Honestly if someone from Dime ever got Bret Hart's agent on the phone, they could make a collab that would create a Supreme-like line outside every skate shop in Canada. Between the colours, the trademark sunglasses, and all the wild skull/heart branding from his old merch and ring gear; Bret Hart and Dime are made for each other, and they don't even know it. Dime's marketing really nails the balance of over-the-top pageantry with a knowing wink to the audience about how silly it all is, which is perfect for a skate/wrestling collab (and also why all the previous skate/wrestling collabs that I can recall have missed the mark).

You have convinced me. That would be a brilliant collaboration.

Pretty bold move to make the most iconic colourway (Navy) of the XLT only as a Dime collab with the Dime logo on it. Could see the hardcore XLT enthusiasts being bummed about having no option but to have that on there.

Then again I never/would never fuck with the XLT so I guess I don't really care. But still an odd choice.

I’m not a huge vulc fan but those actually look really nice. I’d wear those as an everyday shoe in all honesty. I like that they’re starting to use a more subtle approach to branding on some of their models. I really hope that continues.

Jimmy is almost always skating black or white Riley’s or black manchesters. So it’s not surprising that his shoe is pretty simple. Most dudes like that wouldn’t suddenly decide their first shoe to be a head turner.

I agree, but you’d think you’d want to stand out somewhat to at least get noticed.    It’s such a bogstandard shoe.   Every company made this Surplus Store shoe a decade ago.   I think Antuan’s Supra pro model was exactly this design.

Also, basic does not mean it will sell. The Wilkins look like a toddler shoe. I’m really bummed on it

Always surprised Huf went the alt-Cons route it did.   I would have expected Huf to pursue a more sporty/tech Axion style shoe, but maybe that just wasn’t on trend enough

EDIT: My bad for derailing the thread and using bandwidth for my shoe nerdery tangent!

I also think Keith was savvy enough to see that they could make semi-timeless silhouettes, as well as popular (though dated) designs that sold well.

Those early Hufnagel 1 and 2.0 (I think) were definitely some sportier tech meets classic, but modern cupsole styles. I'll try to find a photo or two for reference.  More of those models would have been cooler (to me) over the route that they did go.

I also enjoyed the Soto from them visually but never owned a pair, sadly.

I had Sotos - the soles were bricks and the H on the side was positioned too close to the toe - my ollies were hitting the H instead of the suede, and the H was made of some kind of crappy fake leather that got ripped up really quickly.

And those were still my favourite Huf shoes to skate. And I was still mad that that venture capital firm chose to keep Lakai going instead of Huf footwear. Huf would probably make cool/interesting shoes now that the trend has shifted away from those extremely basic vulcs that dominated the mid 2010's. Whereas Lakai in 2023 is making the sound of a kid with a juice box continuing to suck on the straw after all the juice is gone.

I remember being at an agenda trade show and Huf was doing ok with shoes and he was talking with some retailers and he shook his head and said “wish we never got into footwear. Biggest mistake we made”
Toughest space to compete in and it’s only getting harder.
