Do you find them "steep"? I keep hearing the kicks are super steep but to me it just looks like more fingers of flat but the same overall angle.
Is not steep at all, at least not for me. Also is on the flat side which is a big plus for me.

Got those 2x 8.5 Element Phil Z decks today and they are "Built by BBS" plus have identical specs to the 8.5 Black Labels I've had.
I loved those, so if they're using the same mold for 8.5 at Element, as well as Black Label (and other brands I'm sure) then for $25 (sale still happening at the big Z) I'd recommend scooping up a deck or two.

These ones?

https://www.zumiez.com/element-zwijsen-earth-rev-8-5-skateboard-deck.html

The good thing there is they do show the tops of them in images, which should help anyone see if they have "Built by BBS" in the top line, or just the board size and other generic info from the one made in China.

* Seems like it is the only BBS 8.5 from those boards I brought up too.

The two of those I got a while back, also on a super good sale here in AU were the best concave and everything for me, a little more on the mellow side than the Black Label and a few other BBS boards in those same dimensions I have bought before and after.

On one hand I would say get all of those ones while you can, as they work out cheaper to buy and blank than actually buying the blanks to start with, but for some people, that would be more trouble than it is worth.

The ones I have blanked really well.  Nice stains too.
Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Yes, those ones! Wanted to add my confirmation for any other US pals looking to still score some quality decks for an affordable price OR were also skeptical of BBS vs China vs PS vs Clutch, etc. woodshop versions some brands have had to alternate to during Covid.

These two I got do not have the divot/circle indent that most BBS boards tend to use, but do not always. Regardless, the shape, concave, tail/nose "hips" all look like other BBS I have, so I'm happy. I got natural wood stain and orange for the tops!

That Phil Z graphic is one of the more inoffensive ones from Element I've seen, so no need to blank for me. Happy to skate them as is  :)

Why not? It’s what the threads here for, right?

- 144 Indy Hollow
- Walker Flocked 8.38 (white dipped bird pattern stamp, red to blue fade)
- Bones x99 52mm v1 Gustavo wheels
- Indy Blue bushings
- Indy Black bushings
- Walker Zen 8.38 from last summer drop (huge Black Friday sale)

What’s the result of the spending spree?
- gave away x99 to friend as early Christmas present. Went back to x97.
- Black bushings too hard, not using
- Blue Bushing too hard, not using
- hollows were too loud, so added “Liquid Nails” type epoxy to bottom opening of kingpin under truck. Seems to help deaden high pitchy-ness
- waiting for zen board to arrive so it can be in the closet as backup for a few months from now.

Thanks y’all. It’s been fun.

How are the hollows loud?? Are you referring to how they grind or something else?

I've skated a few hollow Indys and never experienced this high pitch sound you are talking about @JM

I got 6.1s on the way.

9" Ben Raybourn. Has a 14.25 wb I think. I'm pretty sure I searched Orchard with the key words 14.25 and boom there it was.

I am beyond stoked.

When those Spit Beat downs drop I'm going to cop a set in each size.

My hope is a pro will try the 66.6 and be like yo! That's my joint that's my ham salad. Satanic pro model plz. We can keep them in regular rotation so I'll never go speed deprived again.

We really are finally breaking new ground in popular skatebloarding.

The vibrations are louder… so grinding on chunky ledge yeah, but most noticeable when rolling on rougher ground.

It’s more “plink” than “plunk”.

I just came off skating standard base, standard kingpin, and titanium hangar (frankenindy)… so no hollow anywhere.

:-\ I hope you never catch this kind of neuroticism.

Fuck that's exactly the difference.

It's like a tinselly bright sound.

Boom!!!!

9" Ben Raybourn
6.1s!!!

Shorty's longer hardware for when the Beat Downs 66.6 drop in the spring.

I'm low key scared I'm not going to get a set. I feel like asking someone at Dlx if I could buy a set early.

Yeah I'm really nervous about not seeing a set in time.

This is a historic f****** event. Dude spitfire I don't think they've ever done a wheel that big.
They started with the smallest of the small. I got some old butter tablets in my toolbox.
There's been a 63 I think for Grosso.

So i feel like collectors are going to jump on them.

Especially because they have the dope ass cmyk Warpaint
graphic.

I need a set to ride and a set to keep.

I don't like saying that they will last me the rest of my life.
I hope I live way longer than that

And I know when people like Pedro and Funk and Greene get these wheels it's going change some shit.

Kids are going to trip out once the feel the wind whipping in one ear and out the other.

We really are at the forefront of speed now.

Shits going to change shit like big time.

Been of the shaped boards lately but Shimizu is one of my all-time favorites and this is small enough over the trucks to work with the 8.0” AF1 lows I’ve been skating.

@Uncle Flea All of that looks sick. Nice job.

Picked up some 5.8s and 54 x99s V6 (wide boys). Wish I would have gotten 6.1s as the 5.8s are feeling small with these wide wheels.

Venture/Skate Jawns 5.8s/bones x99s 54mm / dickies slim fit (but really aren't) / SW perforated grip (I'm loving this stuff)

Hell yeah.

Let's us know about how you like the wheels. They look sick. Kinda vintage looking that combo. Very nice.

I can't believe my board has a 14" wb. Tomorrow I'm skating flat all day then hitting the diy after I get rails.

I haven't done a board slide in 3 set ups. I've been feeling religious lately.

I threw them on my last 8.5 Foy twin tail (14.28wb) and had a great session.

Honestly the ventures felt great stock, no adjustment…but still wish I went 6.1 (for a specific curb spot)…I think I’ll nab some 6.1s for the madness…. But damn, you know how hard it was to find Hollow cast 5.8s, let alone that collab?

Not to repeat a post, I dropped some feedback in the wheels thread on those X 99s but suffice to say, the wheels felt haaard, much harder that my white x99s but the shape locked in and rolled out well.

All y’alls gear on this page is sick.

Seeing those Ventures makes me want to get a set and try nose grinds again with them…

And there’s nothing like a fresh pack of Shorty’s  hardware. mmh-MMMH!

Here’s my panic buy from an extended Black Friday sale. Maybe going to make it first deck to hang on wall till it gets used (or kept as wall art because it’s so damn fine in person: opaque clear coat that has some glitter in it that shows the wood grain underneath. And blue top is super sweet. Just please no yellow… I do NOT like yellow)

I think that was the board that was supposed to be "Mellow mold" or something similar, so if you have had DLX boards, or BBS in general before, how does it compare to those others?

Even to stand on it on carpet or something, does it feel flat or more mellow than any other board you have had recently?

* Maybe not after looking it up again.  That one is Zen with natural ply, from the catalog listing.  Some others were "mellow mold" or "mellow mold slick" from what I can see.
