Psyched for the Aussie and Kiwi event tomorrow night!
Izzy has made things beyond awkward in the build-up (I think he was jacking off a dog and then later cried?), but I guess that kind of balances out with DDP's awkward fighting style. Plus their original face-off was hella wrong with Izzy calling him the n-word to try and bait him or something. I want and expect Du Plessis to take a decision.
In the Kai Kara-France fight, I think Erceg is gonna get the TKO on the ground after some nice combos and grappling control. Somehow Kara-France has been a walk-off KO guy at flyweight, but I think Erceg is able to stay out of the fire and eventually beat him up.
LOVE Tuivasa but just don't see him winning this one or really any more ranked fights. Maybe he'll pull a Mark Hunt and have a resurgence but he's on a bad slide. Would love to see a nasty KO and celebration though.
yeah it has been a very uncomfortable build up with the racial stuff. the dog thing was from years ago, mma guru dug it up and exploited it, then strickland brought it up a bunch before their fight which made izzy emotional. to be fair, still very weird but it was just a live video of him with his dog and he jokingly grabbed its dick, which is still really weird but it’s not like he full on jacked the thing off. i honestly don’t know who to pick, it’s fairly even, ddp’s pressure, take downs, ground and pound and submission game is going to be a problem but, he has little to no defense and gets hit a lot. strickland jabbed his face off in their fight and i believe only lost because of the cut on his eye which was from a head butt. i can see izzy countering ddp and ko’ing him marching forward defenselessly or ddp just pressuring him too much and taking him down over & over and being too strong for izzy to deal with.
i for sure see erceg beating kai. kai is a good kickboxer and lands heavy shots, but i think erceg’s ground game & reach will be too much for him. i see it going the distance as most flyweight fights do.
i hope hooker can pull off the upset and time a knee or just land a heavy shot and destroy gamrot on the ground after to a tko. no hate on gamrot, he’s just boring to me and i don’t see him beating islam or ever being champion. i don’t see dan doing so either, but there’s more fun matchups for him at the top than there are gamrot, lest we forget how phenomenal the porier fight was.
i think big boy (rozenstruick) is a much cleaner fighter than tai and a better kickboxer, but i think that’s what might get him in trouble. when he got ko’d by francis it was because francis rushed him with looping shots and he panicked and froze, i could see the same happening against tai. i really want tai to win being that he’s on a 4 fight loss streak and it’s in australia, tai getting cut would suck.
all in all, a pretty decent card that i’m excited to watch. sad that leech wasn’t in the presser and didn’t get to wear his suit once again. i hope he can get a win too but, coming off of back surgery and a long lay off is a bit weary.
all of that aside, 307 main card just got announced today and boy… it’s a lot better than i thought it would be. pereira vs roundtree… roundtree doesn’t deserve it honestly, it should be ankelov but nobody wants to see alex lose or get taken down over and over. not saying he couldn’t or wouldn’t win, but it’s a scary matchup. ankelov blew it by saying he would only fight alex in abu dhabi, you don’t call the shots as contender.. especially against arguably the biggest star in the sport right now. alex vs roundtree will be super fun. pennington vs pena is… a fight that will happen… holland vs dolidze is sick, i think holland will get another ko and move into the top 10. and finally, wonderboy vs buckley is fucking sick and i can not wait. all in all, the rest of the year looks great for the ufc and we don’t even know what 309 and 310 will be, 309 probably going to be jones vs stipe obviously (why) but the undercard should be great being that it’s at msg. 310 will be great too, last card of the year always delivers. i can’t wait.
