Been nursing a labral tear in my right hip, torn meniscus in my right knee, and a floppy right ankle that rolls over on flat ground at times... I have accepted the fact that I am old and my body is slowly withering away... Just trying to enjoy it while I can...

Anyone deal with ankle pain/soreness not from a roll or a sprain? The last few sessions I’ve had I had a super sore, painful front ankle for a few days after. I went skating today and kickflips really hurt. I’ve rolled plenty of ankles in my day and that’s what the pain feels like, but I haven’t injured it at all. I’m planning to look back through this thread to try and find other suggestions for ankle pain.

Had a weird/hard slam in the bowl on Tuesday. I've been in a lot of pain since. It was getting worse so I went an got an x-ray and I broke a rib. Pretty bummed, not only because it hurts but because I've been skating a lot and actually feeling really good about my skating. Not sure how long I need to take off but probably a month or two...

some docs have told me I have hyperlaxity of ligaments.
I also dislocated my right shoulder a few times and ended up getting surgery to keep it in place. Thankfully it worked perfectly. No problem since,  30 years ago.

and I'm also (again) a member of the "knee acting up" club! This shit is real weird....I used to have pretty bad knee pain for years, then it stopped for no reason and I was stoked, I could skate whithout problem again.  Now it seems another problematic phase is starting, so gonna keep off the board for a few weeks and hope for the best.    :-X

Did your ankle or fibula ever fully recover? My ankle ligaments kinda pop when i spin it and its been like a year. also feels like that part of my leg is significantly weaker than my right. thinking about doing PT maybe.

Fuck this year - first the left knee dislocation, now a possible torn right hamstring due to a transition bail gone terribly wrong.

I was trying a blunt-crail-body varial to regular on a fairly steep bank to quarter. Trick sounds kind of psycho but it was one I really enjoyed as a kid and it’s been feeling within reach. Long story short, stepped on my board and basically did the splits all the way down. My leg was giving out and I couldn’t push out of the park. It seems I can walk but I’m in really bad pain if I sit with too much hip flexion. I am so fucking mad at myself right now man - I don’t know why I can’t just let myself have a mellow sesh ever. Maybe this will teach me.

Best of luck on your recovery as well.

The white buffalo of a chill session....idk if it exists. Went to skate a bank to curb myself, next thing you're on hip high pole pams. Hopefully we never learn or lesson... the time is always now, right?

no weakness but it does pop. It popped before though ha! I had lots of ankle rolls before I had that one break....  PT is probably a good idea if you feel there is a problem! Key is finding a good specialist.

@OldieButFrenchie sorry about the knee pain.

ate shit going full speed tonight.

Rolled down a tall/steep bank at the park and while getting ready to pump-up the next bank... I hit a fucking piece of loose bondo and got tossed. I got super lucky, i got ripped some skin of my hand and elbow, but rolled and landed right before the up bank. If the piece of bondo was 2 feet closer to the bank, I probably would have broken my arm, collar bone, or head.

I really need some good injury advice y’all…

My 2nd/3rd metatarsal heads are all inflamed. The ball of the foot at the base of the toes.

It came on all of a sudden, more than a week ago. Not even while skating—just walking. It still hurts to walk, and popping the board is right out.

So: two questions for anyone out there who has dealt with this and come back from it…
1. What exercises helped strengthen your feet?
(Ones I already did daily before the injury: stand on 1 foot, eccentric slow calf raise, towel scrunch, write the alphabet with foot/ankle)

2. Did any exercise TOOLS help? For example, these blackboard foot exercisers?

Super grateful for any insight. Goddamn I hate these chronic pain things that won’t go away…

Meant to post this day of but here is my bad ankle(1st pic) vs the good and a new x-ray to go with the bad. Surgery on Monday.

Really rough ten days mentally for me when I wasnt geeking out on Vidya games, especially the three day drive home. Had to teach my wife to drive stick. Which was part of the original plan but there was obviously some added pressure now. She did great, granted I set her up for success by having her start flat on ramps but she never killed it. That has all passed tho. Back to being "productive". As I can be anyways.

I like doing circles with my ankles after the alphabet as well. Both ways. Stand on the tennis ball and give your feet a massage after sessions. Soak your feet in Epsom salt occasionally, shit will give me such a good night's sleep too. Fp insoles are a big win. Watch the sugar intake but that's easier said than done haha.

wanted to share some fun injury stories from the past month

i've been skating a ton this year and have been pretty fortunate to make it through most of spring/summer with no injuries
4.5 weeks ago i was warming up and trying to nosebonk this little wall and got credit carded right to the taint - there was 5 minutes of pain and then it was fine and i had a great session - afterwards when i went to pee there was a bit of blood and some pain, so i figured i should go the emergency room - i was pretty set on trying the trick i was warming up for, so we still went to the spot and tried for about an hour and then i headed to the ER at around 11pm

they said it looked fine, no fracture or anything, but they wanted to put a catheter in as a precaution so the urethra didn't scar or narrow while healing - i had to stay there until 7am when the full urology team came in - the process of getting it inserted was extremely painful and yea i had a bag for piss for a week - what they didn't tell me was that this week would be super uncomfortable with bouts of extreme pain (apparently this is normal, 'bladder spasms' from the catheter) so i was bedridden for a week - i did get to read and cook a lot and watch a bunch of movies
luckily i was scheduled to have it removed the day before a friend arrived for a weeklong skate trip - i did get a UTI from the catheter which is supposedly common, but other than that it was totally fine and we skated a ton the following week

fast forward to today, all is good - i skated 2 days ago, i'm supposed to skate tomorrow, but i was restless this morning so i headed to the skatepark - it felt like a lazy session so i just ended up skating flat + the curb - i've been wanting to learn slappy nosegrinds and once i started trying it today i got closer than i've ever gotten. landed a couple and then started packing up my bike to leave, but something in me wanted to keep going - got a couple more and then decided to record it on my phone.

while i was trying it, i became aware that it's kind of risky for the lead ankle - there's more happening than with a slappy bs or fs crook - your foot can fly over the curb or off the end - after a few more tries, there it is, i rolled my lead ankle

based on the impact and the level of pain after sitting for 10 minutes, it feels like a grade 1 sprain so i should be good to walk normally in 2 days
i was planning on skating less in october anyways, so i'm not really bummed that this forces the issue - i've also been doing better with sobriety than i ever have so i'm in really good spirits about this (rather than wallowing and drinking/using to pass the time with previous injuries)
i guess the clips i wanted to get will have to wait but i got 2 books in the mail today and i'll have more time on my hands now  :)

Hey I broke my wrist this year too.  May 23. First session after turning 40.   Surgery June 2.   Plate and 11 screws.    Hang in there.   The hardest part is knowing you could skate but shouldn't.   It can be mental turmoil.  Hope your surgery went well.    I was kayaking a month after.  But I still don't have full range of movement and dealing with pain so it's a mixed bag.

Thanks, I appreciate hearing your experience. I think the surgery went well but I will know more on the 25th. Funny, today I was talking to the physical therapist about being able to kayak at the end of October. She thinks it will be possible and you just backed that up. Stoked!

had a grade 2 ankle sprain on labor day on my push foot and haven't been on the board since. this week i'm finally able to walk full weight and been walking around 5 miles a day and doing strengthening exercises. killing me to not skate the last of the summer weather. hopefully next week at some point I can attempt cruising around. could have been a lot worse, especially based some other posts on this page alone. stay strong pals.

Ankle sprains are tough. Too easy to come back too soon and have to start rehab all over again. Take it easy and give it time. Heal up well!

yeah I'm usually one of those types that skates through any minor to medium level injury as long as it's not extremely painful and it kinda goes away the more I move. but with this sprain, I could see and feel that it was pretty serious. the swelling was massive and during the 2nd week the bruising was crazy looking all over the side of my foot. I'm being conscious of the fact that I need to not mess around and make sure I'm completely healed and that my foot is strengthened back to normal so I don't roll it again and make matters even worse.

Right now Im dealing with a psoriatic arthritis flare up in my knee. Some last longer than others, but for right now its like a spike is in my knee cap. Epsom salt baths and acupunture help settle it down. Best wishes for pals that are dealing with worse

I had a talonavicular ankle fusion a few weeks ago after 30 years of this stuff left me with a non functioning ankle due to severe arthritis. Doc seems pretty optimistic I'll be running and skating again in a few months, curious if anyone else has had this kind of procedure before.

howd you snap your ankle?

fucked up on a sweeper, dislocated my foot and broke by fibula in 2 spots.

aparently the syndesmotic screw broke and my foot shuffled out of place again. they say it is within the reasonable limit and shoulnt be a problem tho..
they gonna remove the screws and plate soon, dont know a date yet. but theyre not even sure if that will solve the pain and mobility issues i have now.
on top of that last weekend when i was walking i felt my bones shuffle (like what it felt like when the screw broke 5 months ago) and now it hurts like hell and i cant move my foot at all again.. probably have to see a doctor again for that..

they gonna remove the screws and plate soon, dont know a date yet. but theyre not even sure if that will solve the pain and mobility issues i have now.
on top of that last weekend when i was walking i felt my bones shuffle (like what it felt like when the screw broke 5 months ago) and now it hurts like hell and i cant move my foot at all again.. probably have to see a doctor again for that..

damn that sucks, stay off that hoe fr

how big was the transition?
i gotta get off this fuckin website
