I have skated about 8 pairs of the 440, it’s my personal favorite shoe that has come out in the last decade. Also I agree with what was said about the 420 and the synthetic suede. I put a hole in the flick area first day of skating them. It sucks because the shoe was great besides that, and after buying them for full price I was bummed.

To anyone who has skated the 440, does the stiffness of the outsole, especially in the heel, bother you? Does it soften up over time? I've only held them once in person and they felt super stiff even by NB's standards.

And to anyone who wears 9.5, there's a pair on paradeworld for $38 with free shipping: https://www.paradeworld.com/product/new-balance-numeric-440-skateboarding-shoe-blackgrey-54-17730839806003/

edit: the price on those is the same as the others now.. maybe it was a mistake

Outsole breaks in really well.  I bought another pair to have in the rotation, and the pair I've been skating for 2 weeks broke in really well.  Trying to break my new pair in to even them up.

Fuck those look good! I regret not buying when NB has their sale the other day.
yeah the 25% was solid.

The 913 ortholite insole fits in the 440 as well. Has a bit more heel cup and arch support. Not gonna run them but was just swapping out of curiosity.

Never thought I'd skate NB until I found a cheap pair of 212s at a Buffalo Exchange. At first I hated the toe and it felt like it messed with my flatground. Now I love how wide they are. I've bought a few more pairs because I haven't had a shoe feel this good in a long time. The only downside is that the laces do not last at all, but I'm willing to look past that for everything else the shoe offers. I can see myself skating this model for a long time to come. I usually skate Slip On Pros, but they're starting to feel a little narrow and cramped.

Is there a NB slip on in the works? Something as wide as the 212s with the same sole would be perfect.
Did someone say NB Slip on?  SHHHHHHHHH

question about the 440s, how wide are they compared to dunks/jordans? I'd like to try some but am not a fan of super skinny shoes because it feels like its much easier to roll your ankle in a narrow shoe compared to in a shoe with a wide base/sole like jordan 1s or dunks.

Ahh I see, more streamlined sounds nice, but hopefully not at the expense of stability. Size 13 dunks and jordans fit me perfectly so it seems like these should be good too. Any input on how they feel/skate?

Size 12 sb/Jordan 1 low lance
Size 13 440
Size 12 Jordan 1 low, non-OG

440 wider than Jordan 1 in forefoot, slightly more narrow at mid foot/arch. Really similar outsole design though.
Toe panels (front of toe especially) on 440 seem more “streamlined” or flatter/sleek. 1’s are more vertical like dunks in a way.

Aye! These pics are great! Thank you!!

If I wear 10 in dunks I need to get 11 in 440s?

very helpful, thank you. I don't mind a wider forefoot but the skinnier midfoot/heel area is a little worrying. When I try shoes I often do the 'ankle roll test' where I try to simulate rolling my ankle and I find that in jordan 1s and often dunks it feels a lot more stable and resistant to ankle rolls compared to some flimsy vulcs. How do you find the stability of the 440s in this regard?

@ok same size I’d say. I feel like Jordan 1’s run slightly big, and 12.5 isn’t often made,.. so tough to say. 12’s in dunks are pretty snug for me, but other Nike’s like the Sb blazer low GT are okay (run long). Usually 12s are snug and 13s a bit of toe room.

I grabbed a size 12 and 13 dunk and can take a pic to compare just trying finish this lasagne haha

Ok

Enjoy that lasagne!
Thanks for the heads up.
Shoe looks like a great alternative option to aj1s and dunks. Tbh that pair you have with the white and grey looks excellent.

I agree with tzang that the sole stability is where the anti ankle roll come in, these look wide enough across the metatarsals for me. I like midsole cushioning but often that places you up on top of the shoe, not in it, and ends up feeling less stable.

Thanks again!

Size 12 dunk low
Size 13 dunk mid
Size 13 440

Def a bit wider than dunks. Heel about the same, and if anything they’re smoother edged compared to the sharp dunk heel edge of the outsole.

This pic shows the angle of the toebox which I mentioned earlier

I skate 10 dunks and 9.5 440s. Relatively narrow feet. Lengthwise a 9.5 440 is exactly the same length as a 10 dunk, on the exterior at least.

Skated the 440s and they were incredible. Although I really didn't think they compared to dunks at all. Just a solid, sorta slim, cupsole.

I'm extremely tempted to try the 913's while they're on sale for half price here in AU, but I thought I'd ask for a more recent opinion on them - are they as good as they sound?

I've been skating jordans for the past few years but the price hike on GR's selling out in seconds and no more pairs stashed away has me looking at something else to skate.

Currently deciding between 913's and Rowley rapidweld's. Leaning to the 913's, but I just can't pull the trigger.

half price.. that’s really solid. Not sure about AU prices though. Which Jordan’s? 1? I’d go 913 over rowley. 1’s flick great, and the 913 feels much more streamlined and modern-tech as the 1’s have more panels and overlap.

I ended up pulling the trigger and getting them - half price is 108AUD, which is approximately 69USD... Here a lot of NB's are close to if not more than 200 bucks at retail.

I've been skating a lot of Jordan 1 lows for cheap, but I've also skated a few 4's when I find them under retail just kicking around. Pretty keen to finally try out the 913's when they arrive!

Did anyone else wear through the sole of the 288s super quickly? I'm two weeks in and it's going to happen any day now. I'm bummed because it's easily my favorite shoe otherwise.

I would agree that the sole wears out quicker on the 288S than other models like the 533.  But it has way better board feel and flex so I'll take it.

Also, I had the black/yellow 913s and that shoe had almost no grip at all.  I don't know if it's the yellow coloring, but I had to stop skating them from lack of grip and flick.

100% agree that the boardfeel was superb. That's mostly why I wish it was a touch more durable - it's the perfect compromise shoe for someone moving to cupsoles from vulcs.

I have two pairs I haven’t skated yet. The Davis and Jack Curtin 288S. Got those ready to go.

Yeah, the blue with the grey is money.

Was gonna grab these for 25% off when NB had a sale last week but didn’t have the funds until this week, but the sale ended already.  :(

Update on the 913's: oddly enough, they ended up being too snug, so I've run the gamble of exchanging them for a size up. Other than being a bit small, they felt great though. Definitely keen to skate them
