I’m trying to decide on my next set of trucks coming off Venture Lows - currently between Thunder IKPs or Ace AF1 Hollow IKPs. I skate mostly ledges, curbs, rails and flat.

I skate 149 Stage 11 normally  (159 on a cruiser) so the 151 did seem like the more appropriate size initially. Appreciate the recommendation & answers gents! @moonordie & @Mbrimson88 !!  8)

Are you going with the same width, I am guessing 8 or under?  Or going to change it up and get something wider?

Thunder 147s even with inverted kingpin have so minimal clearance, but they do work better than the regular kingpin versions.  Just make sure it is the solid kingpin, not the hollow kingpin versions.

I still haven't seen or heard anything else about the Ace inverted kingpin, so I am guessing that no one has had issues with them, so that might be a good option if you want to spend a bit more money.

Almost the opposite ends of the truck scale, going from Venture low to Ace trucks though, but could be interesting!

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Cheers - I know it’s a hectic range but I go in between 7.75-8.25. I’ve been a Thunder guy for the last ~decade with a the occasional pivot to Indy in there. I tried the Ace Classic 44s once before 8.25 trucks became a thing and the idea of 8.5 trucks felt like overkill (~2015). I enjoyed the Aces but sometimes I felt like the trucks were controlling me rather than the other way around

I haven’t heard of any loosening issues in either the Ace or Thunder threads so I’m assuming I’m good to go with whatever I choose.. I do so many feebles and smiths that I feel like I almost have to try an IKP

Thunder 148 (8.25) are a good truck which also work on 8 and 8.1 size boards that I have had them on - just more or less washers inside depending on board width, usually with narrow wheels on the smaller boards to match.  They are 52 mm tall.

Thunder 147 would still work but the hangers are lower, so less clearance too.  They come in at only 50 mm tall.

Ace have pretty much all options covered, from inverted kingpin baseplates with whatever hanger option you could add to it, as per their online store, or just get a normal set of inverted trucks from a regular shop - they have them in 8, 8.25 and 8.5 options.

I guess it is just down to whatever you might prefer then, or what is more easily available.  Ace are more expensive, but people who buy them are often not so concerned with price and more concerned with how they perform.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Never ridden a pair but I’ve been highly tempted by a pair of gum/tan accels. Price is right with Black Friday sale, just look a bit kooky with shorts and a consideration going into summer in Aus.

Decided it’s time for a set of 52mm, wide Dragons (V4 or 6, I think) I’m going to check the local first, but if they don’t have them, I’ll search them out at a smaller shop with an online store.

I just got a pair of tan Accels, and I would definitely recommend. Ince they get broken in, they're so comfy on your feet. They can actually take impact, and have the absolute best, comfiest toe box coming from the Adidas Superstars I was skating before.
They honestly don't look that kooky with shorts either.

Been thinking about either the sma flying chiii pepper or the BDS 12x35 Beamer.
Anybody ridden either?
If I get the BDS one I wonder if I could get by on my ace 77s…not especially stoked to buy 12in trucks right now.

Converse store by me has these on sale 25% off but the chuck 70s are full priced?? Crazy they sale a pro shoe where profits go to their team rider but keep their regular shoes full price….anyone know if a pros shoe gets sold at sale price they get less commissions/royalties(or whatever it’s called)?

I think commission is usually paid when the shoe comes out - more so on how many pairs are made overall, not when they actually sell to customers at the retail end.

Some royalties are on a different scale to others though, so I guess it just depends on the brand and the contract.

It’s possible that no one gives a shit about skate shoes these days……and because of this, they are on sale…

Lows always worked better for me. I’m thinking rev lts, I like the green color way but might just do black for now.

I’m a big supporter of the barfoot/minimalist/zero drop/wide toe box movement, those the only shoes I was wearing before I was skating.

Not sure the effects on skating. I heard ppl say narrow toe good for flick but also to skate with your toes. I think it’s worth trying

Price a little high, but barefoot shoes brands always tax basically just because they can. Just hope they last. Will let you know

Ok sweet! Yeah I’m thinking the wider toe area might help with flick but gotta try to know. I prefer high tops and the ones they have look like they might be a tight fit for putting on and taking off and I can’t deal with that after Blazer Mids. If these or something else like them works out, could change the game for me, skate shoe wise.

I really liked skating in the 101s (leather) They are stiff at first but break in nicely. Also: solay runs sales all the time plus watch out in the outlet section for deals.

My flip tricks have never been that consistent, whatever the shoe…but I have big, wide, paddle-shaped feet, and having them hurt less lets me skate longer. So there’s that.

Ok, well that sounds promising. Are there any other barefoot style shoes you’ve tried or recommend for skateboarding?
