Might be a stupid question, so feel free to kook me.

First time NB# 440 owner here. I was all of my life on Vulc shoes with ankle braces and this is my first cupsole shoe ever.

How long does it take to break the 440 (low) in? Any recommendations? Only wearing them inside my apartment for a few weeks now.

was a 20+ year volc guy until early this year when i tried 440 lows and will never look back. been through multiple pairs now and I find the break in period is non existent, they feel perfect right out the box for me.

Same here, 440 are ready to go straight from the box imo.

I don't know why people want shoes that are ready to go straight out the box. I get not wanting to take forever to break in but shoes that are good straight out the box is a red flag that it'll also go out prematurely too.

I get what you’re saying, and most shoes dont take particularly long to get to the point of comfortable skateability, but slippery soles on new shoes is yuck.

That said, I popped on my ill fitting 808’s (the ones I modified) and the sole’s were exceptionally grippy out of the box. It has to be said, New Balance makes the most well crafted shoe I’ve ever put on my feet. Everything from the stitching to the materials is top quality.

I say this as a huge DC fanboy at this current time.

Anybody had this issue?
It doesn't affect functionally but still kinda sucks

same here

but for me best way to break in shoes is to push around both stances for a few hours

That looks like a manufacturing defect unless you stepped on something sharp. You might be able to get some sort of help from New Balance if you write them?

@rothdigga it's so dope you're on here, super responsive, and helpful. Thank you.

Definitely got me as a customer for life.

Granted, I'm in Japan, but FWIW, I've had nothing but positive experiences with NB in Japan as well.

***Edit: Would you be able to work your magic to get the same Grey Days released here this year? Hahaha.

Japan is tough, I work with them regularly but they don't get the same specials as we do here.  They tend to order a much more narrow range of products and it's hard to get the off-timeline stuff like we have here in the States.  But I'm trying!

Anyone have any insight on where it would be possible to find the 1st colorway? Titus doesn’t seem to ship to the US.

@rothdigga hahaha, no worries! I'll just try to order a pair and get them sent to a friend back home or I'll try to time a trip back home to coincide with the drop!

Can someone might point me in the right direction sizing wise, for the 272?

I tried 508 and 306 in a US 7 and 7.5 both had too much room in the toes for me. The 440 in a US 7.5 fit good.

+1 with rhis question, i read the first release review on weartested that they ran a bit longer than usual numeric vulc sizing (255, 306 etc).

If you are talking about the black ones with a clear blue-ish sole similar to the forthcoming 808 colorway check Depop, Grailed, etc. I found a dude selling a pair brand new and copped em.

Ahhhh right.  I forgot that Europe did a re-stock of that shoe since they basically missed the boat the first time around.  I do NOT have those coming back for the US but you never know, we may throw them back in at some point like we did the NM1010TR (Beef/broccoli).  As of now, I don't have them in the plan though, sorry!

How are 1010s just as a daily shoe? Got a trip coming up with a lot of walking and figured I’d just cop a pair of new balances to pull double duty.
