i want the entire set. this one is even better than the last series, which was also amazing.
i imagine that Karim 97a is old formula then? or did those make it to the mould before eisenhower SEAL team corporate espionage takeover?

I think they would be the original 97, not the reformulated versions.

Can't even remember what they showed on the pre book for them, but everything else in the pre book options for the "soft sliders" or "reformulated" versions never came out, so I would think they are originals.

* Looked it up, no other info, just 97 duro on that listing.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

in less than 24 hrs I got over 100 likes on my IG comment about how good that graphic is, at this point they'd be leaving money on the table if they didn't make em with the wheels

old one still good, i kinda just prefer 99a for the type of skating i do i guess if i have to choose between those 2. when you do 99a on a radial full it feels almost too slippery sometimes when you skate street and go really fast, so I can see why some people prefer the 97a even if its just the old formula. if you are down to just wax a lot its kinda best of both worlds maybe, and then it also has the good sound still which the new formula does dampen the sound a decent amount.

Hey was thinking about the 97s but I hate the sound of soft wheels (that soggy board sound). Which ones sound dampened the new ones or the old ones?

the new ones are the quiet ones. the old ones are loud. yeah that is one of the main reasons got me switching back to 99a today

so after just 1 session of going back to 99a, 60mm radial full wheels, some observations:

the 58mm radial full super super old stock i got seemed very slippery - maybe cause of age, maybe cause of formula discrepancy? its possible the older 99a felt more slick

my experience with classic wheels being "more grippy" than radial fulls - especially off the hop - seems to remain the same  - even though this doesnt make any sense

they also still seem a lot faster

the classics i have received recently are all newer stock and everything felt equally sticky compared to the radial fulls. and even dipping between old 97 duro too like the red T funk wheel for example, that actually feels pretty comparable to my new stock 99a classic when the tread is skinny. once they wear down - they all feel kinda the same though.

idk just a weird observation -it all seems to equal out in the end and i was kinda tripping that i wasnt using classics but i dont tihnk it actually matters that much for my skating at the end of the day cause i like to run my wheels so long you are really only gonna get that "classic " benefit for a short time of the life of the wheel int he grand scheme

gave away my 97a pedros to my homey who was on god damn primitive wheels and he was like "bro we are back in the booth" he was skating great. i am glad they foudn a new home. copped some new andale swiss to go in my 60 mm radial fulls, landed all my flat ground shit pretty free even with the gigantic wheels, had some beers, life is good  8)

Thinner contact patch can be grippier depending on terrain. I always assumed wider wheels would grip better but its more to do with how quick or slow a wheels will release and catch again.

ahhhh yes i forgot about that. it does seem on the skatepark the skinnier wheel is actually a lot faster and slidier. i remember coming to terms with this recently and so quickly forgot. i dont go to parks that often but i skate a lot of really good ground that just isnt skatepark ground.

i think just all in all i realized i dont need the classic shape, i dont need a small wheel, i dont need a soft slider. i probbaly dont need grip that bad either, i could probably justify doing 101a 60mm classic which my shop has. if no one buys it i am def gonna cop it.

.

The really wide Lock In Full wheels were super slippery when I tried them.  I thought it was just me, but a few other people had also said they were very slippery too, so it could be more the certain batch or whatever of wheels more than anything else.

I know we had a conversation about this previously too, but I used to always feel like wider had more grip, as per lots of wheels I had, but now I can't easily say that wider are more grippy and skinny are more slippery after some of these, which also adds up for other people too.

Also the interesting point someone brought up is that smaller batches are easier to keep the mix consistent, whereas larger batches often go a little funny if the mix isn't consistent right the way through the urethane.  Thanks Dave for that one.

Any which way, I find if I am riding a few sets of softer wheels for the most part or more than a few sessions, then any harder wheel is really going to be quite jarring at first again, but then I get used to them again and the softer ones often feel too grippy or sluggish, so it really is down to what you get used to, maybe more than anything else.

I actually couldnt stand the sound of my skateboard at the skatepark more than anything on the softer wheel. its just too quiet, and my bearings also were not 100% and my wife was like "Why does your board sound like garbage". now we are back to the loudness and it just feels really good all around. I put so much effort into making this setup perfect I couldnt stand having part of the setup feeling shitty. i put the Andale Swiss in there.

I think they went with the Andrew Wilson graphic on a hoodie and tee for this drop.

Even though I don’t need wheels, I’m picking up a set of those Karim RFs.

93a rumor update: they're trying to source a new manufacturer/possibly tweaking the formula with a hope of another production run coming by springtime. Don't hold your breath but I'm gonna grab as many as I can afford if it comes to fruition

I be almost dying trying to four wheel slide. Do pals think that 99s also contain the missing magic spooge that’s in 93s? Cuz I feel like something’s different.

I guess some of the lil' beatdowns in 43 are still out there. Would be cool if they had made those in 101 and not 99 tho but whatever

Just set up an old set and put bearings in a brand new set. Should be OK until then...

i actually just gave my pedro 97a away to my friend cause i wanted to go back to 99a. he was riding the worst wheels ever - primitive wheels. I think he is enjoying them so far :)  i will definitely buy another set of the new formula but i have tons of wheels to keep me going until then

Yeah I need another run of 97s. I like my 99s ok. There sick but I think that the 97a f4 is the goat wheel. As soon as I can I’m copping a 58-60

Just flat spotted some 99a classics beyond anything I want to skate until it rounds off again... Complete user error. Landed sideways into a unintentional power slide on a grippy surface. But it did make me think its been so long since I have had a significant flat spot.....pre F4 I'd get them pretty frequently even with SPFs and STFs I was on.

If anyone wants to make a key chain out of them LMK... jk..

F4 seem pretty easy to round out again cause they wear down really fast compared to bones (I think? I really should run another set to compare. one of the hardest things to really keep track of)
