wanted to share some fun injury stories from the past month
i've been skating a ton this year and have been pretty fortunate to make it through most of spring/summer with no injuries
4.5 weeks ago i was warming up and trying to nosebonk this little wall and got credit carded right to the taint - there was 5 minutes of pain and then it was fine and i had a great session - afterwards when i went to pee there was a bit of blood and some pain, so i figured i should go the emergency room - i was pretty set on trying the trick i was warming up for, so we still went to the spot and tried for about an hour and then i headed to the ER at around 11pm
they said it looked fine, no fracture or anything, but they wanted to put a catheter in as a precaution so the urethra didn't scar or narrow while healing - i had to stay there until 7am when the full urology team came in - the process of getting it inserted was extremely painful and yea i had a bag for piss for a week - what they didn't tell me was that this week would be super uncomfortable with bouts of extreme pain (apparently this is normal, 'bladder spasms' from the catheter) so i was bedridden for a week - i did get to read and cook a lot and watch a bunch of movies
luckily i was scheduled to have it removed the day before a friend arrived for a weeklong skate trip - i did get a UTI from the catheter which is supposedly common, but other than that it was totally fine and we skated a ton the following week
fast forward to today, all is good - i skated 2 days ago, i'm supposed to skate tomorrow, but i was restless this morning so i headed to the skatepark - it felt like a lazy session so i just ended up skating flat + the curb - i've been wanting to learn slappy nosegrinds and once i started trying it today i got closer than i've ever gotten. landed a couple and then started packing up my bike to leave, but something in me wanted to keep going - got a couple more and then decided to record it on my phone.
while i was trying it, i became aware that it's kind of risky for the lead ankle - there's more happening than with a slappy bs or fs crook - your foot can fly over the curb or off the end - after a few more tries, there it is, i rolled my lead ankle
based on the impact and the level of pain after sitting for 10 minutes, it feels like a grade 1 sprain so i should be good to walk normally in 2 days
i was planning on skating less in october anyways, so i'm not really bummed that this forces the issue - i've also been doing better with sobriety than i ever have so i'm in really good spirits about this (rather than wallowing and drinking/using to pass the time with previous injuries)
i guess the clips i wanted to get will have to wait but i got 2 books in the mail today and i'll have more time on my hands now
