I agree on Vans being a suburban shoe, but want to add that they have a few ubiquitous models that are like a NB 574, Jordan 1, Air Max, Saucony Jazz, etc. that literally anyone and everyone wears. That doesn't mean they aren't cringe for their collabs, but this isn't exactly new news. Even in high school 20 years ago almost every cohort was wearing either Authentics, Old Skools, etc. I remember when the song "... I got Vans on but they look like sneakers" by The Pack came out in 2007 you were seeing them everywhere and that was over 15 years ago.
The Vans stores make no sense to me. They don't get to choose what they carry and often have that weird skate section.
