Sorry to go in with a two footed tackle from behind in a friendly here, but you can't at one point (and not unrecently too) say that people in Middle-Eastern countries (read Muslims) 'just don't want to live in a democracy' (whereas the nice, good, proper people of Israel do) and then be surprised people assume there's a bit of latent racism in your post about the ethnicity of players in different squads. Not saying you are a racist, that I am better than you, or anything like that. Just saying the mistake here doesn't lie entirely with someone else.
Aaaaaaaanyway, I watched the Netflix doc about Domenech and the whole saga of France at the 2010 WC. It's a good watch. Never really knew Domenech was/is a complete narcissist that shouldn't be allowed near a football pitch to begin with.
say what?
First off, I NEVER said that about the Middle-East, don't put words in my mouth.
Second, that conversation was 6 years ago. You weren't there. Why bring it up now, and in a football thread?
And btw I still stand by everything I said in that old thread, which is why I'm still here.
also now this: "be surprised people assume there's a bit of latent racism in your post about the ethnicity of players in the French squad". Where the f** did you get that? I don't think anyone assumed what you are saying. But people can correct me if I'm wrong. Honestly I just worried about coming off too chauvinistic or patriotic. Which can be quite obnoxious I find.
anyways don't try to pretend to be on the good side of anything when it comes to racism if you support Argentina, the most racist country in world football...

damn. Shots fired even before WC kick-off. no wonder an Argentina fan and my French ass have a hard time getting along. I've actually heard a lot of French friends say: I don't care how well we do at this WC, as long we kick Argentina's ass....The bad blood is real.
All direct, unaltered quotes from you, taken from the first page of that thread only (I couldn't be bothered with the rest):
"Other people have no state. Palestine is no exception, it is simply a trendy cause".
"Israel has been constantly expanding, yes, but why? Because its neighbors kept attacking it".
"Remember arabs are conquerors. Spain was colonized by Arab kingdoms for 700 years. Countries like Moroco, Algeria and Tunisia were not arab originally".
"Yes that was what I meant: Israel's ability to form a democracy gives it a "moral high ground" if you will".
"But if you take the exemple of Algeria, how long can you blame French colonialism for the fucked-up state the country is in?"
It's fine if you're a bit of a dick, mate. But just don't lie about it.
Also, I'm not Argentinian, I don't support Argentina this WC, and apart from Deschamps defensive tactics (that can work to the detriment of watching the biggest stars of the team shine bright) I can't think of a single reason why anyone would dislike the French doing well and becoming champions. After Messi won it in 2022 it's all fine whoever wins. Well, Portugal would suck a little, because of the CR7-Messi rivalry, but even that's a stretch. And the U.S. maybe, but only because I am European and I am therefore obligated by law to think 'our' football is superior to whatever they think they're doing (which becomes more difficult when they'd win the whole thing).
But honestly, I think we both feel the same at this point: we both had our say, and we're both grown men who should know better than to argue with some guy they've never met in real life about this in a thread about football (on a skateboarding messageboard).
Maybe that's a good solution to get back on track here: now that you know I'm not Argentinian (so there's no need to 'hate' Argentina for the next weeks for that reason) what country do you most hope will not do well in the tournament? Could still be Argentina of course, after Qatar 2022. Or is there a big football rivalry for the French that I don't really know about. Germany or England?
