Kids don't know about how good they have it these days.  When I started skateboarding at 13, it was jump ramps, curbs, streetplants and bonelesses.  There was a deficit of skate tricks outside of vert skating.  If there was a skatepark it was usually far as fuck and made of wood.  And you had to pay to skate this janky ass park.

Kids don't know about how awesome it was to skate and not be associated with rollerbladers, rip sticks, long boarders, or scooters.  It was just us and bmx.

The funny thing is that these days I like skating with younger kids more than people my own age because most of my friends get tired or are over it after skating for like an hour. I've always felt like if I didn't skate for at least 3 or 4 hours straight that I didn't really have a session.

this might be the only one i really agree with so far. kids do know about being 15, and whatever is happening in your life at that age is much cooler than whatever anybody else tells you is cool. sure, once you get older you realize that at 15 you're mostly an idiot, but as long as kids feel as strongly about what they're into at 15 as how i felt about what i was into at 15, i'm cool with it. sure, i think a lot of what goes on now in skateboarding SUCKS and isn't what skateboarding is really about, but i'm almost 34 years old! skating is gonna mean something much different to me. we all can tell people what we like and what we think is cool, but it doesn't matter- nobody is right. yeah there's things you need to respect and know, and it's the older generation's responsibility to help shape the younger one for the preservation of skate history and culture, but kids have to make their own contemporary values. if some mid-30s dude was trying to tell me about how skating  in 1975 was so much sicker than it was in 1991, i would have laughed in his face, and i can only imagine the same holds true today. BUT i am glad that places like this exist so that kids can at least have the opportunity to be exposed to stuff that means something to older generations. that's excellent.

I do understand that it's all a matter of perspective, and while a lot of the kids on here probably think I'm a grumpy old dick, I'm really just busting their balls. It's because (as corny as it sounds) I do care about where skateboarding is headed. So a lot of the time, I'm just saying what a lot of the older guys are thinking. The Gipster's post above this reinforces this. And even though I feel obligated to call out shit when I see it, you young bucks would probably be stoked on me if I showed up at your local park. I've been known to give away 5 or more boards to kids during a session, and I don't skate, dress, or act like an "old man". Your perspective only reaches the radius around your house in skating distance, but you have the rest of your lives to get out there, skate the world, and eventually become a grumpy old prick.

I still can't do 360 flips though, You little whippersnappers got me on that one.

I promise you that you won't regret it.  I look back to 1994-2003 (age 14-23) as being some of the best parts of my life because I was doing at least one or all of those things, either by chance or by choice.  Now I am 30 and I still leave the state at least once a month because of what the feeling of adventure has done for me.

It was progressive when it came out. But it was one part. And it was editted very poorly. And the kid who made it blew himself out in about 6 months and was done. And his style was never that great. Really, his career doesn't speak to me as legend status.
Also, biases and opinions are inseperable. My opinions are based upon my biases. They are subjective.
