Spanky was never better than Herman. People just liked him more so he got hyped more and went pro first. I remember being puzzled as to why Spanky was pushed so much harder than Herman when they were new jacks and downright pissed when he went pro first.

I think the This Is Skateboarding era Spanky was leagues ahead of Herman. He had a much deeper bag of tricks and was doing shit on a different level at the time. But then shortly after that Herman got on another level and Spanky has been chilling for the most part.

This. Tampa am and this is skateboarding spanky was doing shit at a higher level than herman for sure. Baker 3 swings around and Herman has that Herman style. I would say that Spanky though "pushed" skateboarding in a more creative direction though.

peter ramondetta on monster energy drink ad northeast corner 2 o'clock destroyed my focus

i had little to say

the last time i saw braydon was when after he was in custody at jfk for refusing to wear shoes. wow, really interesting man.

the heyl ideology is comical. 'dropped'? he was never 'pro' but in a brief, stupid publicity gimmick, for aspiring drug addicts.

lenoce is OG, of course, but no one at the skate shop at this second gives a fuck about lenoce. the people who care about lenoce - including myself - are not buying his product. whether he's off or they're all off or what, is anything of value really lost?

i wish i can just give my favorite pros a extra 100 bucks a month just to drop footage and stay in the game.  Sometimes its not the consumers fault for the boards not selling its the shops fault too as well as the company.  The shop gets a catalog looks at the sizes and the name. reynolds boards in a 8.25 8.3 then you see  lenoce or whatever pro(just an example) in 7.8.  The 8.25 is going to sell immediately not only because of size but also name so the shop orders that board and passes on the lenoce board because of size and if it could sell off the name alone and along side reynolds to a kid is a tuff sell anyways. then the only board you see is reynolds board in the shops which then turns into (whatever pro) not selling product.  Then eventually whatever pro wasnt selling gets the boot .  Maybe companies set up people to fail? just my thoughts on that.

Yes! value is lost. Hes a big part of what is widely known as the "baker aesthetic". With guys like dee and riley on, baker is quickly turning into blind. Maybe braydon is becoming housebroken and hes losing his edge a little bit but im sure he provides intangibles.

Lenoce is Killing and going to demos, a little more advertising would probably go a long way for him.

Good post and probably a thought for a different thread entirely. I don't want to derail this thread but I've often wondered how (and why) sizes get arbitrarily assigned to pro boards from one series to the next and how it effects pro's sales for the positive and negative.

Companies obviously know which of their sizes/shapes are selling best. I'll use Habitat as an example since they are the majority of the boards I buy (probably 6 out of every 10 I ride)...I'd buy a Silas board every single series if they were 8.25. But the sizes are all over the place from one run to the next. Gall seems to be the only rider with the same size (8.5) every series. Anyway, point being I like to back certain pros but no chance I am buying something 8 or under.

How the fuck does putting Dee and Riley on, two really good kids who clearly vibe well with the baker team, equate to turning into a skateboarding farm league? Just because you don't like someone on the team doesn't mean the entire venture is over. In fact, I'd say that despite these drops, baker is one of the better examples of maintaining their original image and feel over however long they've been around

Heyl - don't care. I'm sure he's making his little shake junt monies.

Braydon - would you like fries with that bat face.

Lenoce - nooooooo!! Baker OG. Might not be the most mind blowing skater but he shouldn't get dropped.

You gotta remember that vid is 10 years old. That means that all these skate kids aged 14-18 would have been 4-8 years old when it came out. Wow that makes me feel old haha. So if they havent taken the initiative to go back and look at the history of skating and sakte vids then they would have no idea about it.

Yeah, it's easy to forget just how long ago 2003 was. Fuck

I've had an idea to gather all the local park kids in my small town and host some type of 'history 101' skate video type of night every now and then, (I live in a small town that has no premiers, good shops or park for that matter). some of the locals at my park had never even heard of 'this is skateboarding' around the time 'stay gold' came out, I had to school some of em. it felt pretty rad to do this although it's pretty easy to be weirded out by hanging out with a bunch of 13-17 year olds. I remember freaking out by some kid saying he'd never seen 'YEAH RIGHT!'. mind blown.

Haha, I'm 34 years old and have been skating since 1989 so I'm not really a skate kid. I never saw that vid cause after living in skate houses with 500 videos and no cable TV for years, I got burnt out on watching them around 2000. If I need some pre-sesh stoke I go to Modus Operandi, Video Days, or Streets of Fire depending on what terrain I want to go skate.

You haven't watched videos since 2000 but yet you threw in a random shitty opinion on spanky (who's output was mostly in the 2000's)? you are way too cool for human life, rohnny jad.

Just so you know, Mrs. Brown, every time you kook me and reply to one of my posts just to say it's not funny you make my day. I'm glad I'm able to give your life some purpose.

What the fuck is wrong with some of you?  I'm guessing some of us didn't watch Bake and Destroy apparently because all the new blood is sick.  Riley has put out like five video parts in the last year, and as for Cyril, sick style and he skates some seriously big shit.  I still don't have an opinion on the ostrich kid, but he's not too shabby, his part was good to watch because it wasn't just the same shit over and over again
