Windows/Linux and not a Laptop: Get a firewire PCI-E card. Firewire and USB aren't compatible you would need an active adapter (which best to my knowledge is not available at least not easily). I have to add that I can't use my FireWire PCI-E card under Windows because there seem to be some conflicts with my AMD graphic cards drivers. If the Firewire card is installed the system has a boot loop. Started happening like 3-5 years ago with a graphics driver update, no Issues with that card under Linux.
With a (modern) laptop you are most likely out of luck.
Has anybody ever tried those Firewire to thunderbolt to usb-c adapter chains in Windows/Linux?
I remember someone posting here that it works with MacOS.

edit2: So apparently someone managed to run a firewire mixer with that chain (https://discourse.ardour.org/t/success-with-thunderbolt-3-to-firewire-adapter/101141). But there is not to much information and a year old unanswered question.

If memory serves, I think that when you remove the bayo from the VX1MK1, the screw size is 82mm. Has anyone ever tried using a bayoring and putting it on an 82mm Opteka fisheye? I'm curious to see how that would look.

Damn I forgot about this. I remember when these were announced. They look pretty sick and can fit most of your gear

I have the theories bag which is a similar setup. the form factor is nice and allows me to where it on top of my other backpack which I use to carry stuff like rubbricks, lacquer, bondo etc.

I got the Theories one, which looks the same. Must say I expected more from it. It is really good for a quick afternoon mission since it only fits maybe 2 extra batteries and a couple tapes. There is no room for a lamp so if you're planning on skating until late this bag wont cut it.

It definitely won't fit any tool, wax, wallet, food or other stuff I carry with me on a full day skating.

Quick two questions about miniDV tapes:

- Does anybody knows what the little little toggle under the tape (with REC and SAVE next to it) ?

- What is the difference between SP and LP mode ? How can I change that, what will that do ? Is LP better than SP or the other way around ?

Thanks for your answer.

little toggle prevents the tape from being recorded on anymore, and LP (long play) reduces the quality to get more footage onto a tape. SP is standard play.

Another important fact I believe is correct; LP recorded tapes don't tend to play correctly in a different camera than what was used to shoot them on.

I had a tale where it'd go fast in parts and the quality was lessened.

Ok thanks, but how can I know if my tapes record in LP or SP mode ? And how can I change that ?

You can't set it on VX1s IIRC, as there is no REC type settings available in the menus. However you can on a VX2/21K as I did it on my first time filming which was on a VX21K. It'll be under the 'TAPE SET' menu > REC MODE > SP or LP

Anyone here ever put silica gel desiccant packets in with their camera gear to prevent moisture from developing/fog on their lens?

Yep - I got several in there, in different parts of the bag. I swap them out every now and then.

When I was still using tapes and it was summer time I'd keep one that was fairly big, that I'd stick in the tape deck as I'd often get the moisture warning when it was really hot and humid. Just got to be careful you don't get it torn putting one inside or those little silica balls will all be up in that piece.

Can someone confirm this for me? What are my camera options to use my MK1 on if my VX1 is toasted. (without buying another VX)

I can't confirm that one (I think the MK2 is 82mm but the MK1 is smaller), but these Universal MK1 adapters just came out yesterday which will save you the hassle of trying to figure out that thread size (for $150...)

Can’t believe MK1’s are going for 3K now, so bonkers. Did that 20 year anniversary release ever happen?

I ended up taking off the bayo on my mk1, and the screw size looked about 75mm. I DM’ed the vx_fisheye_sales IG account asking if they could tell me what the mm size was, but no response. If you ever  find out the exact screw size, please let us know!

After the IG posts telling people to reach out to [email protected] in January (2021), they sent out an email in September saying things were in motion with a link to this website: https://buymk1.com/

And then crickets since then.

I didn't find the screw size either so ended up using this trick:

looking forward to the "universal mk1 adapter". it seems sturdier than my method.

Hi,

I have a problem I can't figure out:

When I got my VX1 about a year and a half ago I was trying to export tapes using another camcorder (TRV11E) but the pictures were all glitchy. I then reached out to VX filmers from my area and one told me to try watching my tapes using my VX1 to figure out if it was the tapes or the camcorder that was fucked up (He told my it was a callibration issue). While watching from the viewfinder the picture was clear so I bought a Firewire cable and two adaptator to export the tapes from my VX to my computer with iMovie. And it worked !!!
But every now and then the "screenrecord" used in iMovie jump and glitch so instead of having like two or three 20 minutes parts for a tapes i have like 30 part that last 0.2 seconds for one line. And because of that parts of tricks and lines are missing.
I'm sorry if it's blurry but I'm struggling to explain it.

I don't know if some of you use iMovie to export tapes.

After all that I was thinking if I should invest in a secondary camera to export tapes but I was wondering if the callibratiion glitches I got will still happen ?

Maybe I should try buying a cleaning tape but I'm a bit lost with all those things.

Thanks for helping me guys !!

I wanted to know for sure, so I bought a digital caliper. On my VX1000 MK1 bayomount lens, when I remove the bayoring, the screw on the MK1 itself is 75mm

Yeah, there's a difference between what people are trying to sell them for, and what people are actually selling them for. If you look at Sold Items on eBay most seem to be around $1500 with a couple exceptions (but none that I've seen over $2500). The insta resellers are a different story though - they seem to keep their prices private unless you're actually serious about buying, but also often have brand new lenses available.

This link popped up via Instagram a while back, asking to enroll via email for notifications on when the MK1 25th anniversary is released.

https://buymk1.com/a/pre-launch

If it does happen, I imagine the 300 lenses they make selling out instantly.

if someone was mechanically inclined they could measure the exact diameters of the mount (and threads if applicable) and pass it off to someone with a 3d printer, seems an easy task.
