Reese Barton's Welcome to iPath vid reminded me how much I enjoy skateboarding set to reggae. Then I started pondering reggae becoming trendy in skateboarding and immediately cringed imagining how quickly it'd devolve into a legion of Plan B flow kids wearing checkerboard patterns, skating to so-Cal punk bands with horn sections.

Then I pondered a legion of iPath kids skating to classic reggae and, while much easier on my ears, is still pretty cringe.

@GnarAlarm I can't give the first usage of tre flip or how exactly it grew in popularity, but in my mind it's linked to early 90s rap, wherein the years were consistently referred to as nine deuce, nine tre, nine quad, nine nickel, and so on. Lots of crossover in that era's slang, and still to this day.

Maybe, but I dunno.
My most active and obsessed years of skating were from around 92 until about 2001 and I'm 100% sure I never heard "tre flip" in those years. But I was in midwest USA so maybe it just hadn't hit us yet.

I've been wondering this for years but have never said anything to anyone.
My entire youth everyone said "360 flip", maybe the occasional "3 flip", then I took an extended hiatus from skating and when I came back everyone, literally everyone, even the oldest of old heads, had fully adopted the term "tre flip".
It almost felt like some kind of alternate reality Mandela effect shit, but I just said fuck it and rolled with it without giving it much thought.

Seriously though, I wasn't around when it started. When did it start?
Who started it or where did it start?
How did it spread so quickly and thoroughly?

tres = 3 in spanish
tre flip
3 flip

Yeah man I understand the etymology of it, I wasn't asking what "tre" means.

Maybe I'll write in and see if the Bunt boys know.

I was randomly watching a part on Thrasher of this dude I used to know when I was younger. Watching it I realized how mediocre at best the part was. Had some ugly ass tricks and the dudes style is wack. Im thinking, how is someone willing to film and edit a part and think "Yeah this is good enough to go on the Trasher website?" Granted it wasnt a part that thrasher did themselves but something that was submitted but still who is in charge of quality control for when videos are posted on the site.

That was incredibly delightful to read.

Please do that and report back.

Life is too short. Go get those boots.

I would be happier, save money, and save time if I didn't look at upcoming releases of gear. Half of what I think I want doesn't make it to my local. Even though I am supporting other people's locals, I have an excess of decks that I don't want. Looking for the perfect shape is a foolish, and I should just stick to having a Beamer, Zip Zinger, 8.38" Manderson, Huffer, and one 8.75"-9.0" AH in my rotation of boards.

What is the weakest track on Appetite? This is an incredibly hard choice for me as I believe it’s the only perfect popular hard rock album of the late 80s.

Steven Adler’s drums yo. Every time I think this is the weakest track I’m pulled back to the drums and think nah it’s gotta be a different one.

The only issue I can think of on the album besides Axle’s lyrical content occurs on Think about you. Every other chorus they have this loud ass clean Guitar over the top that is way too loud. .

What do yall think

I'm pretty sure it's Think About You - the chorus sounds great, the verses are kind of so-so. You're quite right though, it's a really tough choice - what an album! I still remember so clearly the afternoon I bought it.

I asked Ted Barrow back in the feedback days. He also suggested it stemmed from west coast rap. I can't say tre flip - I feel like an idiot. Will always be a 360 flip to me.

I’m having a hesh vs fresh identity crisis. Well I guess I just wish I was more hesh honestly.

All day I been freaking out cause i think im getting uglier working overnight and not getting good sleep. If I was hesh I wouldn’t care.

Im not nessicarly fresh either but I do care about my outfits way too much and my pants are way too big. I still skate chunky shoes.

Idk man I just wanna skate pools and slap curbs.  I don’t drink beer but I have been getting back into cigs lately. My shirt is always off. I don’t have any tech tricks. I don’t know what to do.

Haha I have this identity crisis every couple of years. I went full on into the baggy pants and big shoes and now I'm scaling it back again to relaxed fit and slimmer stuff. It seemed a little much for me but I still mix some of my outfits just to see how I feel. I have no pop, so I'm not fresh, I don't skate big handrails, so I'm not hesh. I just go by feel and comfort now.

But left this:

My mind is truly confused by the lack of knowledge in this. I’m tempted to start skating that curb just as a fuck you.
