Bones just dropped a new V7 shape in both 97 and 99 a. It’s an extra wide symmetrical shallow conical.

I’m interested in getting back on 99a’s but I don’t want them being to slippery like an F4.
Has anyone skated a plywood bowl on X99s?

I think I’d like that width to make up for an increase in hardness, but don’t know.

X99's and plywood bowls go well together, my friend. I've had no problems with them, whereas with F4 99's I'm in constant danger of slipping out.

X99 is such a damn good all-around wheel, it'll be one of my favorites 'til I die.

I'm curious about the 88s as well. V7 looks very good. Bones killing the wheel game for me. Haven't ridden Spits in the last year or so because PP/Bones offer me better options.

Yeah, the slipping out on carves, and just going down and eating it is what had me veering away from the spits I had.

bones v7 x97 58mm are super thick and heavy due to the shallow gradient of the sidecut. they will reach their maximum riding surface before the diameter shrinks too much, which is great. they slide well after breaking in, but they initially refused to slide, causing one of my bearings blow out.

the thick wall of urethane on either side of the bearing seat makes it feel really sturdy with good feedback, rather than the squishy/rattely feeling of shapes that are designed to be lightweight.

 i would recommend if you like heavy wheels that plow thru shit.

just wanted to put in a plug for the 95a x-formula bones (56mm) from cowtown.  i'm old and heavy, and the 93 dragons are too bouncy for me, and the 97 x-formula (and 93 spits) are too hard/slow/rattly on my rough mn streets/spots; the 95's are seeming quasi-goldilocks so far.  [street only; not sure how they would feel in skateparks.]

Skated the new formula Spit 97s (Delfino 55mm Radials) yesterday for the first time at an indoor park (concrete and plywood).

Felt pretty nice. Sure enough I might need to skate them a bit more for a more accurate analysis, but first impression was good. Not as slippery as F4 99s, and also grippier than the Spit 93s. I really liked the more secure feeling of landing tricks on a plywood corner, as compared to the constant danger of slipping out on e.g. F4 99s. The bark was pretty quiet on concrete, but that might evolve as the wheels start to break in. And they're definitely less bouncy than the 93s, which is no surprise of course.

Speed was similar to the 93s, although I need to observe that more as I also had brand new bearings that might need some breaking in as well (always feel a tad muffled for a session or two).

Overall, I feel they're a keeper for sure.

They do bark nicely.

They're definitely not slow.

So many good wheels around these days. The new F4 97, the Spit 93, the Bones X99, etc.

If nano rats are same as x97 bones, then I’ve never had an issue sliding them on ledges (except on power sliding smooth skatepark concrete: They are more sticky than SPF and don’t make much as much noise)
Nano rats sound like Powell’s answer for “real street skaters”?

All the X formula / dragons are fast! Fast on everything. Fast as SPF’s on smooth skatepark ground.

The dragons are unbelievable. (I know same formula as X). They still sound and feel like hard wheels, but just grip concrete and metal ever so bit much. But not so much that you can’t just go faster and push through whatever you’re doing. Perfect street wheel.

The x99’s are good park wheel: harder, easier to slide… and good for shock absorption for old brittle bones/ligaments.

The dragons stuck on a noseslide metal coping ledge when I wasn’t perfect 90degrees, but no problems with x99.

I can understand why people don’t understand the reason for x97’s. (Or x95 now.) does one really need THREE (four) sets of wheels? Not me. I have street missions and park skating figured out now (dragon 93 and x99 respectively)

Powell vs Bones I guess? Marketing?

Maybe so: who wants to be a “real street skater” on 93’s. X97 or X99 is a little more “acceptable” to say maybe.

That's what I've been doing and it's great. Swapping wheels doesn't take too long and the difference in feel between the two for different spots is worth the trouble for me. I think I prefer 99a Formula Four overall for most parks but the x99's are perfectly fine as well.

I've been skating the 54x34 97a nano rats (V4 shape - big radial outside lip) and they are faster, whiter and harder feeling than the x97s (54mm v5s) I have. I'm really enjoying them. Slide great, right up there with spit 99s/x99s.

In hindsight, I do wish I had gotten 52s as the 34 width is too hesh for my terrain, and eat up too much 8.25" hanger but oh well. Better bark and slide than the x97s, feel more like x99s - they don't squeal on pinch friends either, they def refined them a bit or it's just a fluke run of the formula.

Do be aware they have no labeling (except on the back in the bar code area) if you are getting a V5 or V4 shape (even tho they are both the same innder edge wheels shape); it's the outer that's different. So be aware if you are buying on line and be sure to look very carefully. Only the V5s nanos come in 30 width (V4 are 34 wide). the inner lip is essentially the V2 'lock-in' shape.

They do what they are advertised to do, roll on easy and lockin great; if you go for the V5 shape just know that you can get spit lock-ins in a harder duro if that's your pref and get the same results for rolling on and locking in but they will be a tad wider.

99 FF are just about the most perfect "normal" skate wheel for just about anything you can think of.  Not surprising at all you prefer it.

Two areas that the X/dragons do better I've found: roll faster on smooth skatepark concrete, and roll faster (with less chatter) on really rough ground.  They're like a less barky (and more grippy) SPF wheel, that rolls like a soft wheel over chunky asphalt (and also quieter).

So if going as fast as possible at the skatepark, or skating chunky asphalt, isn't really something you're interested in; then the 99 FF's are simply angelic.  (And Ben D. approved, which is almost the same thing)

I wonder sometimes if back in the heyday of youth, would formula four or x/dragon formula win out.....
