Decided to go slightly smaller, wanted white wheels anyway and didn’t wanna wait for those lance mountains

Yooo these radial fulls are mad wide lol!!! Those aren’t even small classics, they’re 55mm!!

This is gonna be sick, the 55mm classics going on my thunder 148, the 58mm radial going independent 149 std

Yeah the Radial Full wheels are BIG for sure!

I have the 54 mm versions on an 8.75 with 159s and they feel nice, well balanced for the truck width seeing as I am usually on 149s, but seeing some of the even bigger ones on smaller trucks is crazy looking.

Yesterday I skated 99 radials 53 for the first time and I can't express how much I love them and how good the work for me.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

I'd love to have more options in 55mm wheels. 54s often become too small for me too quickly, and 56 can feel bulky when new. 55 is a nice goldilocks zone.

i wanted a really wide 54mm and the local only had 101a ... so i figured 55 classic will become that fairly quickly + even a touch wider  8)

Depends on what shape you want, as some like Classic, OG Classic, Tablet, Lock Ins and Lock In Fulls have 55 mm as a standard size / team graphic, so they should be available almost any time, dependent on shop supply more than anything.

I think 55 are a more common "pro one off" or used for special editions for some shapes, like Radial, Conical Full and Radial Full, so I guess if you see any of those that you like, stock up while you can, as they are a little more limited in that regard.

That is pretty much any / all shapes that are currently available now, some you can sort of get away with, eg Conical in 56 mm works fairly well like a Conical Full 54 mm wheel only taller.  Others are such a small additional width, whereas some step up a lot more, so I guess checking to see how wide you like your wheels and go from there.

Finding something around 34 to 35 mm is good for me, any wider and they are more a bigger board wheel or a specialty wheel, more so than a daily driver, but I know other people prefer wheels under 33 mm in width, which limits size or shape options.

Examples right now the Rowan in 55 mm in Radial Full, then the newer Grant wheel in 55.5 mm in Radials, but even a while back, the Andrew Allen 55 mm Conical Full wheels were the same width as the 56 mm wheels, so a 54 mm Conical Full works better in that regard.

What I'd love the most is a 55mm 93 Radial, but as they're not available, I went for a 56mm and will probably enjoy it a whole lot worn down.

easy slider wears down pretty quick im finding so you will be at 55mm in no time

not the last limosine video, but the one before that, that french guy (noah mathieu?) does a whole shit load of smith grinds through the curved bench in paris and his wheels look so massive and slidey, that was what i wanted, the most lock in and stability possible. i dont think I am too worried about wheelbite either, not gonna put risers on, but i have em if i need em. i kinda WANT them to wheelbite faster so it will feel more like a DLX truck pinch on a crook (using indy std). these wheels are gonna look hilarious when they are worn down. im thinking they will last ages as there is just so much meat to them.

53 and 55 wheels get no love, plus side is they're often on sale.

You really worry about  +/- 1mm size difference in your wheels? I personally feel like it makes no noticeable effect to my skating vs if I go from say 55 to 60mm. That 1mm is gonna wear down super fast.

i agree i cant worry about 1mm.
but i went up 5 or 6mm before a trip a while ago and the whole trip i was bummed i didnt have my old wheels with me.. took me almost the whole trip to get used to em.

i was looking for some connical Lil Smokies 50mm but i managed to score 2 sets of used 52mm (probably 51ish now) for cheaper than lil smokies are.

speaking of small wheels, you guys heard about those Lil Beatdowns 43mm wheels. that go for full retail price unlike Lil Smokies. i cant imagine paying 75 euro for 43mm wheels. cant imagine that selling so well.

That's more noticeable jump and makes sense you need some time to get used to it. Also, crazy that those small wheels cost the same as more regular sized wheels.

Well it’s not so much you notice the 1mm it’s just very close to the size you like but in addition lasts little longer

Doesn't everyone already have a set of lil smokies?

54mm Conical Full worn down:

51mm classic worn down

Can see the difference in how a conical full wears down vs. a classic. up next to a 72mm wheel

Up next to some worn down Dragon Wheels, probably around 52mm~

Originally posted in Thunder thread and Wheels thread, but will add here as well, just because they are Formula Four wheels:

https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=118215.msg4215342#msg4215342

I saw this the other day, with the new Spitfire Lil Beatdowns 43 mm wheels and an original "Napping Negro" deck.

The thing was strictly to look at only, but it was amazing to see.

* Added the second pic to show the height (and the small wheels / super flat deck)

https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=82118.msg4214609#msg4214609

* Also just machined down a set of 52 mm Classics that were maybe 48 or so to make some Lil Beatdowns that come in around 43 mm in diameter, quite laughable really, but I also could not justify paying money for any wheel of smaller size when I can have a go at making some from old wheels, sort of like Lil Smokies in a DIY environment.

Pic beside a set of similar 52 mm Classics now sub 50 mm worn down wheels for reference.

Until I actually saw them on a board, it is hard to really comprehend the size of them, or how small they really are.

I don't know if they were a direct throwback graphic, or more so just the shape, but almost everyone back in the early 90s era, especially 1992 seemed to have those super small wheels, although there were a lot of people still riding older (bigger) wheels too if you weren't one of the people getting all the new and fresh gear.  I never had wheels that small from new, buying bigger and wearing them down over time, but seeing the catalogs with 40 mm ranges, as well as some 38 or so wheels too, it was nuts.

Just searched Andy Roy Speed Freaks as I seemed to recall that was around the time, with this raw footage video coming up.  I only saw the first couple of minutes of it, but they sure did have those super small size wheels on their boards, with what looked like a Huffer shape deck among other things.  The thing is 40 mins long and I have never seen that footage before, so I don't know if I will watch much of it, but it was interesting to see, once I got past the first gap ollie.

the main way i can tell is how ass everyone is at that skatepark  ;D andy is like way better than everyone else and he is really not even that good (by todays standards). but you can tell he had a lot of passion.
i am kind of shocked they are able to slide so well - this is probably another reason they liked those tiny ass wheels back then. i noticed i never needed to wax shit when i was on them things. indys keep the wheels pretty far away from ledge too so i think you could get pure wood on a noseslide.

Andy's a style guy. He's pretty damn good. Especially atvert. I was stoked to see him pumping around on Tony's ramp few years back. That fool is 100% the real deal.

You didn't have to be crazy good at street yet. This is the beginning of the Solomon era. He in my opinion was the stand out guy eventually. Before Guy

Would it be safe to say the 93s wear down faster than the 99s and such? I’m sure it’s faster but is it a LOT faster? My friend’s been skating the 54s and within like 3 weeks they looked like they were 52s or less
