In your recent interview in Thrasher you said
"My vision of skateboarding is something that unites people from various cultures. I don't think the big business aspect will last. it never does. If skateboarders can find a way to break ties with the capitalist model, I think we can unify and influence the world on a deeper level. That's my dream."
Most pros never talk about big picture things - ideas, politics, etc . . . It's rad that you aren't assuming that skaters are stupid.
How should skaters relate to pro skaters? Does the whole celebrity worship thing get creepy?
What are the things in skateboarding that prevents us from uniting with people in other cultures?
Is it insane that people are seriously discussing if females should be allowed to skate?
How can we challenge the sexism in skateboarding culture?
Why do so many skaters say "faggot" so much? Why are homophobic slurs still acceptable in skateboarding culture?
Does social justice have a place in skateboard culture?
Or is the rebellion of skaters limited to tough guy posturing and trying to be offensive while fetishizing products?
What problems are there with capitalism? How does capitalism fuck with what we love about skateboarding?
What examples of skaters (or other people) breaking with capitalist models have you seen that we should look towards?
