And they interviewed irrelevant people and avoided skaters that were actually there.
Fred Durst being the main one.
How do you not at least have a sentence or two from Ray Bones Rodriguez or Alan Gelfland?
Why not talk to later powell riders and the influence/impact the bones brigade had on them?
While I don't agree it sucked, it could have been A lot better.

BB doc wasn't just for skaters.....Mullen went like 20 years without claiming shit.....it wasn't until skateboarding and the skateboarding media started celebrating its roots to appeal its aging audience....

liked that point Grosso made about old skaters moving wood...

Love Lucero....the sobering no BS answers......

I love Rodney, I love Lucero, I love Grosso. But, Rodney claimed a lot. See this Plan B ad from '92:

Also, I doubt he made the ad himself (and it's kind of a joke/ pisstake too with all "removed duct tape from fingers" stuff in there too).

Yeah....those guys always checked with everyone first before running an ad....solely with the intent of informing the customer....skateboarding celebrated Rodney way more than he pumped his own tires.....people ask him questions...he gives answers....not saying though he was any more important to street skating than Gonz....but to me he's never boastful...just accommodating....

Jesus....the bones brigade....this is about the label....I watch shit like this and think there's no excuse for being old and bitter.....

Grosso for me is at his most articulate & sympathetic when he's talking about his own passion for skating. I love when he gets in that mode.

When he gets into ranting/making rules/deciding who's "cool" or "what's allowed" he just sounds like the bitter old out of touch asshole that he is, & his fame has given him the power to even be a bully about it (c'mon - picking on RODNEY? Seriously? The dude who fucking invented skateboarding, is super humble & grateful & would probably blow over if you breathed on him?)

Damn good episode, Rob. And appreciate Lee's relative sobriety on this one - although it sure looks like there's a lotta cans in front of him.:)

Well Grosso do seem to have some self-ironic awareness, when he rants. It's exaggerated, but I can often follow his viewpoints or at least understand where they come from!

Good job no one - your show is truly a blessing!

I agree, plus in most Rodney interviews you see or hear anywhere (like the Ted talks), he always makes sure to mention explicitly that it was others who took what he came up with and pushed it to farther levels than he could have himself. He always shares the credit. After all, it's not like he anointed himself "the godfather of street skating". Phelps slightly mocks him about it in this:

Maybe Grosso is just concerned with how his own generation of skaters is represented when it comes to the doc (i.e. "it wasn't all about the bones brigade" or "it should be more lance").

The thing that resonated with me the most was when he said there are a lot of dudes now who skate now who wouldn't have back in the day. I feel like that is totally true. You get way more cool kids and legitimately gifted athletes these days. I don't really know how I feel about that.

My city is running skate camps this summer and my son wants to join. I keep telling my wife that we should leave skateboarding for him so he can turn to it on his own accord if life fails him. Maybe skating isn't like that anymore?

This couldn't be farther from the truth. In fact, he SPECIFICALLY says in the interview "It's not THE truth, it's MY truth".

I did the same thing and was wondering exactly the same. Also a bunch of parts missing from the Ride Channel Weekend Buzz playlist, which are on YouTube though.

And these Grosso & Lucero episodes were fucking brilliant. Made me want to buy a Black Label deck next. They're not very widely available over here though, so might be tricky, but I'll have to see what can be done when the time comes to buy a new deck.
