you guys must have good luck finding clothes at thrift stores. to this day, I've only found one shirt that I liked. Everything is either too big or not my cup of tea.
this is where some tailoring comes in.
it doesn't take as much luck as it does persistence. Most of the time, you're right, there's nothing in there but a bunch of garbage, but you can't give up after the first or second time visiting a store. and it helps to live in a big city, cause they often have multiple locations to visit.if you're not down for the hunt, then stay out the woods.
Too big as in XL and larger. I wear mediums and if my girlfriend has to tailor anything larger than a large she'll get bitchy. She doesn't have a sewing machine, she does it all by hand. I can spend, easily, an hour in a thrift store...but we don't have any good ones here. The thrift store in town is flooded with old people junk and the massive Salvation Army store carries only garbage...unless you want furniture or books.
There are a few shirts I regret not purchasing. I used to live, literal right behind a Goodwill. There were probably 3-4 90's Simpson tank tops, decent condition. One was Bart skating. They were all XL, so I passed them up.
