I was actually hyped on Braydon's Bake and Destroy footage.

You sit here and tell me with a straight face you weren't smiling after the manual late back foot flip

Went to a really lame Baker/Deathwish demo the other day, and although I used to really hate on both, I've gotta say I've had a change of heart about Shane Heyl and Lizard King. Both seemed like genuinely nice dudes who were pretty good with the kids and fans (if that means anything). Shane didn't skate as he can only skate ledges but Lizard was one of three riders (with Reynolds and Greco) who even remotely gave a shit. Yeah I know it's a lame ass demo and doesn't mean shit, but still took notice.

Lenoce is OG Baker. He can't be cut. Ever. Glad to see all the Lenoce love.

But yeah, Heyl has no business being pro. Nor does TK.

I believe it. Who here has ever bought a Heyl, Lenoce or Szafranski board?

I have no evidence to prove that any of this is actually happening, but I definitely did notice that their normal constantly-updated social media pages haven't been updated in a week, something is definitely going on in the bakerboys camp...

aha finally someone said it. & I'd never bring this up if the topic wasn't baker team cuts.

Why is every clip I ever see from TK have the words "warm-up" in it, how is it possible to warm up when your not putting out parts, and producing little to no web content.

I know a lot people are siked on him and the dudes talented, but it's kinda sad to see the same tricks from him over and over again from someone who got their career from being "next level" like three year into skating.

Dude seems to have plateaued out IMO, feel free to prove me wrong maybe I just have missed his stuff in mags or whatever. That baker trash compactor edit was the first I saw from him in a while.

He's getting a pro paycheck (?), don't fake the funk and pretend to be caught up with rapping when you're getting paid to skateboard. Would fit well on ice cream (if that's even a board company?).

[close]

tk is good and compared to all the other older baker boys he started skating way late. But I understand why people don't like him
[close]

that makes him good?
[close]

Well he's not bad. He isn't top notch I'm not a huge tk fan myself but he gets better each part he puts out and always has a good amount of footage. There Are pros that do a lot less than he does and have been skating since the early 90s
[close]

I don't think this is a case of people not wanting to shit-talk TK...more like a case of people forgetting he even exists. And if this is just about "personal progress" then Beagle deserves at least as much credit as TK, right?

And before someone brings up marketability, is he even relevant to today's "kids"? Maybe this all seems a little harsh, but if Lenoce and Braydon actually did get the boot and Kennedy didn't, that would be kind of odd.
[close]

Kennedy is super marketable and relevant if you want to take it to those levels.  always super nice to kids, that ice cream colorful shit still kept his "urban" appeal, His supra shit flies of the shelf with the fashion world still rocking the kicks, Fly Society is in all of the mall stores, His board graphics are actually funny and on point, and regardless of the difficultly/repetitive-ness of his tricks he gets his healthy amount of coverage ads and was in street league video games tv show you name it. relevant in mainstream skateboarding is almost a understatement at this point. etc. side note though i found this pretty gnarly.  anyone whos been here knows the danger in this spot.

[close]
damn thats probably the best trick ive seen at the spot, he needs to put out more footage tho

If that's the rail I think it is (the one Lutheran back 5050d in Brainwash). Then I believe Taylor Smith back lipped it in WTF. Also, I'm pretty sure that Stacy Lowery crooked and front tailed it in Guarte... which seems insane. Especially since that vid was several years back.
Going into to business with Vallely is the skateboarding equivalent of starting a land war in Asia, just don't.

Spanky was never better than Herman. People just liked him more so he got hyped more and went pro first. I remember being puzzled as to why Spanky was pushed so much harder than Herman when they were new jacks and downright pissed when he went pro first.

I think the This Is Skateboarding era Spanky was leagues ahead of Herman. He had a much deeper bag of tricks and was doing shit on a different level at the time. But then shortly after that Herman got on another level and Spanky has been chilling for the most part.

they both came up around the same time.  herman was with baker from the beginning.  Evan Terry and Knox got him on. around that same time spanky was just getting on city stars after being on world flow

So its better to have the company go bankrupt so everybody loses their jobs ?  or cut some people to reduce cost so people keep their jobs ?

Aaahhh the end of the fiscal year for a lot of companies...fun times on the other side.

If it is true I'm sure I'm sure the Baker dudes were honest and straight up about it with the guys which is the best way in this fucked industry. As much as we would all love of personal opinions of who should be pro, am or just on the team be the truth it's unrealistic. Companies have to evolve and unfortunately that means transitions of eras and riders. Fuck I retired myself to open up spots for the next generation to have an opportunity to live the dream like I was lucky enough to have.

That being said skateboarding is in a weird transition and the ride has just started but hey it's happened before and all it did was make us better.

talking shit on SLAP is super fun, but Cliff is right. At the end of the day, what we would like to see happen, and what makes sense are very very different.

remember kids, skating can stay as pure as you want, but once you start taking free stuff, once you start getting that pay, you changed it. and you're "rules" don't count any more.

Exactly. That is why never mix business with friends or family. People's feelings get way accounted for when these are what even big businesses do. Baker doesn't want to be one of those companies that won't make it in the long run. We've seen them all go down with start up brands and not knowing how to make profit in order to survive in the long run. What sucks is Lenoce and Braydon have been putting out footage too. Lenoce last part in Shake Junt was one of his best. But times are changing and certain folks just need to get out unfortunately.

peter ramondetta on monster energy drink ad northeast corner 2 o'clock destroyed my focus

i had little to say

the last time i saw braydon was when after he was in custody at jfk for refusing to wear shoes. wow, really interesting man.

the heyl ideology is comical. 'dropped'? he was never 'pro' but in a brief, stupid publicity gimmick, for aspiring drug addicts.

lenoce is OG, of course, but no one at the skate shop at this second gives a fuck about lenoce. the people who care about lenoce - including myself - are not buying his product. whether he's off or they're all off or what, is anything of value really lost?
