I want to try the 440’s but I found the Reynolds 480’s very uncomfortable.
[close]
440v2 are probably the most comfy NB# for me. My Reynolds 480 were also not comfortable at all.
[close]

Oh now that’s good to hear. I am tempted to order a pair…

i'll echo the 440 (for me - both og and v2 versions (both high and low)) as the most comfortable of the #NB line (including the Tiagos - again, for me).

in fact, the 440 might has slow burned it's way to #1 in my current fav/most comfortable shoe to skate in during the last 4 years.  i still skate buz pros, the og adidas skate copas, and blazer mids here are there... but the 440s are the current BEST skate shoe out there right now (for me)

Just wondering what the 480 highs fit like and if they're comparable to 440 V1s? I'm not able to try on the 480s, as buying online, but have a couple of pairs of high and low 440 V1s which fit perfectly in US 11.5 and was hoping the 480s are comparable fit.

I was a 440 Hi person for the last 4 years and switched to the 480 high.  They do take a quick second to break in but they're pretty nice once you get used to the thicker sole.  For me at 52, I kind of like the stiffer and thicker sole.
[close]

No love for the 600? I'm not on the internet much but don't see many pros using the 600. It seems almost all are 440, 480, some Tiagos tossed in.
[close]

600 looks and fits great with nice board feel, but I didn't find them to anything super special over other [technical] shoes in the line-up (or offered elsehwere).

Damn fine looking shoe tho.

1010, 808, 440, 480 seem to be the line-up...I never see people in Westgates, Foys or Villanis (I'm sure they keep selling or they woulnd't keep making'em).

You and I on that same shit. I could live the rest of my skate life with only those 4 models as an option. I’ve heard the franky’s have some unfortunate design flaws, and looking at the stitch locations in the Ollie area of the upper, I can imagine a lot of bagging out on the sides. I own a few pairs, but haven’t skated them yet. They also don’t exactly fit me tts.

600 felt similar to the 440 to me fwiw.

Yeah, 600 or 440(v2) could swing either way tbh, both great shoes but there isn't anything HOLYSHITWOW about them (like say the 1010 or 808); the 2E/wide/synthetic 440v2, should become a mainstay. Checks a lot of boxes.

A slightly beefier 600 or 25% scaled back 1010 would be my sweetspot.

440V2 is easily best in class. 1010/808 are in a class by themselves.

The 600 is exactly what I wanted the 440v2 to be in terms of marginally thicker midsole and overall feel. The heel is slightly more secure to me and it's a razor thin edge mostly decided by the 600 supporting Knox and the colorways have been pretty nice for the most part. The white 440v2 I've seen have an off white hue to the mesh that is fine, but I don't love, and I haven't loved the black and white colorways as much.

I think both models have something over other brands. They're thin cup soles that have uppers that don't bag out and they last really long with consistent flick and grip the entire time. They definitely last longer and although the midsole is basically nonexistent they skate better for me than lots of other current cups. Sambas were thin, but terrible durability, Tyshawn's were fine but I didn't love the look of the chunky sole, I've not liked any Sole Tech offerings I've tried recently (Figgy, Reynolds 3, and the KSL), and haven't messed with Lakai recently. Crockett Lows and highs skated well but had horrible durability and I hate the Vans insoles. I know people like some other newer Vans, but the appearance just isn't for me. Somehow the heel protection is worse for me with PopCush than a minimal NB with a FP or whatever brand insole I randomly choose.

I fucking hated the 480 and 800, never again. Love the look of the 480 and wear them as civilian shoes. 1010 are realllllly nice, but I didn't skate all that great in them. I'd skate them again in the future.

Skating the 600's now. Really enjoying them. Huge 440 fan. It's what got me into NB shoes. I couldn't get into the 1010's as well. They didn't have the same flick as the 440 and 480. But man they felt good on the feet. The 480's are probably #2 after the 440. Once they are really broken in they feel really good. It's hard to look at other brands and think they are going to skate better than the handful of shoes NB is offering. I'm really digging "thin" cupsoles. I've tried dunks, atlantics, telfords, and the ishods 1 and 2(those are glorified "cupsoles"). Nothing skates like what NB is putting out. I've been looking at the AS1 and the fastbreak.

480's are really good. I used to swear by vulcs because no cup had the same flick as a vulc. But the 440 and 480 come close. The only issue is breaking them in. But if you like the 808's. You wont have an issue with stiffness or boardfeel. I couldn't get into the 808's. TOO STIFF! But just like a lot of people are saying is the sizing is weird on the 480. I could go around any brand and buy a 9 and suffice. Roomy but not to loose. But I skated some 306's in size 9 and no mater how high I laced them up and tight I tied them My heel kept slipping out. But then the next pair of NB's I had were the 440 and I got them in a half size down. Snug fit on the 440's. And I kept the same sizing on NB's for other shoes. The 1010's, 480's, 600's and the 440v2's. My skate shop sucks but I try on shoes there and then order them from ccs, tactics, zumiez, or another place that has a deal on them. I don't fuck with hi's so I can't speak on that.

Not sure what the consensus is but heel slip is something I've had to deal with more or less with all of my NBs, more than any other shoe brand I've ever owned iirc. It often gets better when shoe breaks in or is minimal so I dont pay attention to it but it is there and with every pair despite the model. I just usually tie my laces with the heel lock method to solve the problem but I only use it with NBs nonetheless. Funnily these black 808s have been one of the only pairs where I dont have it.

If you like 808 you'll love 480, go for it.
Only think worth mentioning is that the Reynolds one were pretty uncomfortable (haven't wear them that much so they're still there pretty much new) but the 303 collab was super comfy straight away. Weird.

The AS-1 is 'ok' it's nothing like a 480 or Dunk, contrary to how it looks, good shoe. Fastbreaks are the Cons '440' except they're super thin in the upper (the nylon ones); basic, thin minimal impact/padding (and not very $ these days).

I just can't get my feet to be friends with the 480 comfortably. Something's off. Plus the boardfeel is not there for me. Hence, I'm not even gonna try the 808 or 1010, as I've learned that I'm definitely not a bulky shoe guy.

440v1 and 600 are among the best shoes I've ever skated, if not THE.

Looking forward to try the 440v2. As a thin cupsole guy, should I be worried about possible added bulkiness on the v2 vs the original 440?

The bulk added, if any, is perfect.

Got a pair of 272, I always like to have a black/white pair and it was the only one available.

Initially I thought that they weren't comfortable as the 440 v1 but after a few days I really like them even if they're a little bit heavier.

All materials are top notch and far beyond any vulc pair I ever had.

Like Dunks every color way of the 480s fit a little different, but I’m a weird foot size that falls right between 8.5 and 9. For the most part though I wear a 8.5 in 480s and Dunks.

After riding cupsoles for a long time, at New Balance, i have already ridden the 508 twice, but these shoes are too low for my ankle, and I find them very hard. Forced to put another insoles inside. I finally chose (and took the risk) to buy the 306 Jamie Foy ! I find them magnificent, and I have read a lot of opinions to the effect that it was a vulc, but that for a vulc, it protected very well. I even wonder if they wouldn't protect better than the 508.. They seem higher on the ankle and achilles tendon. And since I have orthotic insoles, I think it would help with the vulcs! Your opinions ? ;D

Can we get some insight on the improved fit for the 417 low?

(Franky is my favorite skater and want to support him but the mids has such a weird feeling to them)

Man the 417s killed my toes in my usual size. That canvas is brutal. Half size up was way too big. Gave them away to a homie and his feet also got destroyed.

I had the same exact experience. They brutalized my toes while still feeling too loose. It seems to fit people with short, stumpy feet.

I agree, I was not a fan of the use of canvas on the toe box. the 417 is the shoe that made me feel like all my toes are twisted up. It also gave me this weird feeling that I am literally flicking with my toes and not the sole/toe box of the shoe, Franky still the best doe lol

Bout to pull the trigger on a pair of 440 v2 hi. The first version of the high top I wore an 11.5 and a 12 in the lows. Can the same be said about the v2’s? I can always return em if the fit is off but would rather get it right the first time

Have no idea about sizing at this point, because the v2 fit me super snug in the toes after I loved the v1. I wear all new balance MIUSA, 2002R, MIUK, etc in the same size and the v2 is short.

I float between a 11.5 and 12 (due to having wide feet). I skate the 440 V1 in 12 and they fit well ( a tad roomy). Have some V2 Highs on the way in a 12. I'l let you know how they fit. I should prob get them in a day or two.
