Andrew Reynolds and Lead Designer Jeff Mikut sit down with David Bluetile to talk Reynolds 933 footwear design and inspiration at the New Balance headquarters in LA.
[close]

This is definitely worth the 27 minutes and 39 seconds. It was also reassuring to hear that he didn't like the skate-specific insoles that come with Half Cabs, and would replace them with something else.
[close]

At about 17:24, Jeff talks about the 933 being the lightest shoe they've made. I assume he's saying that in comparison to the other NB# cupsoles. So I had to bust out the food scale to confirm.

hahaha, that's the type of nerding out we need!

There is a pic out there from when he first signed with them of all the insane combos he made just to skate them.

damn, not in the spirit of this thread, or the moment, but i’d like that info re: making half cabs survivable. they look and skate great

Slide 4 shows scale of thickness between 440v2 and 1010. Cool cutaway too, not sure if sample or final
[close]

I’m surprised the Reynolds isn’t further right on the cushion scale. The 1010 isn’t really as cushioned as it looks - the Emerica Reynolds low felt softer to me. The midsole unit in the new shoe looks huge. Fake runner like the 420?
[close]

I concur. Seeing that its slightly thinner than a 1010 has me intrigued
[close]
Could be that is thinner but unlike 1010 the 933 has mostly Abzorb right? Maybe with less Abzorb you get more cushioning than with more Fuelcell.
[close]

I’ve skated in the 933 for a couple days now. Feels noticeably thicker / more cushioned than the 1010 with less board feel than the 1010. But I’ve been digging it. Or I should say, my old man feet and knees have been digging it.
[close]

LESS board feel than the 1010? Damn. Love the 1010's but was hoping for basically a slightly-thinner 1010
[close]
Tom Knox thinks you should check out the 600 then  8)

God bless the 600. I thought the 440v1 was the best shoe ever, but then I tried the 600. Basically all I need.

The Jeff Mikut stuff was great.   It’s what I wanted to hear more of: design nerd stuff.  I kinda know Reynolds shoe story by now, but there was still a lot of good, new things in there from him

Why the hell didn't they mic anyone up properly?!

Excellent catch. That's the colorway I want. Hopefully it's gum on the bottom too.

Came here to post this. He's a good reviewer once you look past the "yapping". I was worried that they'd be like the 808s and have no bounce to them, but they aren't.

Out of curiosity how much are the 1010s in the U.S? They retail to the equivalent of $130 usd here in Aus so just trying to workout how much the Reynolds will be as a comparison

And the price is frequently mentioned on here and has been for several months

Appears the 933s come with lace options:

Black/Green come with white and black
Brown come with white and green (matches the olive color of the mesh)
