browsing the nb website for non skate shoes I came across the Allerdales, these would go pretty hard if redone as numerics

[close]

Kinda reminds me of the Keenan DVS pro models, different sole and I’d skate the fuck outta those

I don’t think the New Balance Numeric Nursing Home is the move, even with a sole swap. You’re right on that early DVS vibe though. I had some white leather DVS’s that I destroyed in about two sessions back in the day, maybe that’s why I’m not into these.

I bought the 933s in black/olive and got to a proper session on them. I had to settle for the regular width as the wides didn't reach Europe. They're still definitely on the wider side of all the cupsole offerings that I've tried. Etnies Joslins were my previous go-to and I had to use a stretcher on them for a few nights before I could skate them. The 933s felt much better in terms of width right out the gate without any doohickery.

My history has been mostly with Sole Tech cupsoles for the past 20+ years with the occasional pair of Vans here and a DC there. This shoe has the feel and comfort that I remember from my favorite pairs dating back 15-20 years before anorexia hit the shoe scene. The sole might be a little bit thicker than I would need, but I'm sure I'll take that back once they break in. The grip is also better than what I've grown to expect from a cupsole.

While this might be the best shoe that I've skated in ages, the heel slip is driving me nuts. It's already been mentioned here how people are analysing every little detail of this shoe, but I didn't even know it was a thing before skating in these. I don't recall ever feeling like my heel wants to pop out of the shoe mid-push. I'm wearing my usual size and at what I would consider an average tightness on the laces. I even stooped as low as trying the runner style heel lock lacing and going a lot tighter than usual, but that's only enough to keep my heel halfway in. I didn't even think of looking out for this while trying them on since it never happened to me before.
After taking out the insoles and taking a closer look at the heel, there seems to be some sort of formed heel counter (yes, I had to google that) in there, but it sits so low that I can only feel it if I try wearing the shoe without an insole. And while my feet might resemble those of a hobbit in width, I swear they're not equally deformed around the heel. The slipping seems odd as I don't recall any of the previous Reynolds shoes having anything similar.

I'm hoping I might adjust to it but it's tough when you foot is trying to fuck of while you're launching an ankle high nollie flip. I'm even prepared for desperate measures like trying out a heel gripper (yes, googled that too), but it would of course be easier if the heel was shaped just a little bit different to begin with.

Is the heel slip just on account of the sole being stiffer so it doesn’t flex with your foots natural movement?

I noticed it at first, but as the shoe broke in, I noticed it less

Heel slip happened to me with 808 at first then went away after some sessions. With 1010, for me, is a more persistent issue. With 933 it lasted probably only for the first 2 sessions.

That’s interesting. - never had an issue with 1010s

All this thread really tells me is the challenge it must be to create a shoe to fit a mono-foot and how amazing it is (or how fortunate I am) that they usually fit

I'm glad I'm not crazy. I wore them once as chillers and the heel slip made me not even want to try skating them

The heel slip on the 933 is definitely real. It’s My only real issue. They seem to run a little long. I had to lace em all the way up too. Maybe eventually they’ll add more padding to the heel to stop it from slipping.

The slight amount of heel slip I had in both pairs of reynolds I have went away when they eventually broke in (took quite a while). I think once the shoe becomes a bit more flexible it makes it much less of an issue.

But for me personally it wasn't a huge deal to begin with, I got noticeably more heel slip in 440s and 480s. 1010s too but thats only for a session or two at most and then its gone

These saved my arse. I havent had much time to skate lately and I got very sore after first 30 mins of skating thinner shoes. Put these on and was able to skate for an hour more.

I believe the next two are in mid-July.   But the lighter pair is in the drop after that

How's the fit on the 808 lite compared to 808? The 808 I had to size up half a size compared to 1010, 933, 440 & 480. Also thinking of the 600. How's the fit of those compared to 808, 933, 1010, 440 & 480?

Tts for me on 600 alongside 933, 1010, 440 and 480.
On 808 I had to size up .5 but tts was still manageable for me.

I have the og 808 and 808 lite and they’re the exact same length in 10.5. So I would stick with whatever size you were in the og 808

I've really enjoyed skating my these NB 440's (first NB ever skated), and was thinking of trying the 600's.

Are they pretty similar? Or any other shoes like the 440's that have the same fit and feel?

600 is thicker and more blocky if that makes sense. the 306 is closer to a 440v2 than a 480 or 600 would be.

The 600 is among the best skate shoes ever made. They're not a giant leap from the 440, but the leap is for the better. More protection while retaining good board feel. I've skated several pairs of both and prefer the 600 in the long run.

From all the languages my man choose to speak the truth.
But yes, 440v2 are an amazing shoe and 600 is an upgrade in every possible way (except the lack of a high versión) without being that different.

I've always found Westgates shoe to be pre simple but chill looking shoes. I don't think they ever caught on as much as other shoes but are any good? The sale prices make it so easy to just try out.

We stopped carrying the 508 as it didn't sell very well. Personally I have fat toes and the 440 was a squeeze and 508 felt really compressed. It also felt thinner and didn't last as long. We used to have a lot of customers buy them that were coming from thinner vulcs, but most people seem to prefer the 440 or go with Adidas instead.

I really like the 600 although the heel is really strange for me and tends to bulb out/fold over. If you're not beholden to NB we love the new Tyshawn.

They're a good, solid shoe. No frills. And look really good. The white leather pair I skated a year ago or so served me well. I mean, Westgate still skates them, if that tells you anything.
