Another instagram for another new shoe company.  Pretty basic, but also not bad looking.

Just because I skated multiple pair of the pepper pro imma disagree with you, completely different paneling, the stripe kinda reminds me of them though, the pepper reminded me of a thinned out old school with a better more form fitting toe, loved that shoe, if I were to compare these to a huf shoe it’d prolly be the ramondetta pro without the toe cap

At first I thought DVS Nica, although it was a slim cup, but with a one piece vamp.

But then again - it's Joslin Vulc, down to the mid-lateral panel stitching and an extended vulc wrap to serve as a heel counter.

Russian/ Chinese AliExpress brand
They kind of remind me of Sneaux or whatever that Walmart brand was that a bunch of non-skateboarders had around 2008.

These may be good for low-income people in Asia and Europe, but people in the US are better off buying clearance shoes from skate shops, or thrifting, due to the tariffs.

I know it’s just January but if this thread is any indication for what’s to come then 2026 isn’t looking too good for skate shoes

Yeah, I didn’t realize it until I saw the Kingswell photos. It’s one thing to have metallic details for people skating at night, but making the majority of the uppers metallic is gross.

Why is Nike/Converse leaning into the metallic thing?? Anyone know of other companies doing this right now?

I wonder if this isn’t meant to be metallic but have more of a soccer boot shine without using those materials…

I think different supporting colors might have made it work better.   I had a shiny blue pair of adidas predators in the mid 00s that I loved

Yeah, I really dig all of the boot silhouettes and if these had just been standard (not shiny) blue leather with suede toe cap, etc. it could be really nice. Maybe drop the other primary colors, too, and call it a Sesame Street capsule or something. Predators go for reals.

New model from Etnies. It says die-cut EVA midsole. What does that mean? But sounds good to me and looks fine. And it seems to me, that the former Joslin shoe which was renamed Wallen isn't in production anymore.

The midsole is a piece of EVA foam that has been cut to size and shape and sewn/glued inside the shoe. The Sal 23 reissue was constructed this way as well. This info in the description is useful because it tells us that the shoe has a foam midsole (not crating or a big thick insole), and what type of foam they used.

Ah thanks man. So that EVA foam is certainly better as the usual eggcrate? Although the Asics Japan also seems to use eggcrate and that shoe is fine. Maybe some differences in eggcrate across all brands?

eggcrates are fine, people get very neurotic about midsoles. I actually find them problematic lol every shoe I’ve skated that had a midsole gave me what I can only describe as plantar fasciitis (never been diagnosed) and extremely bad Achilles pain. I understand that midsoles have a function but maybe it’s a tool that should be used sparingly

I've found that it causes me to develop a corn on the bottom of my foot on the pinky toe side. I switched to a shoe without it and my foot sits flatter and the pain seems to subside.

Glad you worked that out, I also had a pinky toe issue that has subsided since switching it up. There’s definitely something to the foot sitting as flat as possible that just works for me. I can’t skate shoes with a sole like the OG busenitz either.

Nah it's different. the 440 sole is thinner, panels hit in different spots and it's stitched on

I think it's more of a personal preference than one being objectively better or worse. And there's room for variance of feel/structure within the categories that come from harder/softer rubber compounds, thicker or thinner soles, etc. I strongly prefer foam, but I've had some eggcrate shoes that worked for me and foam midsole shoes that didn't. I think the eggcrate sole is cheaper/easier to make, so that's likely why manufacturers seem to prefer it.
