the lens unit is linked to some other cards in the camera so changing it needs some software adjusting afterwards. i've tried it anyway and the focus point would move when i zoom.
You can swap the sensor only too. but usually a bad vx1k sensor has some RVB lines on the left of the image. not your problem.
I've had the same problem as you on multiple vxs. even if it's not often present, it becomes worse and worse with time and ends up most of the time glitchy.
I'm still pretty sure your problem is the connection between the cable and the video card. If you wanna make sure, you can reassemble enough to turn it on while still having access to the cable. put it in camera mode and touch the cable. the video should come back when you hold it in a specific position.
you could try swapping only the sensor, not the whole vap unit. but you might have focus problem.
you could solder jumper wires to bypass the plug if you're good at it.
that's the only options i can see.
Because the issue originated after the camera had just been sitting in storage (and it was previously working perfect), I did originally suspect it might be a bad connection or cable. Camera has never had a lens hit or hard impact in it's life with me (over 10 years now). Or maybe even dust got into it somehow.
I will take it apart again, add a battery and see if I can replicate the issue (or get clear video) by playing with that cable. It's the same cable you circled in that image for the other guy, right?
Is it possible to replace just the cable? If so, do you know if this can be ordered on eBay, or does it need to be salvaged off another camera?
When I had it apart previously, it looked like I'd need to take apart a lot of the camera's circuit boards etc. to get access to the other end of the cable (couldn't see where it went).
Thanks for your help
