Not my cup of tea personally and I'm no shoe designer by any means but I think they look better on foot.

I will say if you want something simple whether it's a Pour-In G6 cupsole or just a regular cupsole between the Figgy G6, KSL G6, Gamma, Slip Cup we got you covered if you're not feeling the Phocus but if you like something a little bit more tech then give em a try.

I guess that’s all it takes: show someone skating well in them. The little line in the sole is crucial to break up the thicc.

The thick sole cup seems to be a trend these days, which is fine by me.  I’m just happy the “board feel” construction nonsense is going away. I prefer my feet not to hurt.

(Skate shop day OG-1’s are skatin’ pretty 👍 it’s weird getting excitement from others over shoes that are not dunks 😆 the other shoes I get stoke from is the Josl1n’s. People are like, “those are sick, what are they?”)

Thanks y’all. It’s been fun.

Mfs just really straight up ripped the cupsole design from the Adidas SC line and thought by slapping a generic upper on it no one would notice...  ::)

Not defending anyone… but have ya noticed how many dunk and AJ1 clones there have been through the last 20 years?

Skateboarding shoes is going to mimic the sellers. Nothing new.

at this point I'm convinced darkpools is either sponsored by soletech, has friends there, works for them, or has some ownership stake.

Dude, I design shoes for a living and believe me, I can spot a copycat when I see one, but this one hits closer to home cause I’ve seen the original one being designed next to me.
I’m not so bothered by rip-offs of already stablished classics like a Dunk or a Chuck Taylor, but when it’s taking from a contemporary silhouette and trying to pass it as innovative it bothers me a bit.
I somehow still have a higher consideration for Emerica as it was one of my favs as a kid so I hold them to higher standards than this lazy shit…

Agreed, as many of the "soletech simps" are even critical of this half assed idea of a shoe. Poster above criticizing soletech fans but ignores that soletech fans are criticizing Emerica as well. 2 braincell energy from Rafael on that post, tbh.

Soletech makes a LOT of great shoes, but this model is tarnishing that reputation because it just ain't it
[close]

Point me to the great shoes. Es is just shitty reissues no shops carry and no one seems to skate, Emerica has the same simple variants from one another that they've beaten to death and everything new is wack or bad quality, but I will admit that people really like Etnies and they're the least offensive.
[close]

If you're blind, just say so:

There are plenty bad NB#, Nike, Adidas, Vans, and Converse models but somehow they don't get shat on nearly as bad as Soletech? Confusing and unwarranted, to be honest.

Es:
Silo SC, Accel Slim Plus, Swift 1.5, and Quattro are all great shoes. Accel Slim is mid, but plenty of people like it. There are Accel OG fanboys, so that's it's own thing. I don't think they're good in their current iteration, personally.

You can harp that the reissues/re-master/reimagined classics are shitty, but I've skated a few of them and they're solid quality. Silo SC has some of the best flick I've experienced. Quattro is comfy and skates well (skating them right now)

Emerica:
Spanky G6, Wino G6 Slip Vulc, Wino G6 Slip Cup, KSL G6, Gamma G6, Figgy, Figgy G6, and Romero Laced are all solid shoes.  Romero being the weakest of all but still loved by many.
Reynolds G6 was a fantastic shoe and that G6 sole is one of the best on the market we got from Emerica It outperforms a majority of the big 3's cupsoles easily. You can't ignore that.  If you don't like that sole, just say that instead of passing th sole and all of Emerica off as garbage. You confuse preference with quality and it's annoying.
Most people skating Emerica or trying Emerica are not experiencing the one-off you had with the KSL. Emericas are largely well made and are not bad quality.

Etnies:
Marana Michelin, Joslin 1, Josl1n (remastered one), Joslin 2, Windrow Cup, and Windrow Vulc are all quality shoes. The Michelin cupsole is easily one of the best on the market alongside Emerica G6. Those soles last longer than any other brand's soles and offer good grip/reliable flick. Marana  & Joslin are both simple, understated workhorse shoes that perform well for their value.

You can express your taste on design elements in regards to aesthetic, sure.  When it comes to performance and overall appeal, Soletech is well liked, well made, and mostly pleasing on the eyes. If you can't see that about Soletech then you're intentionally ignoring/not looking at the gems they do produce

Dude this forum is full of people who have found the eS models you listed to be lacking and have tried them many times. You're just copying all the names you know. eS have many pros who are way too good for the tram and they don't bother rewarding them with pro shoes just poorly executed reissues.

My 2 pairs of winos are the worst quality shoes I've had since skating as an adult. The Spankys look nice and the rest you listed on  are the same basic shoe. 2 friends and a poster here had the eyestays on the new Spanky G6 come unstitched in the first week of the shoes life. They reported it as being pretty lackluster although cushioned.

Etnies I'll give you. People are generally pleased with them and they make shoes that last. Not exciting, but they do what they do well and I can respect that.

If the Phocus would have had a bigger marketing campaign behind it I feel the reactions would be different...look at the Globe shoe. Plus the white pair looks pretty nice imo

Unpopular opinion (maybe) : the Reynolds 3 was garbage. Stumpiest toe with stitching that ripped your toes to shreds and a sole that went bald on your first skate and seperated from the shoe on the third skate.

Emerica had some decent shoes after that tho with the Romero 2, situation, transist, Reynolds lights, Herman 2. I guess a lot of people liked the og laced

The forum is not full of people complaining about those es models, unless it's from a purist angle that they didn'tdo a 1:1. That angle is fair, but doesnt equate to the shoe being bad, just because they didn't do a full on 100% reissue. The SC sole is a good sole, pebble magnet or not, just like how the NB# 868 was.
It's been a mixed bag in reviews, just like with LRAB, just like with the Skate line Vans for example. A lot of people like those es models i listed, whether they're on Slap or not. I'm also counting real world examples where I see people skating them, not just Slap accounts of them. I won't disagree that Es is the weakest of the bunch here. They have a higher miss/hit ratio than the other 2.

Again, what has been largely seen beyond your and my anecdotes is  Emerica models are mostly well made, including the Wino G6 Slip on you tried. You're also gonna criticize that they're using a few different uppers on the same outsole (because the sole works) and then not keep that same energy towards the Big 3 + when they do that often, too? Make that make sense.

I'm just naming names?? I've been skating for almost 17 years and have skated 95% of the sole tech shoes I just listed. Sure, it's obvious that's what I skate but I wouldn't be skating it, nor saying what I have if the shoes didn't work. I have no interest in receiving boxes, have any ownership, or have any other bias beyond being a skater that's stoked on good shoes after trying hundreds of models over the years. If people don't like them because they didn't work for them, cool. To say they're all mostly poorly made is not factual, however. Same logic for anyone that tries a couple models from Vans, Cons, Nike, etc.

I know some people want me to shut the fuck up and stop derailing this thread, so I invariably will

Skating Gamma G6 now and the shape of the toe is a bit too pointy but they are very comfortable and still fit a wide foot nicely and seem to last very well. I got them for a really good price too.

In my opinion that Emerica shoe doesn’t look very good but not exactly horrible either. Just boring and not very stylish. It’s lame as fuck to copy from Adidas so blatantly though. I think Emerica has gone in a much worse direction since the Reynolds G6. That shoe was awesome although not my favorite looks wise but not too bad either. They had a bunch of nice cupsole models before that.

I can’t speak of the quality of Nike, Adidas or NB skate shoes as I’ve not tried them. Overall I prefer Sole Tech over Vans or Cons, which both have bagged out a bit too easy for me. I haven’t had any quality, durability, grip, boardfeel etc. issues with Sole Tech shoes.

I also have some nostalgia for both éS and Emerica and generally would like to avoid corpo stuff and big flashy logos so that plays a role in shaping my opinion for sure. Overall I’m liking Etnies most of the Sole Tech brands these days, which is wild to me.

Just wanted to to give my two cents and try to make it a bit chill and not so extreme. Have a nice day everyone.  :)

I’ve skated sneakers from every company. Cupsole and vulc soles. The core companies make an inferior quality product period. A 1010, dunk or half cab will last you as long as multiple pairs of the core guys offerings and usually always look better too…hard facts.

None of what’s being talked about has to do with upcoming shoes.

Fwiw I’ve not skated es or Etnies in a bit. Etnies Michelin cup sole slip was great. Emerica makes some of the best slip ons. Far better than vans in my opinion. The other emerica models have lasted as long as any other shoe. And they’re all made in sweat shops. I this comes down to what skater your dick riding at the moment. 105 is too much for a skate shoe. Same goes for a 1010. Shit is gonna get destroyed anyway. I’ve had vans fall apart and tear the first day out. Several times. To the point I won’t skate them. New balance are great the 440 sole wears too fast. My point is every company has its faults. It’s a sliding bar and not so black and white just grey. Or almost like people have preferences. But I think if we going quality or design choices we can go tit for tat all day. Vans nu school? The timberland half cab. Walker 2s etc Nike making shoes that look like they are for fucking golfers.

Skate shoes been over a $100 since the first éS Muska came out. That’s a long time to try to not see it’s been normalized already.

This exactly. I’ll pay over $100 for nice shoes. Hell my work boots are a little over $200 and that’s for work. But skate shoes that will look like shit with holes and rubber worn down. Not worth over $80. Imo

Also the musks a long time ago was like $100 but that’s not skate shoes. That’s A skate shoe.

haha these are like a mashup of so many different past shoes they've done, it's a confused teenager. someone could photoshop a different outsole on this and no toecap and it would be 80% better.
