I think by 53 million 'in debt' he just means that's what he needs to start whatever crazy business ideas he has. I'm betting he's still super rich personally.

Exactly.  It's like how Donald Trump has declared bankruptcy three or four times but still has one of the largest houses in the US and his name on giant buildings in NYC, Atlantic City, and Vegas.  Once you are at that point, If you have any brains, you surround yourself with people smart enough to work the system (accountants, lawyers, etc.).

It's his own marketing scheme..
Make outlandish statements and unbelievable claims.. that are not always true.

Whether is positive or negative light, it's still publicity.. and it's just making him richer.

However, most people don't understand this, and fall prey to his own idiocracy.

his album isn't even for sale. it is baffling that some people actually think he isn't extremely talented. he is without question one of the best producers of all time. also happens to be a complete idiot.

why do you have to like the person? a lot of people hate mj but love his music. is he really one of the best producers...he just has money and works with people that are already big stars doesn't he? many other producers have created big stars. he's like every other mainstream artist. he makes 1-2 good songs and 25 horrible ones. some of the worst songs of alll timeee

Not backing the guy at all, but I do think the thread title is taking this out of context (as well as Kanye not communicating his idea properly).

I am supposing he means that he wants to talk to Mark Z about figuring out a new way to distribute music on FB (or otherwise) that will actually make him $$$. I don't think he was looking to Mark to bail him out.

Well it's regular to buy any cd since you can download everything for free. And you can't argue that The Life of Pablo isn't one of the best albums in a long time

We aren't talking about buying the CD we are talking my about how stupid it is to pay $30 for a Kanye CD.
We're also talking about the fact that a Kanye album either just dropped or is about to. I couldn't tell you any other hip hop albums that came out in the past couple months. I guess Beyonce had one, but I only know that because of her separate controversy. You could say "fuck Kanye West and his new album" and some people will just hear "new Kanye album"

Kanye is a dork, but he seems pretty harmless. He's much less of a piece of shit than like Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, or OJ Simpson.

He's also clearly one of the most talented hip hop artists out right now. The reality is, people would be saying everything he says about himself if he would shut up, be a bit modest, and let them. But since he can't, the goal is to knock him down from his over-the-top arrogance.

The "the kids are safe, Kim is there" is irony right? Kim Kardashian has never been responsible for anything in her life.

I'd start talking about People vs. OJ, but we need a new thread. Between John Travolta's weirdness and David Schwimmer talking about "Uncle Juice" there are endless hilarious things to discuss about that show.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”

i hate the kardashians, but kim seems pretty average...dumb and self centered yes, but probably a caring mother. kanye is manic and has a horrible temper. i don't know why you are comparing him to pedos like woody and roman. i'm saying the kids are safe not being left by themselves with an unstable person like kanye. he obviously has something wrong with him. whether it's mental illness or drugs. he has attacked paparazzi, and often blows up in peoples faces. i wouldn't say he is harmless. he's very irrational and easily upset.

I've not heard a single track from The Life of Pablo, but I can without a shadow of a doubt say that it will NOT be "one of the best albums released in a long time".
I could list about ten albums that have come out in the last 5 years (or ten) that will be better than this album. You could say it's my opinion and you would be right, but my opinion in this case also happens to be fact.

Full Disclosure: I don't know enough about Kanye West to have strong feelings about him one way or the other, but I've heard enough of his music to realise that he can make music, but it's nothing special and certainly hasn't qualified as anywhere near the best of any sort of music. I did quite like Goldigger at one point in time though.

Here are a few albums released in the last 5 years that will definitley be better than TLOP:

NIN - Hesitation Marks
Warpaint - Warpaint.
Django Django - Born Under Saturn
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
The Icarus Line - All Things Under Heaven
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Bring Us Together
M.I.A - Matangi

Oh, and probably that Beck album from 2014.
I'm going to argue that Placebo owes their entire career to a Canadian dude's skate video part. Appleyard should be getting royalties for this shit.

How deliciously ironic, swap a couple of the albums around in your post and it sounds exactly like something Kanye would say.

For what it's worth, there are a large number of people and quite a few music journos out there who'd say Kanye's MBDTF is the best album of the last 5 and a bit years. Not what I'd choose but you could do a lot worse.

I was hoping that arrogance would come across nicely as a little bit of a reference to Kanye ;)
But seriously, I'm sure there are music journo's etc out there who are convinced that his albums / music ranks as one of the best in the last while etc, and yeah art is subjective. I'm not a music nazi of any sort, I think nearly any genre of music is worthy of consideration and praise (apart from perhaps racist/ nazi punk). Let's try "objectively" here though. From the little I've heard of his music I don't think it's a far stretch to state that there will be countless albums of the last X amount of years that are objectively better than a Kanye album, in that they will have one or all of the following:
- Origional melodies
- More unique and less derivative lyrics (that also perhaps deal with a wider range of topics, or perhaps one topic from different angles)
- No auto-tuning
- A good use and amalgamation of all "sounds" the band / person  uses.
- Not resort to cliches ( I suppose I mainly mean lyrically and in terms of subject).

I'm not trying to give guidelines or quantify what constitutes as "good" music, but rather playing devil's advocate and trying to point out that if we were to be objective about an album and music in general there is a strong argument to be made for a Kanye West album NOT being in the top 10 or 20 albums of 5/10/20 years.

I think this is a great topic for debate by the way!

Not a great topic to debate, since like you said, art can't be objectively measured. None of the qualities you mention make music automatically better or worse or somehow more valuable. I've never been much of a Kanye fan at all, but after having to listen through the album a couple of times I have to say that to me it was surprisingly captivating and very different from what I assumed it to be.

I know for sure none of the parameters I mentioned automatically make music better or worse, I just thought it was an interesting idea to consider. I took a about a minute to try and think what would be present in quote unquote GOOD music. But , you bring up a good term ; more valuable. I DO think that some music is more valuable in a way , culturally and artistically. But again, nearly impossible to measure.
I'm going to argue that Placebo owes their entire career to a Canadian dude's skate video part. Appleyard should be getting royalties for this shit.
