The Reynolds 933 fits pretty much perfect in a 12, while 440 V1 was 11.5 for me. The 12 was too loose, but the 11.5 was almost too narrow and tight throughout the whole shoe. Is the 440 V2 any better in terms of fit or is it pretty close to V1?

I'd go for 12 on the 440v2 for you. They feel a tiny bit snuggier than the V1.

I've never been a high-top skater but my ankles are sensitive ass little bitch babies these days. Not so much with impact or rolling, but with deck checks into the ankle bone.

Anyone with hands on experience with the 440 v2 Highs and the 480 Highs able to compare them?
[close]
Jumping on this wagon but regarding how the heel feels on the 480 high regarding lows.
[close]
I have the 480 highs and lows and the 440v2 highs. I've only skated the high top versions of both shoes so far though. I would recommend the 440v2s if you're more used to vulcs or thinner cupsoles and you're looking for something similar. The 480 highs are way bulkier everywhere, mainly the sole and the ankle padding. That could also be a positive thing if you're looking for something more supportive and don't care as much about the boardfeel. I run my 440v2s with Superfeet insoles now, or else they'd be too thin for my liking, but the 480 highs with the stock insoles was enough padding for me. 440v2s also have a pointier toe, while the 480s have a wider, more bulbous toe if that makes sense.

@moonordie Are you asking about the heel slip on the 480 lows? If so, it's non-existent on the high tops. And while the heel is definitely more raised than the 440v2s, it's not a difference that I think would contribute to any ankle rolls.

tldr: These two shoes are pretty different overall and I would base your purchase on how thick of a shoe you're looking for.

So my 933 are almost 3 months old and they are still going strong (switch foot, pretty much non existent flick).
As you can see they're some tricks (mainly sw backside 180 me nollie frontisde 180) that rip a very specific spot on the shoe for me.
It doesn't affect performance at all but bothers me greatly for obvious reasons.
Just wanted to show that if this happened to you a cutter knife is a good solution.

I've always loved a thinner shoe and even skated classic vans regularly into my late 20s but my body can't really take it anymore and a lot of my time spent skating involves trudging around with a backpack looking at different spots etc.
Currently have some westgates with a slightly nicer insole and really like how they skate but after a long session yesterday I felt like somebody had beat the shit out of my feet with a hammer.
Curious if anybody has experienced switching to the reynolds or tiago shoe from something thinner and noticed less overall back/foot/knee pain. Don't particularly want to skate shoes that bulky but figure it'd be worth it if it can extend my time skating.

Boardfeel is a social construct. The best skating I did was in the Project BA which had a significant midsole and before I was skating things like Blazers & Janoskis. Once you get used to a thicker midsole your feet/body will thank you for not going home defeated.

Yea boardfeel is one thing for sure but I think what trips me up more is just having a size 12 foot and feeling like my feet take up crazy real estate on the board. I'm sure I'll pull the trigger on some tiagos now that I got it stuck in my head, worth a shot.

With this knowledge,  I'd suggest seeking out shoes with adequate midsoles on a more athletic upper to mitigate the "D3" bulk you may feel. Some of these "bulk" cupsoles don't feel that big on the board

NB 808 and 808Lite are athletic, mid-puff shoes that meet this happy medium.  Stiff soles, so they need break in time, usually

NB 1010 are more trim in the upper, yet still have a sturdy sole, and more boardfeel up front (according to most who've tried both). I've only worn them, but never skated them (sadly)

NB 933 seems to take both worlds of 808 and 1010, but is more 808 (to me), since it has such a structured "big" heel design. They are comfy on foot!

Etnies Josl1n and Marana on the Michelin sole are far more trim, but still feel adequately protective. Two of my favorites

Emerica KSL G6, but it's discontinued. Also, the Mute seems like a sturdy option, too.

Es Accel "95" model is a happy medium between puff and slim, while being highly skateable, yet adequately protective

I’ve been skating Westgates all summer. They are very tight in the mid foot for me and I have average to narrow width feet. It usually takes me about 20 minutes to get used to them. Last session I was skating more flat ground than normal and actually had to go change into a different pair of shoes to finish my session. I’m done with them. I have 933’s but I use them as chillers. With how much shoe it is there is no way I could skate them when it’s 90+ and humid outside. Way too hot.  I haven’t skated vulcs in 5-6 years but my son is skating some 306’s and I tried his on and they feel nice. Might pick up a pair next time I’m off.

Your options in order regarding protection:
808, 480, 993, 1010, 440v2, 508
808 are a tank and it was my shoe of choice but look wasn't exactly for me. 480 ankle feels odd for me. Currently on 993 and I love them but after 3 months they feel beat up, 1010 are great if you want a boardfeely while still protecting shoe.

I've just gone through exactly this now I'm 30 and after trying a few different cupsoles I settled on the 600. Almost the same boardfeel and grip as the Last Resorts or Vans I've been skating since I was a kid, but I can skate for hours without feeling anything really.

My black/gum 480 highs get here yesterday. I threw the off white laces from the Brooklyn project 480 highs in there. They look sick.

I really hope this is not the end of the 480 high top. @rothdigga

Not sure what I'll skate if it goes away. Got a pair of dilos but they feel like they're gonna bag out quickly. Maybe grasshoppers but they look super bulky, which would be exaggerated by my skinny ass build.

Could go back to Jordan 1s I guess. But I was beginning to feel like I was getting too old for those shoes. I didn't wanna seems like one of those elderly hype beasts.

Haven't tried them yet, I'm too deep on 933 territory right now and in not too curious to check them since everything I've read is rather discouraging.

The 440 has excellent boardfeel once broken in. A friend of mine that literally still prefers normal Cons got some 440 and 508 and skates both without an insole to break them in and then uses some extremely shitty old paper thin insole in both and likes them. It might take a little bit to get used to it but the grip matches a vulc more or less and you'll get a shoe with better resiliency and stability which matters more later in life.

Wait for Q2 2026 all white 440 highs (finally) coming without a contrasting color N logo.

Nice!   The tan Jason Lee inspired 440s that didn’t have a contrasting N either was one of the best colorways and I thought was going to blow up a lot bigger

Thanks man, I saw Reynolds put some white laces in these when they came out and thought they looked sick. Similar to some of his old emericas.

Personally I think these off white ones look even better.

Looking at the video on there, I’d be surprised.  The N’s look slightly off especially on the inner side, heel tab just has NB and no #, and the sole is just kind of a block with minimal tread.

Yeah everything about it seems like it’s a super fake shoe made to sell at stores over seas that also sell fake ripoffs of other items. Like some temu shit. I’ve heard we’re getting a foy cupsole next year and for sure it’ll look better than this

Did you find that the highs feel any more stable than the lows. I know some of us find that shoe tippy and prone to ankle rolls but if a high solves that I’d be 480 curious once again.

Damn dude those look so good with the white laces. I have a pair of the Chocolate collab 480 highs on ice to skate, but now I'm tempted to go track down a pair of these too...

Thanks man, I saw Reynolds put some white laces in these when they came out and thought they looked sick. Similar to some of his old emericas.

Personally I think these off white ones look even better.

I used shop lurker to find these.

Did you find that the highs feel any more stable than the lows. I know some of us find that shoe tippy and prone to ankle rolls but if a high solves that I’d be 480 curious once again.

Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.
