Cypress Hill are actually pretty underrated imho, I really like some of their later albums like temples of boom.

The beat for temple of boom is still my favorite…illusions is up there for me too. I forget the name of that mtv show with that kid in his attic , but cypress hill came on one episode and that’s when I heard illusions for the first time

I think it’s a bit of a stretch to call Cypress Hill underrated considering their overall success and popularity but Temples Of Boom is definitely their best album, imo too.

I didn't mean from their commercial success, because yeah they were huge, BUT I feel that within hip hop circles they get left out of the conversation a lot due to said commercial success...

I think it is because they went all in with the ridiculous weed culture of the time. The first concert I went to was Rage Against The Machine and Cypress Hill at Rutgers University. This was in 94’ and the show was awesome. When I saw them again at Smokin’ Grooves in 98’ the crowd was no longer hip hop heads. They basically created a Lollapalooza for rap and weed.

I saw Rage and Cypress at my college around that time too so it was probably the same tour. Seen both a ton of times before and after. I think Cypress gets props for their first three albums and that’s already pretty impressive for a career. They went downhill from there with a few sporadic gems and like mentioned, went too deep into the weed. No matter how much one loves weed, they didn’t move the needle any longer. From what I’ve seen, they can still kill it when they really try but nothing really equaling or topping those first three albums. So if anything, I think they are one of the more fairly rated groups in hiphop.

Anybody got good Japanese hiphop recommendations? Saw Shakkazombie already in this thread. Also already a fan of Soul Scream, Buddha Brand, Lamp Eye and Phar the Dopest. Any deeper cuts would be appreciated.
