skating canvas

anyone else stupid enough to continuously skate canvas sneakers? What are some of your best experiences? What about the worst? Any recommendations for extended the life of a canvas shoe?

Superglue and a piece of duct tape inside of the shoe where it would tear through.

they skate good but get holes in them way faster than suede.

I use multiple layers of small strips of duct tape for canvas shoes and have never been disappointed

Duct tape on the inside and shoe goo on the outside. Is there a reason you are skating canvas shoes?

You guys are idiots. The way to do it is put a little on before you start skating them, and occasionally add more as it wears off.

had two pairs of the campy in canvas! lasted me over a month, sole was still pretty stable. but i gotta say i am not too hard on the upper of a shoe, and a little superglue after every session or two did the job!

I think in one of Chima ferguson's interviews (probably a couple of years old), he states that the reason he prefers skating canvas so much is because the upper holds its shape on your foot way better over time than suede does (won't get floppy/rippley with sweat).

I would just skate the shoe as is for a sesh or 2 in order to see where the biggest target areas for abrasions are (while not making any huge holes), then just shoe goo that shit.

well as i stated above i just don't usually go through the upper of a shoe....i mostly seem to have griptape contact with the side part of the sole but rarely the sidewall. if i do heelflip i grip on the collar of the shoes mostly, but doing ollies i don't rip too much of the sidewall. if you superglue the shoe where you rub through it early you can have it way longer!

Done the same. I had some Etnies Jameson Eco's that lasted for ever with that method. Looks ugly as sin... but so what... its skateboarding.

I've been messing around with liquid tape, it has a rubber finish, kind of like apple headphone cords, it held up pretty well on the toe, but i didn't cover the ollie patch that well.

also seeing how it works just to plug a whole, cause I hate skating with a big glob of goo on my shoe.

anyone ever try scotchguard on canvas? My old roommate use to do it to suede, shoes held up, but i argue that it made the suede more stiff.

looks like you dipped your shoe in crusty old toothpaste, but not a bad idea.

Superglue is good as precaution to skating in canvas it hardens and sinks into the material so it's not all lumpy like shoe goo.

One time, I straight up tried sewing a patch onto mines. Cut off a strap on some dunks and half-back stitched it in. Kind of a lot of work, but it functions decently. I had to shoe goo the exposed stitching though.

Shoe goo with ice....get something with a rubber toe cap....I've skated some Huf classics and converse and yes...side wore out quicker but toes were good...and they were cheap.....good canvas beats bad suede?

Yes, because canvas is the only cruelty free material available on this planet ::)

Never skated canvas shoes, but i'll try sonner or later when i find a cheap pair. I hate when shoes loose shape and that doesnt seem a problem with canvas. I remember the adi-ease and janoskis beeing fairly durable in canvas.

Favorite shoe to skate is the slip-on.
Just gotta give it some love after every other session with shoegoo.
They probably wont last as long, but that board feel is amazing!

I skate van's old schools all the time. I take a small black piece of electrical tape and place it over the part of the shoe that gets a hole in it and then i cover the piece of tape with super glue. It works great and you can even notice the tape since its black and blends in with the shoe. its a lot cleaner and cheaper than shoe goo. Been doing this for almost a decade now

I prefer skating canvas shoes because they keep their shape longer and don't pack out. Try this to make them last longer, you won't be disappointed. Take a small radial tire patch and cut a bit off of it and super glue it (adhesive side down) to where you experience the most wear and tear. Normally this is around the "ollie" spot. It will probably stick out a little bit from the outsole but can easily be sanded down to meet the outsole flush. BOOM. Now you have a rubber ollie patch and it will add weeks to the life of the canvas shoe and it looks way better than shoe goo.

I tend to do this on classic Chuck Taylors I find at Marshalls on clearance for 20 bucks and the ollie patch + toecap they LAST.

I'll post a photo soon.

longest lasting canvas shoe I ever skated was a canvas Adi-Ease... the sole/foxing is positioned well enough that it takes a bit to even hit the actual sidewalls of the shoe (i.e. the canvas).

Not sure if my knee injury or they're really good but these lasted me a while. Just swap out the insole and bam!

This is what I usually do with my canvas shoes, made a post about it when I used to blog. Throw a piece of suede on the inside, it's the cleanest looking method and surprisingly doesn't feel uncomfortable. If you're a vegan, you can use a thick patch of canvas on the inside instead of suede. I have a vegan friend who uses this method and he actually makes his own inside patches with several layers of canvas bonded together with Shoe Goo for strength.
