I noticed the cheap Bones and got some stf v3 52mm.  I was surprised how soft they are.  They feel more like 97a or 95a to me and are significantly more grippy than f4 and a little faster.  F4 has the superior slide.  Honestly, I think dragons and 95x slide better.  You can adapt to the slide with a bit of practice.
What is cool about these wheels is they are lightweight and only 29mm wide but the ride patch at 15mm is quite sufficient.  Worth checking out on sale if your trying to lighten your set up.

STF 99s or 103?

I rode STF 103 for years, and the last set I purchased (probably 2023?) rode smoother than the other 5-6 sets I had.  I had to check to make sure they weren't the STF 99s.  I also had 99s, and the new 103s were still faster and slid better than those - but they didn't seem like past 103s. Bones made no mention of a formula tweak.

They were 99a.  I need to try the 103a as it sounds they are better.

Anyone else noticing bones on sale at multiple shops for under 25$

Everyone wants the X Formula, so the STFs are super cheap.

What do X Formula do differently/better than STFs?

X99 slide much better than stf99 and roll much smoother than stf103.

It is safe to say x formula are superior wheels in that they are more durable and slide better.  Even 97x and 95x slide really great.  X formula are closer to F4 feel. I can see some who prefer really hard wheels having preference for the stf 103.  On a budget, the stf will get the job done.

Slide is still superior on stfs compared to x formula, and superior on original formula four compared to the new 93a and 97a spitfires

On the older formulas you can do one sweeping consistent slide motion of various lengths/distance, and with the new ones you end up skidding.  They still break into slide easy but it’s not the same level of slide control and consistency

I’ll take it though for the soft duro

I'm on SPF103s and won't be going back to X99s unless I need the board to live a dual life of cruising to the spot or back to the car sometimes. My park's smooth enough to where the difference isn't massive, other than feeling bit faster on the 103.

The X99 are a fantastic all-around wheel, but I wouldn't ride them if I only skated transition in smooth concrete parks.

Other than that, the X-Formula (both 97 and 99) is pretty much my go to formula these days from indoors to outdoors.

I’m still deep in a wheel-madness journey.  I never skate Bones wheels.  Do the STF 103a’s slide really well for noseslides/tailslides? Or any thoughts in general on them? Ty

Yes, the 103s are the best sliding wheels IMO. Specifically nose/tail slides where you are sliding fully on wheels, no baseplate. Not talking about powerslides.

They sound great and I personally like V1 and V3 shape more than Spitfire Classic shape.

Stf 99a 52.   These wheels definitely have a grippy coating you need to wear through and now they slide fine.  Not like a f4 but good enough.  Worth the 23 bucks.

I did not see anyone mention them so far but I got the PROD 52mm.  95a.  V5.  X95 Bones wheel.

I love these wheels.  My favorite mid-softs.   They slide great.  They are quiet so if you need a hard sounding loud wheel skip these.

They are slightly better dragons.
I think spit soft sliders are a harder wheel.

Xformula and dragons are def quiet, actually near silent to the point where it’s distracting, that along with them numbing ground feel more than other wheels with the same hardness make me not wanna use them

What wheels should I get for my dusty indoor park? Just signed up for a membership and the F4 99a's are way too slippery. I'm lazy and don't want to change wheels for different things and need something that is decent for everywhere.

Should I get:
Bones X99
Bones X97
Bones X95
Dragon 93's
97 Spitfires (Old Formula)
97 Spitfires (New Formula)
93 Spitfire Soft Sliders

Probably not the new 97's because I don't want a giant wheel, I do more tech flip trick stuff and the Radial Fulls seem huge. I'm thinking either classic spitfire soft sliders or some V1 or V5 X97's but I wanted to get some opinions from people here who have rode some of these.

from what i've read on here it seems like the bones/powell wheels are grippier than spitfire's equivalent, so a 93 dragon should be grippier than a f4 93 and an x97 should be grippier than a f4 97. i've only tried old spit 97s and i really like them, they're less slippery than 99s but still slippery, not the best for indoor stuff but definitely an improvement.

Bones X97 are the best for a dusty indoor. Been rocking them a couple of indoor seasons now and they rule. Fast while being grippy. Also, louder than the 93 options. Feels like a real wheel, not like a bouncy ball.

In my experience the X99 can be a tad too slippery if the park is really dusty and has lotsa plywood. Normal 99's are a no-no to me in those conditions.

Ordered some 51mm 97A Dragon Kelvin Hoefler Nano Rats, should be the same as Bones X97, I presume. The shape intrigued me, they are like V1's on the outside and V5's on the inside. Basically, same as the new Spitfire Ishod Lock-In Classic shape. Just have to use some acetone or something to remove the cringey graphic, since it's an asymmetrical shape. Haven't skated 51's in years, but should be fine for how I skate. Hopefully they grip good at my indoor.

Same urethane yeah. I got the Bones X97 V6 Wide Cuts because I couldn't find the && Dragons locally. Really nice and fast wheels on a lot of surfaces outdoors. Only got them after the indoor season, surprised to hear they grip so well there, they slide so easy on concrete and asphalt.

i've ridden the 93 Dragons and the 93 Spitfires in the last few days and they are honestly pretty different. I'm doing to stick with the Spits for now but I like both and will definitely be keeping the Dragons.

The Dragon 93's feel like a soft wheel that can act like a hard wheel. They're a little bouncy, the sound like a soft wheel, they're grippy, they roll over crust l ike it's not thereand they definitely shock absorb cracks etc... and yet somehow they slide great!

The Spitfire 93's feel like a hard wheel that can act like a soft wheel. They sound like a hard wheel, the slide like a hard wheel, they're fast like a hard wheel and they don't shock absorb crack nearly as well as the Dragons. Yet somehow they're great on crust and keep my old ass knees and feet on the board longer than a hard wheel.

Here’s an article about HLC acquiring Aend industries awhile back, so I’m guessing any HLC wheels will be from the same people that make autobahn etc. etc

IMO

The Dragon formula 93s feel great on rough surfaces but slow and sluggish on smoother terrain like skateparks. The 97s feel a lot better. Spitfire 93s or 97s are good too and seem to hold speed better in parks and feel more like a regular skate wheel.
