i managed to get a full run of the same DLX board in all pressings (I-IV).
@Mbrimson88 is there an objective way to measure the concave on a board? dont have access to any fancy tools/measuring devices.
otherwise, im just gonna use pics and “feel” to see of the boards hold true to the common perceptions re: press numeral
Both those above are good answers.
The most interesting thing with having the four (or more) of the same board, laying them one on top of the other in a stack, in order I top, II, III and IV bottom first to see if they do all line up, then put I on the bottom to see how much gap there is in the middle, then the I on the IV to see how much the ends of the kicks sit up, or other mix and match / fun experiments to see how much concave there is between the four boards.
Sometimes you might find that the numbers don't actually add up in terms of the order and it might sit better I, III, II, IV or something, which I have seen before, mainly because I don't think you would get the same four boards ever that would have been on a single press, especially if they are different wood stains, as they would often run a lot of yellow tops together, then a lot of green tops, at least from one of the videos it was like that, but who knows these days.
You can also sit them either flat on the graphic and have the boards end to end, the noses tip to tip, or the tails tips to tips to compare them. A I stamp will often sit up maybe a finger width more than a IV stamp.
Also have them side by side graphic down and compare the middle concave beside each other, or sit them all graphic up side by side and look across them to see which one sits up the highest in the middle.
Both those ways I have been able to see significant differences, without any actual tools, measuring devices, angle finders or whatever else.
* Is it just iphones that have the built in angle finder / level, or others too?
