'm sure you have friends who say, "we're going street skating today"....do they go to a skate park to do it?  no they don't.  they hit the streets and look for interesting/different things to skate.  street skating takes place in the streets, thats why its called street skating.         

i'm over chasing money, how exactly is that a cop out?  i've been there and done that and it didn't make me feel any better.  now i make an 1/8th of what i used to make but i'm the happiest i've ever been.  that isn't exactly a cop out, thats how i choose to live.  not that it should matter to you anyway, i'm 3000 miles away, why you do even care about my life choices?

I've never in my life heard someone say "we're going street skating today"...Maybe that's what people say who skate park more than they do street? I don't know. We just said "let's go skate".

thats pretty much it.  i made a lot of money back in the day but all i ever did was work work work.  i'd start my day at 8 and and get home at 8.  i'd come home, take a shower, eat, maybe have a beer, watch some TV, pass out, only to do it all over again.  somehow thats not living.
i'm not knocking the people who want/have to do it.  some people have more responsibilities than others(wife, kid, mortgage, etc) but i don't have any of that so why shouldn't i enjoy myself.  i get to skate more often and i have all the free time in the world to do anything and everything else i enjoy and that to me is living. 
   
everyone and their moms has been selling me the american dream since the day i was born and it took me a while to figure out that i don't want what they're selling.  they can keep what they're selling, i want to live my dream on my terms.

Exactly. And I'm not saying you don't need money, you do. Everybody has to get a job, and there are a variety of jobs to get, some are all about getting as much money as possible, and others, money is just a small part of it. Some people do need to work to support a family and all of that, but that to me isn't money chasing. To me, money chasing is when that is your number 1 goal in life. Some people spend all of their time, even time off of work, trying to figure out ways to have more money , and it just seems to be missing the point to me. You should earn money to live, not live to earn money.
