Ignoring the sb Jordan 4 for a min I think this is about as tech as skateshoes are going to stay for a while. Whatever new cushion shit in a rubber cupsole. I prefer it like this as a midsole over the insole as the whole cushion style.
Kinda makes me think Reynolds was just done with vans either way

totally. When this shoe was first announced with the cushioned midsole, I was like, wait did Reynolds just say last week that Vans wasn't designing any cupsoles with midsole cushion? :chin-scratch emoji:

It's barely cushioned tbh. Thin like a 440 overall, kinda wild board feel but not thick feeling.

They brought the Staple back for a brief time a few years ago. That was one of the better shoes I ever skated. If these ones are the same, I would cop a few. And also the Telford colorway looks really nice.

lakai just has the worst colorways. every shoe looks like it's made for a kindergarten rave, with stupid neon laces and generally the weirdest choices for details and such. at the same time it's so boring, too. they could have made the models green with white laces, which might have looked good, instead we get their specialty, grey black shoes with bright laces and details that no one over 9 years old would wear.

Because their aesthetic is basically "low budget LA casual with classy inspo." and the little lace accent up top is easily transferred from a driver/moccasin type of shoe to a slip-on, which seems to check the box for them.

The heel-tabs are non-functional and I ruined them while trying to put on the pair. I have no idea how long the soles will last since I use them as chillers. Although the materials appear to be of better quality, the durability doesn’t seem great due to the thinness of the uppers. I paid $30-40 around NYE for the vulc loafers and have no interest in buying any other pairs  regardless of price.

This is about 1-month old news, but Vans revenue has apparently been falling significantly while other VF corp brands are doing alright. Revenue at Vans fell by 13% and is expected to drop by high-single-digit percentage rate in the year to March 31 2023, compared with the previous forecast of a mid-single-digit reduction. From an "apparel analyst".... "the brand has experienced a steady decline in popularity, unable to keep up with rapidly changing fashion trends and adapt its products to meet consumer demand."
