Has some interesting thoughts on the 'evolution' of skateboarding.

I think a lot of struggling pros should take not of this

"As you already mentioned, you pays particular importance to perception that people have about skateboarding. Have you ever thought about starting your own company, to show the idea that you have about skateboarding?

I have thought about it from time to time. I don?t have long term plans to survive off of the skateboard industry. I think people who do this can often have an adverse effect on skateboarding. They are afraid to take their creativity into some other industry, and the risks involved, so they are forced to squeeze what they can from skateboarding. Id like to give skateboarding my best years, and then find something else to survive off of"

This guy is awesome.  Everything I read from him makes me like him even more.  I really like the fact that he calls himself out on his mistakes, but accepts them without making excuses or trying to cover his ass.  Solid interview.

Excellent interview.  It's a shame more skaters aren't so well spoken.

I'm a little perplexed by this statement

"Contests seem more important for gathering skateboarders together in Europe, and I?ve seen some horrible sponsors at these events, and crowds that i would rather not entertain."

The only questionable contest sponsor that springs to mind is RedBull and their Manny Mania contest. Anyone got an idea of the contests he's referring to?

Is everyone's parents dipshits and burnouts?

He is not writing a philosophical thesis he just views things with a functioning brain. Its not that hard to think, you just have to give it a try.

Its not about making mistakes. I am sure everyone that tends to think for himself in any industry while not being in a position of power has to suffer realising that he has either to make some compromises (against his beliefs and preferences )or go home. Thats what he is talking about.

Also, I'm looking forward to a snarky remark from the Gipper in regards to his Listen to Ron Paul shirt.

.         Cool interview but, What's up with him saying he was mentally disconnected from reality? How did that not spark any further questions? I had heard he freaked out on mushrooms at one point. But he mentioned it wasn't related to drugs... Strange

I don't know either. You have some contests here in Holland but they are not too corny.

If Jake's parents had a huge influence on him he would be reenacting  Good Will Hunting, not speaking well about skating.

Jake had a shroom binge with Brengar and by the end of it he started wearing baggier pants and became a libertarian.

I was speaking more to his comments about having had an egocentric side and getting caught up in the success of his Mindfield part.

Just to be clear, a few people are talking about how well "spoken" Jake is in this interview and as I read it it was clear that these were typed responses. I think this is detrimental when interviewing people as it gives them a chance to edit their responses rather than talking of the cuff which would be more accurate. I love the way Jake skates and he seems like a great guy but the gaps in questioning some of his responses like where he talks about his disconnection with reality kinda leave me hanging for more detail.
