Yes adidas sambas are working for the gorls right now with their vintage soccer jersey + dad jeans/jorts aesthetic.

I guess jorts are just kinda pointless, if it's hot enough to wear shorts just wear proper shorts, if you need to wear jeans just wear jeans.
Also wearers almost always have swamp ass/look like they shat themselves. (Apart from black/dark navy)

Anyway since everyone's talking about sambas/terrace type shoes

But yeah, if adidas brings back the Silas 1 they might save the brand   ::)

Sorry I didnt specify but I meant it might help adidas skateline and not the brand as a whole.

Low quality and corners were cut.
Multiple shops dropped Emerica because of their lack of proper communication and the delivery of a sub-par product, which was different to what was booked from the catalogs.
They have fixed the description in the newer catalogs, but the damage is still done and the shoe is still trash.

What were the shortcomings? Durability/quality, no insole or midsole, weird sizing? Those characteristics apply to some of my favorite shoes to skate (i.e. 440 high).

I believe what happened is specific aspects of the shoe and it's construction were described to shops in one way and released with major changes. I don't recall what it was exactly (I think it was described as full EVA foam), but as previously said it ruffled a lot of feathers. Retail is in the midst of declining sales across the board, so shops can't afford to make so many mistakes. I hope someone can fill us in more about a few things:
what exactly changed from the pre-release details to the released shoe?
were shops made aware of the changes prior to release and given the option to cancel their pre-order?
how many shops dropped emerica after this?
has any accountability been taken by soletech?

So basically your just speculating and hope someone who actually knows what they are talking about will confirm your guesses. Pictures of the new “MJ” shoe look pretty good. Obviously you’d have to check it out in person to make any real opinions on it.  I just need Emerica to keep making that slip on.

Yea it was advertised as a full EVA midsole, which was not the case upon arrival. Shops were not made aware of this, therefore were not able to cancel/modify their orders.
No one at sole tech has taken any responsibility aside from EmericaTM saying he will pass on the word and our emerica reps weren’t aware of the change until shops let them know. Meaning it was changed and no one was notified or thought to notify shops. Just bad business practices and not something we want to support.
I can only speak on the shop I work at, and I remember seeing someone on here saying their local also dropped Emerica, but I have no way of finding out how many shops followed suit.
But the overall quality of the shoe is also just lacking IMO.

This exact discussion has already been discussed in prior threads and posts by people with first-hand knowledge, I just couldn't remember/find the previous posts and I didn't want to say something wrong. So instead of saying something incorrect, I was asking someone else who previously posted to chime in to be completely accurate. That wasn't speculation, it's just repeating what someone else said. Personally, I've seen the shoe in-person and it's quality for the money is off.

Everyone compares the new ogs to the original MJ's but has anybody compared them to the ogs from 08ish? Would kinda make more sense if they were remakes of those shoes
So these reissues are the same as the 08ones, not the original ones..

You could have been the one to compare them but chose not to?

"The toe cap features triple stitching for extra skate durability, and the foot bed is made of a molded STI foam insole for extra comfort.  While the soles are not vulcanized, they do have a gum out sole for extra grip. Although Marc no longer rides for Emerica, this re-release is slated for early 2009, just in time to cash in on the hype Marc built with his epic 3 song video part in the latest Lakai ‘Fully Flared’ video. Available in sizes 5 – 14."

So no, they are also worse than the 08/09 version.

The new OG1s (I refuse to ever refer to them as MJs as they are an abomination in comparison) are complete and utter worthless trash.

Not tooling them with the P.U. midsole and referencing the 08 reissue instead of the true original MJ from the late 90s was a disservice to skateboarding as a whole and I'm glad emerica is hurting because of it. Everyone at emerica needs to be canned (with a severance package of course, im not heartless) and the brand needs to die. Once they are ready to start taking their position as one of the most important and iconic footwear brands in skateboarding seriously, and start actually investing in their product and designers, then they can come back.

They chose this life. It's their responsibility. I don't care that they are hurting financially. It's their own fault.

@EmericaTM Drop all the f*cking garbage, tasteless SKUs, hire a good designer, ditch the pseudo motorcycle brand aesthetic, ask your team to take a shower for once, and get the hell back in the game already. It's comical at this point.

Was thinking more compare as far as the quality, suede, shape etc that people have been complaining about. You'd need to have both shoes to do so and I have neither

Ahh that’s fair, I’m just super sour about the midsole thing still. The shape and quality are still way off for the price imo.
Golden Era Collector just did an ES muska video, would be nice if he got a series going comparing reissues to the OG’s and their different iterations.

While a lot of the recent reissues hop on a late 90s early 00s puffy/baggy trend, what they also capture is an era when skate shoes were unmistakably, uniquely made for the skateboarding world and not easily integrated into gym outfits, dinner dates, or the office. I think where a lot of the frustration comes from is this apparent situation where skate shoe companies seem to be unequipped to make something skateboarding had for itself 15-25 years ago and didn't compromise to the appeal of the general population. Just saying, these bitter criticisms of any minor shortcoming of a reissue (like no midsole) is probably more of a reaction to a pattern of defeat - a general sense of grief and frustration about the state of skate-centric skate shoes, than about that particular shoe or technical feature.

Gotta admit I felt like a moron when wearing my lynx og's to a funeral. I do think we have it pretty good nowadays when it comes to modern shoes. You could easily wear those new emerica jar jar binks shoes to the office.  :)

Agreed. Not sure if anyone's brought this up already, but has anyone actually tried the new muska shoes? With every reissue no matter the brand, there's always someone who will point out a logo being too small or the tongue being too big, regardless of how spot on the shoe may be. I feel like I haven't seen too many gripes about the muska other than price. Not a big soletech guy so I have nothing to go off of, but I'm curious how it skates.

Re: Post UPCOMING/RECENT shoe releases thread

I can't speak for anyone else, but a midsole is a particular technical feature that makes or breaks shoes for me. Practically any cupsole with a full length midsole, I will try on at a minimum and will likely buy if it fits me. If it has that egg crate bullshit instead of a midsole, I am not interested whatsoever. Maybe it isn't fair to judge a whole brand on one shoe, but the MJ reissue - a fundamentally flawed shoe that seems to now be collecting dust on the clearance rack of practically every shop that ordered it, and was apparently so bad that shops are mad about it - does not suggest positive things about the current direction of Emerica.
