The only reason this happened is because they make oversized issues. It makes it quite difficult to read as you poop.

I'm desensitized to these things after slap went out of print, which I almost cried over. I don't think kids are that passionate about mags nowadays

Which is ridiculous because Lowcard and focus put out some great content. As does Thrasher (usually)

I damn near cried about slap as well. No more woodshop or my favorite, the reason why.

Also, thought it was funny how skateboarder spun the whole thing... something like, "it's an exciting time, we won't be putting out issues, but will have an online presence, which is even better. The best part is we will send you Surfer magazine until your subscription is up!"

I enjoyed the direction that they went ever since they went bimonthly with the large format. I think the first issue came to me on new years 2011, most hung over in my whole life, but reading the big article on Video Days.

whatever happened to the Big Brother resurrection that was supposedly in the works a few years ago? I know Tremaine bought the rights back from Larry Flynt or whatever with the intention of somehow re-starting it. That was like more than 4 years ago, though . . . . .

It always infuriates me how things like this happen to the best ie. slap, big brother but bullshit like transworld keeps in circulation. i mean transworld could be way worse but its nothing like the good shit. R.I.P. skateboarder, i used to enjoy stealing you from my high school library

Damn. I am going to miss this magazine. I always felt they had some of the better editorial content. Their writing was always top notch by comparison, had great tour articles and they gave more coverage to less mainstream people. I will agree though, the size was problematic on the john.

Looked through a Focus and a Concrete mag the other day and they were really sick. i guess TWS Thrasher and The Skateboardmag have more professional photographers but i liked what i saw for sure. The interviews were pretty interesting too.

I wonder if Aaron Smith will continue to work for them, or if he will try to work for a mag that actually prints issues

Transworld's about 1/3 as many pages compared to 2000. Print might not be dead but it's definitely on the ropes.

Im pretty bummed about this. I tried contacting the skateboard mag for an European subscription, but they doesnt have an online way of ordering it. They then said i could email my creditcard Info and they would start the subscription.. But.. That seems kinda sketchy right? Or is it just me? I really want to support a mag though!

As much as we all loathe this news, it's for the better.
Skateboarder is simply trying to grab the attention span of all the kids checking the Berrics, HellaClips and so forth.
At the end of the day, they're being competitive and smart while remaining a reliable source for original content.
Expect a ton of shit from them in 2013, it's gonna be heavy.

I still do enjoy the aspect of sitting on the can, taking a poop and reading some great articles/interviews but this bitch named the internet is a strong hoe.

I think the high end/high price magazines like Dank and 43 (and Skateboarder in the nineties) have got a chance but all the big monthlies must be struggling..

They are all clearly terrified of saying anything that might piss off advertisers.

I miss that commentary feature slap ran for a year or so after going digital. It was pros watching their parts and giving sort of a play by play commentary.

I agree with all ya's that are feeling a Big Brother comeback. I started this zine in the piss drenched silhouette of it's image. It's named Step Dad. Check out an online version at the link below. This issue has articles about rehab in Vermont, working in a porn shop in Boston and doing fed time in upstate New York. There are skate pics, too.
