Haha no! I’m not that superstitious. They just felt too grippy, and the fall made me laugh/didn’t hurt. Stupid No Comply 180 that I can land 90% of the time. But my front foot wasn’t sliding at all. Got it to work, but figured it was a sign to retire these cause the grip felt insane.

Again, I’m not complaining. Just thought it was funny. Was one of those, “WTF, is going on here?” moments 😀

Makes sense and thanks for typing all that out to explain. I am happy to hear they are grippy, eyeing them next.

No problem! They’re still my favorite shoe. Tons of protection and grip. I’ve just been wearing the white/black ones non-stop since February. So I was gonna retire them soon anyway. Today’s session just sped up that process.

The white/black 480s were the first NB# shoe that felt a bit off for me. Coming from 440 v1 and 600, they felt bulky as heck. Was looking forward to the extra protection/padding, but somehow my feet started to hurt more than with the aforementioned shoes. And the boardfeel felt significantly worse.

Currently sidelining them, but might give them another shot with a different/thinner insole from an old NB# shoe, as someone here suggested.

A pair of puig indoors. I think I stepped on the board and knew immediately they weren't it. Went to the skate shop and bought some blazer GT's. This was before I got on to cupsoles.
We rode 7.5's" and didn't complain.

Tongues not staying centered.
Laces coming untied too easily.
Sweat through a suede shoe and when it dried the materials looked all weird on half the shoe.
I rode the same shoe for a while, just got tired of them one day and went and bought something new.

If I roll an ankle in a shoe its going right to the trash.

On the other end if I land something that I am extremely hyped on I might retire the as well On some "I'll probably never do a better trick than that in these"

Really hope my sarcasm-meter is off today, because that's some of the dumbest shit I've read on hear in a while.

Do you mount/bronze it or some shit? Do you also stop riding the board and make it a wall hanger because the board was involved as well? with a plaque that reads: "landed a decent kickflip 05/28/24"

I'm not talking mediocre tricks. I have a pair of Janoskis in the garage from a session where I KF back smithed a 10 rail. Not bronzed or mounted, just in a plastic bin.

I also did't pay for product from like 06-22 so it was a lot easier to finish a session and be like "yup those are done". And yes I do have boards in the garage that I landed meaningful tricks on or skated on memorable trips.

Slap has reached a new low in quality. I've noticed you have profuse praise for the 480, which I have never skated, but been skeptical about due to how they felt when I tried them on. In going through this thread and clicking 'show posts' so I could get some background about your reviews from your skating, was able to conclude that most of your skating is casual rolling around with basic tricks that don't require popping or flicking. Given that I pop and flick my board, details about how shoes flick and last would color my reviews and lead me to find yours a bit inconclusive for my needs. Its a bit misleading seeing all this commentary and thinking "OK this shoe is great" or now "These are too grippy maybe" when it seems like its not the shoe its the rider in this case.

I rolled my ankle months ago in a fucking joke with some 754 and can't see them now. I'll put them in Vinted for nothing.

Hanging the board, when it's toast, in a garage or some shit, maybe I can get behind but not a freshie the trick is landed on.

Do you just run out and buy another of the same shit you just shelved (because it's  THAT GOOD)? Or simply one off it and get other gear that might not live up to what you just trophied? If you don't what's so special about THOSE shoes? Huh? Skill+luck let you land it not the fucking shoes.

Medicore, amazing, whatever, hoarding shoes specifically, because you landed a trick, is fucking stupid. They're shoes.

These aren't your world champion title fight boxing gloves you hang in your own gym open to the public.

Been that way for years my dude...this place buys into hype / has jock brand mentality to toxic levels...you ride nike instead of last resort? Keep it poor, stay core, so I'mma kook you. You're still riding indy even after BOBBY switched, fuck you. =D

Reynolds has his name on it? Must be fucking amaze balls cuz he's the boss...peopel glaze over how narrow that midfoot is (too the point of causing pain but that's on the buyer, everything works for someones janky ass foot ;)

Keep on with the kooking you little cokholsters, I want you to feel really good when you do it. Make me feel special.

Again. I didn’t buy boards, wheels or shoes for almost 20 years. It wasn’t every trick I landed, just ones that seemed special in the moment.

Not sure what has you so spun up over what someone else does? We’re literally talking about maybe 6 pairs of shoes over 25 years.

The other hundreds of pairs of shoes either went in the trash or to groms or homies that needed them.

I also retired a pair of air max’s I was wearing when I got the phone call my grandfather passed away.

Your same sentiment toward shoes could be implemented to any collectible that people are interested in. Like someone’s first college home run ball. It’s just a baseball and you’ll hit more home runs.

[close]

Tongues not staying centered.
Laces coming untied too easily.
Sweat through a suede shoe and when it dried the materials looked all weird on half the shoe.
I rode the same shoe for a while, just got tired of them one day and went and bought something new.

I was gonna reply that laces could be swapped but then I saw that you got your stuff for free, that explains a lot. I agree with Xen that NB midfoot is too narrow on many models but that doesnt mean y'all NB fans (me included) are sheeple. 1010 is an amazing shoe and the 508 would be too besides the narrow midfoot issue. Never had such well-ventilated cupsole before.

Sorry to derail whatever the fuck is happening in this thread of late but the NB480 high in the black colorway we were looking for late-May; was it the Natas and only the Natas or is there another black colorway still coming out?
[close]
Nope. They come out Friday in shops and Monday on NB’s site: https://www.newbalance.com/pd/nb-numeric-480-high/NM480HV1-45867.html

Stoked on these

Wait, are you retiring shoes if you had a slam while wearing them?

I’ve retired shoes for far less.

roll an ankle = that pair goes bye-bye
[close]

If I roll an ankle in a shoe its going right to the trash.

On the other end if I land something that I am extremely hyped on I might retire them as well On some "I'll probably never do a better trick than that in these"
[close]

Really hope my sarcasm-meter is off today, because that's some of the dumbest shit I've read on hear in a while.

Do you mount/bronze it or some shit? Do you also stop riding the board and make it a wall hanger because the board was involved as well? with a plaque that reads: "landed a decent kickflip 05/28/24"
[close]

I'm not talking mediocre tricks. I have a pair of Janoskis in the garage from a session where I KF back smithed a 10 rail. Not bronzed or mounted, just in a plastic bin.

I also did't pay for product from like 06-22 so it was a lot easier to finish a session and be like "yup those are done". And yes I do have boards in the garage that I landed meaningful tricks on or skated on memorable trips.
[close]

Hanging the board, when it's toast, in a garage or some shit, maybe I can get behind but not a freshie the trick is landed on.

Do you just run out and buy another of the same shit you just shelved (because it's  THAT GOOD)? Or simply one off it and get other gear that might not live up to what you just trophied? If you don't what's so special about THOSE shoes? Huh? Skill+luck let you land it not the fucking shoes.

Medicore, amazing, whatever, hoarding shoes specifically, because you landed a trick, is fucking stupid. They're shoes.
[close]

He's never kf back smithed a 10 rail and is just having a hard time accepting that, and understanding all of the implications of doing something memorable.

Nope, and chances are, neither have you. But if I did, I certianly wouldn't shelve the gear I did it in and use them as fucking trophies, I would continue to feel empowered and keep skating that shit in hopes of doing more cool shit rather than starting over.

I still want to know, people that do that shit, do you go out an buy the same gear and skate it again? Like say you switch nollie heel krook a 10, do you bronze those indys (because it was grind) and then go out and buy and identical pair of indys? If those shoes were so special, do you get another, identical pair? Same colorway, etc?

Xen going full heel, and changing the avatar over a meltdown was not on my radar.

Which btw.. it’s hilarious to see you cry about getting kooked when it was literally one kook from me over you acting like an asshole for no good reason.

Pretty sure I didn't kook you? Are you assuming that because I'm in the thread when you are? There are other posts that you/we all make that might get someone keyboard warrioring?

Gnars and kooks are the lamest thing on the forum, people are hellbent on it (fools even make new accounts because it is so important to them (we see you), everyone please, feel free to kook me ot the negatives, I really don't care. At all. I get kooked when I don't even post; imagine getting hard over kooking someone.

Bronze shoe icon is KILLING it and you know it. Shit is hilarious. Just like shelving gear based on a successful trick. It's equally dumb as fck and that's the point (you just missed it).

Anyway, back to NB# shoes used for skating instead of trophies.
