These my dude

https://nhsskatedirect.com/products/55mm-nick-boserio-little-devils-original-white-99a-skateboard-wheels-oj
I got wrong info about that wheel, thinking they were slightly wider than Radial Fulls, and didn’t bother trying to get them in December. Almost 36 mm of riding surface with 43 mm width sounds fun. If they restock, I’ll definitely try a set. Hope you enjoy them.

Thanks I think this dye is better than the Rit
And I started just under boiling

They were in the dye for about 8 hours

Time will tell if the dye penetrated!
We had snow here so I hope to get out this week

They look super good, I’m planning to try the same dye on some 95a F4. Did you suspend them somehow in the dye solution or just have them sitting at the bottom of a pot?  How much water did you end up using?

TMX checked out...

From looking at a few posts online about it, some use a beaker or similar thing, while others use a glass kettle looking thing and I have seen someone just boil them in an old pot on a stovetop too, so anything really works.

You don't need to suspend them if you are doing the whole thing - just put them in there and have enough water to cover them all, but if you only want half or something a little more fancy, you can keep them on sticks or something and sit in shallow trays, as Darren Navarrette has done for his half and half wheels in the past.

This one seems to have all the basic facts and help tips without having to watch a whole video, but I am sure there are any number of others out there too, when I searched "Dye skateboard wheels"

from r/NewSkaters

A number of others on here have done it and even just search DYE here, a few posts in a couple of pages come up, including this one from Derby:

https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=10804.msg4386789#msg4386789

yeee. copied this from the video i used.

“How to Dye:
OPTIONAL STEP: Use 100% Acetone and paper towels to scrub off the graphic on the wheels. It doesn't take long and will not damage the wheels.
Clean wheels with hot soapy water. You can scrub by hand or with a brush.
Fill a medium sized metal pot with water and bring it to a boil. It should be 200 degrees fahrenheit when ready.
Add 1 teaspoon of dish soap.
Add your dye. (I used about a ¼ of the bottle)
OPTIONAL STEP: Place wheels on a shoestring.
Place wheels in the water and continuously move them.
Check wheels occasionally until desired color is achieved.
Once color is reached, take wheels out of the water and place them in a bowl.
Rinse wheels in cold water until water runs clear.
 Dry and you are finished”

I appreciate the legwork, TMX post was the first time I’d seen the iDye Poly used but will likely just follow the available advice for using Rit with it.

I’ll try and follow up with how the iDye job goes with a couple sets of wheels (and maybe some of my hiking clothing).

Love those old buicks. Love those wheels as well. About to switch to the grimples which is essentially the same wheel I'm pretty sure.

They look better in your color. Nice work

Looking for some cruiser/ atv type wheels to skate around some neighborhood crush with my  son. He is starting to learn to ride a bike so I wanted to push around parking lots and sidewalks with him. He’s riding at a walking pace.

Long story short best wheels I’m gonna put on a heated wheel 9.25 egg cruise sidewalks and parking lots but still get some decent snappy pops and not feel like I’m skating through pudding. But want to be able to roll over cracks and small rocks if possible I’ve never skated anything under 99a. So I have no idea what I’m looking for and I looked through the thread but so many duros and formulas seem to be changing I’m lost on where everything is standing now.

Some of the bigger soft wheels are better for just doing laps or getting from A to B, which might be more what you are after, as they can go quite fast and smooth over a lot of stuff the in between options might get caught on or still shake you off your board.

That said, I guess it is more just finding something that could work, but I would say 93 duro like the Spitfire soft sliders in as big a size as you are willing to go could be the answer, over anything that is 95 duro and above, which will still rattle a lot.  The other thing being if you do want to slide a little at least they are good for that too, compared to the lower duro options of Spitfire 80HD or anything 90 and below really, but the lower duro wheels will roll more easily over everything and you can still do laps well on the 80HD wheels very comfortably.

Some of those Powell Rough Riders are really smooth and fast and they do make them in small enough sizes, but they are so expensive too and I can't justify getting them (apart from the used set from a trade in I got) otherwise something like that could also be good.

It is these sort of situations where some people just jump right in and get something they might regret later, or just don't have anyone else around with a board they can try, just to figure out what works, but I have a good number of cruisers set up, mostly with medium to large wheels, but also some smaller soft wheels too, which still work, but it is a lot more pushing and they slow down faster the smaller you go.

There really are so many options out there too - many brands have a cruiser wheel in their lineup, some of which are good for some things but not so good for others, but I guess it can also depend on where you go to get anything and whatever they have in stock to look at or the options you have.

* I prefer Spitfire wheels, so I am always going to say Spitfire 80HD, 93 duro Soft Sliders or similar, but Bones do make good wheels, as well as any number of other brand wheels I have with a medium sized profile in 80 to 90 duro or similar option too.

Small wheel brand Jane doe, just dropped these which I think are sick. Color, shape and hardness. Not sure who makes their wheels, I just know they’re printed in house. They also have a bunch of more traditional wheels in various shapes

I'd recommend these ones, the Powells are more of a cruiser wheel and the Bannerots are moreso just a big ass street wheel

Powell G-Slides 85a 59mm

Spitfire Radial Full 93a 58mm

You can also get the G-Slides in 56mm which I think is more than enough for sidewalks/bike paths, rocks, etc

I thoroughly enjoyed my 58mm 93a radials cruising around on old crappy asphalt but the 56mm G-Slides we just got are even better

Once you get into the 80s as far as duro they start to suck for doing grinds and and stuff and squeak on coping and rails, and might chunk

Anyone in here NOT skating Spitfire or Bones?

Just found an old set of SML wheels I forgot about and I'm actually liking them more than my F4 99's

Yeah, I skating Powell wheels on my main setup.  ;)

On my last setup, switched from Spitfire to some unknown “Classic” shape style wheels I’ve had sitting around for over 20 years. Most likely blanks but I really have no idea what they are other than the shape and thy seem to be 101 or harder.

Been skating 51 inch skinny ass pj ladd wheels forever but they get too small and i slip into lipslide doing my fs smiths far too often, i switched to 53 wide ass cut bones, i lock in every time and stay in the grind now but i slow down like twice as fast and my wheels screetch loud as fuck

You think im fucked if i actually shaved that inside part that pinches while still benefiting from the wider flat part that helps me lock in every try?!

Any recommendations on big wheels that still grind really good!? My shop always filled with bones n spitfire but havent tried them for years

I have boards set up in the loan pool at the shop that I do skate with quite a number of different wheel brands, but for the most part, they just don't perform quite as well, or feel quite feel as good as the boards I usually ride with Formula Four wheels.

Wheel brands on other boards include SML, Ojs, Slimeballs, Bones, Ricta, Satori, Pig, Mini Logo, Wayward, Speedlab, plus a number of deck brand, shop brand, blanks and other assorted small local brands wheels.  Although I feel like I have seen every single brand wheel with flatspots including Formula Four and SPF / STF varieties, I think Spitfire and Bones have the least issues there, especially given the number of things I have hit and my wheels are still good.

It is not at all about the image, the branding, the team or anything else, as I almost always blank my wheels anyway, but it is how they work that is what makes it a very easy decision for me.

If people want other wheels, that is quite ok - I don't ever want to try to talk anyone out of whatever product choices they make, but I find more than anything, people try different things and then more often than not, come back round to one of the two most common wheel brands for a reason.  They just perform better, as well as having their own urethane products, specialty shapes, sizes, duro options and more.

I get no freebies, no kickbacks or anything from any brand, or any one either, but I do sell so many more Spitfire wheels than any other brand, especially after people try some of the boards with other brand wheels at the shop / park where I work.

Are your SML wheels the bright white ones, or the more natural coloured ones?  They had two formulas / options there and if you search in this thread, some good info comes up about them.

* This compilation post has all the relevant info too:

Bones: V7 Double Locks
OJ: Mini Combos
Spitfire: Lock-In Full

I have no idea about modifying wheels. Unless you’re good with tools, it’s probably better to buy a new set and sell the old ones.

Anyone got the ride report on the most recent batch of Spitfire 93a? That dude ETANG made a video saying that the Bannerot wheels are lacking in the magic of the first batch and just feel like original 97s.

They feel different to me also. Perhaps even more slide. I'd actually prefer a little more grip. Was skating a rough spot the other day and slipped out cornering a line into a trick a couple of times. Still amazing wheels but they do wear down quick and are better than the OG 97s IMO.

Looking at the Powell 51mm kelvin hoeffler dragon wheels. Currently have the ricta speed rings and although they’re a great wheel, the 99a feels like a 101a. I’m 35 and was in the military my joints are all tweaked so figure the 97a would feel a little bit better. Anyone skate these wheels? If so how are they and is it true they skate like a 99a as far as grip goes but feel like a 97a?

Yes, they run soft like a true 97a, but the grip is variable depending on the surface.
They are meant for rougher terrain, the slide comes from how they vibrate, which allows them to slide even though they are soft.

But if the ground is too smooth, they grip like a regular gummy 97 (at least until they are really worn in). But in rougher stuff they break into a slide really easily.

Appreciate that! I mostly either skate in my garage smooth surface or the park smooth surface. Landing even just kickflips from the Rictas I can feel throughout my body 😂 had some spitfire classics but they were a bit wide I like a slimmer wheel but the softness of them were great felt like a true 99a. I was looking at the OJ double duros too but they don’t offer them in many sizes for the mini combo. Used to like autobahn but only size I found for those on eBay was the 53mm duo duro. Guess I’ll keep shopping around hopefully I find something.

Gotta tripple down on that about the ricta hardness on the 99a wheels
