A little bird flew upon my windowsill and ever so gently mentioned to me that, sadly, Supra is to be no longer.
200 + employees informed of their immediate termination during lunch compliments of KSwiss. Highly vexing and very unfortunate.
-
oh, no.
-
Thought this said Supa got bummed for a second
-
Really hope not true. I know they're not to everyone's tastes but some of their shoes are sick. I've had quite a few pairs over the years. Best quality shoes. They last forever. I've got some Cuba slip ons that I've been almost wearing every day for three years no joke. Still not worn through the bottom

I was with some homies over at the DC Stevie Williams shoe release in LA a week or two ago and overheard industry heads saying the same thing while i was there
definitely didn't expect it seeing as how well their spring 20 catalog was executed, it seemed like they were about to start killing it again. Looks like the Muska 2000 will never see the light of day

Maybe they're riding it out until the end of Holiday since that's about to drop and production likely already happened? I heard that the layoffs happened a week or two ago so they probably already had plans for lizards shoe regardless?

I'm sure TK saw this coming a mile away
Supra's IG pages tell a different story tho...Not dismissing your OP...yo how in the fuck are there 200+ employees at Supra? That sounds like overseas factory staff? Maybe US staff idk...lunch for 200+ people to tell them they're getting fired is hard to picture.

That's not how I interpret "lunch compliments of Kswiss." I can't imagine corporate US staff, 200+ people eating lunch together at the same time, they would need a huge cafeteria at corporate, which is weird af. Factory workers in China or wherever the shoes are made eating at the same time makes a lot more sense. If they're made in China, they could be producing out of a different country to avoid tariffs.

I always thought they sold enough Skytops to keep the company going . And they always have interesting riders imho.
I've never been shy about being a fan o' their shoes and team, just today I was talking on here about the red Cuba's i got. If this is true I'll be very sad to see them go, their shoes have always fit and worked well for me. Wearing white Hammers RN.
-
wow the shoe game is heating up lately! It feels like a storm is brewing, something new. Perhaps reebok sb in the works?

If you put the Deathwish logo on a pair of shoes you've manufactured well you know how it goes.

You're right it's a message board and were talking about it. I'm not dismissing the OP, just saying his rumor sounds weird and their IG pages are still active. I'm being skeptical. If you want to get all critical no one on the forum is homies enough with people at Supra to confirm a 200+ US staff? LOL no wonder the forum is just braile threads.

https://seekingalpha.com/article/4292121-xtep-international-new-multi-brand-strategy-weighted-restructuring-costs-equity-funding
Maybe someone smarter than me can make real sense of this, but it sounds like Supra and KR3W are done?
"E-Land Footwear USA also owns the Supra brand and two sub-brands, PLDM and KR3W which Xtep plans to dispose post-acquisition."
"The RMB100 million in restructuring costs comprise professional fees associated with the M&A, additional staff expenses relating to the restructuring process, asset impairment such as inventory write-downs for the Supra brand that is planned to be divested, etc"
-
I hope it ain't true.
I want to thank them again for the demo they threw in my hometown: skated so hard, especially liz, grecs, and MVP Clint Walker who skated furiously fast and mind melted me trick after trick, he couldn't miss.
Compared to the other teams they hustled so hard.

My guess is they will sell dead stock at a discount then sell the supra trademark/legal entity to another party ala fallen. Assuming there is another party interested in buying the supra rights.

heard the same, was waiting for someone to confirm. apparently they're pulling the plug asap too, so even projects that have been/are in the works right now are getting cut/won't be released etc
sucks for the riders, i guess look for a bunch of footage dumps coming soon...?
-
its funny after everything TK never publicly aired them out. they sold shoes with his name on them for like a year after he quit. they were the thigh high skytops. i remember hearing he had a decent lawyer who got him a nice chunk of money from that. dont think hes ever even spoken on it.
that being said i thought they went out of business in 2014 when they gave me my severance.
cant imagine anyone that isnt getting paid by supra actually cares.

Kinda sucks. I never bought their shoes but at least they had some original designs like the Ellington and the Skytop 1. Feel bad for Greco, that dude along with Penny stuck with the brand since they first came out with it. Mid to late 2000's skate fashion died a thousand deaths today, announced on a lunch break is pretty harsh.

Supra will still be a shell of a brand for at least a little while. They are eliminating their retail presence and going direct to consumer. A Chinese company bought KSwiss and doesn't give a shit about Supra. So everything except the website is done-zo (marketing, sales, etc...). Shops are still getting their prebooks through Spring 2020. If Xtep (aforementioned Chinese company) decides to put Supra up for sale, someone could buy it and keep it going.
That's the story.

Yeah this is kind of funny. Not funny that dude doesn't have the corporate experience, because who gives a shit about that, but that he is arguing it's ludicrous to think a company would buy "200+" people lunch. I barely ever even bring lunch to work because if there isn't some event providing it for my org specifically, there's probably some org somewhere getting lunch that I can mooch the extras from. It's pretty much par for the course in the corporate world. I'm a corpro nerd confirmed.

Was their cake too? Sounds like good comedic material, sort of. 200 Supra employees having their last meal together sounds fucking hilarious. Maybe they just fed them soup. I could not careless if Supra shoes are not in the market anymore. Dumbfuck. Do I sound like I fucking care about a shoe wall at a skate shop?!? Fucking clown. Here's a sandwich and how to collect unemployment, have a nice day.
Yeah, people getting laid-off and having to scramble to provide for their families... laugh riot of the century right there.
-
I'd like to add the Spencer Hamilton shoe is working out great for me.
-
I just feel bad for spencer.
Prod will get him a fat Nike paycheque
-
Basically you haven't lived until you've been mass fired.
-
I just can't get my head around Supra actually having 200 employees...
Shit the team alone is like 20
Sales reps for US only is probably my another 20-30
Design/marketing team 10-15
Warehouse 30 or so
Team/brand managers 5
That’s roughly 100, then there’s international people. They were in a ton of accounts. And a ton of stores just by Zumiez stores Then real shops and everything else 200 is nothing.

No surprise SUPRA-se here.

If true I'm bummed. I've had many pairs of Supra shoes and never had any complaints. The Ellingtons, Cubas and even the Skytop 3's I was a fan off. Always caught pairs on sale but solid quality. Solid team, Spencer is one of my favorites and they always put out great tour edits on a pretty frequent basis.

I used to work at an e-commerce company that, right up until a few months before I started, was run like the third-generation family business it was. Shortly before I came on board, it was purchased by a capital investment company that had also purchased Supra.
This investment company worked in sort of the same way that house flippers do - they bought a company with potential, pumped in a bunch of money, allowing them to expand, and then sold them on at a profit when the time was right. This was the investment company that eventually sold Supra to K-Swiss, if I remember correctly.
When I started at that job, there were less than 100 employees in the whole company, between R&D, marketing, photography, the product teams, customer service, sales, and the warehouse. By the time I left three years later, the company had, by my estimation, tripled in size, bought three other companies in the same industry, and expanded the building we worked in twice after buying the truck depot next door and tearing it down.
We'd have quarterly "town hall" meetings hosted over lunch in a large open area of the building, where the CEO and management team would talk to us about how the company was doing and show us pie charts and graphs while we stuffed our faces with free food. That's probably exactly how this layoff meeting happened.
I have zero doubts that Supra had 200 employees, and it was, unfortunately, probably too bloated to perform at a sustained high level. I feel bad not only for the employees, but for the pro riders as well. I hope those guys get picked up fast.
Somewhat related: everyone at my company got a free pair of Supras when the capital investment company bought them...a month or so before I started. Everyone in the office but me had fresh skate shoes.

Years ago when Antwuan Dixon had a shoe for bit, I went to City Trends discount yo boy swag shop they had a fuck load of purple Supra Dixon’s I bought the whole lot of 11& halves and 12’s had Supra’s for two years only thing was they were canvas and would shred after a few weeks so I had a shit load of rights that were trashed.

They're opening a Ross here (Akron, Ohio) and I'm stoked. When I was visiting Nevada/California often, I'd always hit up Ross and I was shocked by all of the discounted skate clothes/shoes they always seemed to have.

I used to like their shoes before the KSwiss thing. After that the quality really took a dive.
Piggybacking on what I said above - the company that I worked for had a quality drop-off for in-house product after the investment company bought us out. We went from domestically-produced, high-end, short-run parts to stuff made overseas for cheap, and sold cheap as well. The engineers hated it. So in regards to Supra, that issue may have started before the sale to K-Swiss.

From Bertram Capital's website:
"Strong design capabilities but lack broad distribution and infrastructure to scale"
That was their assessment of Supra when they picked them up.
https://www.bertramcapital.com/portfolio/one-distribution (https://www.bertramcapital.com/portfolio/one-distribution)
They probably scaled the company beyond the point where its success was sustainable for any length of time. I bet the rapid expansion under Bertram made the books look really good when K-Swiss bought them, and it continued looking good right up until the point when Zumiez kids stopped buying them at a rate that could support 200+ employees and the operating budget for a company that large.

After Emerica, Supra is probably the brand I've had the most shoes. The SkyLow 2s are in my top 5 favorite skate shoes of all time. The Vaiders, Vaider Lows, TK Stacks, Chinos, all very solid shoes.
They really cashed in during the mid00s-early10s with rappers and singers rocking their shit, but when that bubble burst it was only a matter of time. When they had that team that was like 14 deep it was arguably the best team around.
Nobody currently on Supra will find a new full on sponsor.

Spencer will get another shoe sponsor. I could see him on adidas.
Muska will still stay working with straye.
Penny will hopefully get legend status some where.
Greco will skate for Ellington’s company.
Leandre will probably go to Nike, he is crazy good and still young.
Sasha will get stuck on a Canada program, even though he deserves more.
Lizard, Dee, and Clint will go back to flow.

Saw a few pairs of Muska Sky Tops at Burlington the other day. I had the TK Stacks in 2010 they were a great shoe. Does anybody know what Toms shoe is gonna look like? Hope it’s not a Timberland boot.

You should probably read a bit - let's say something about investment bankers, like Bain Capital for starters. Then go to your local Ross or Marshalls and look at all the Sean John, Rocawear, FUBU type shit and think about how it went from high end to highly discounted. Big companies buy small companies and try to maximize profits by cutting corners on everything. When the business starts to fail, they run up the credit as high as possible, put that money in their own pockets and then close it down. Toys R Us was a good example.
And exactly the same happens with bands in the music industry (in which I know my way in)
For example:
Step 1
One genre is popular > 5 bands are really putting in work and are getting pretty decent > recordlabel has an eye on all 5 bands > after a while two bands really start to excell, while the other 3 bands are getting there.
Step 2
The recordlabel signs all 5 bands > lets them record an album > puts all marketing on the two 'excelling bands'
Step 3
So the other 3 bands have a deal. But in the end they won't sell enough records. That's because they never got the right amount of promo. And that was intentionally done so all along.
Step 4
They get dropped or shelved for not selling enough
Why do labels do that?
That's to make money and cut down 'competition' from 'other labels'.
How?
Another recordlabel could have signed one of those other 3 bands and could have 'marketed' the sh*t out of them. That would mean competition for the two 'top bands'. But now that recordlabel 'owns' all 5 bands that 'competition' is eliminated.
That's how fucked up the world is, and happens each and every day...
-
lets not forget this gem.

But on a serious note, I bought some supra hiking boots recently when I went to Iceland, and they were EXTREMELY well built. Water, rocks,, lava, heat, cold... they held up really really good.
And a guilty pleasure is that first skytop shoe :(
Shalom!

I have pair of those Vaider CW's. The construction is awesome.
I used to get sample Skytop and Vaiders when there was still had a local distro over here. Now I hold out for the Black Friday sales on the euro site and have them brought over by family whenever they visit. After getting samples for years I now buy them whenever I can. I've got a pair of Bleaker, Vaider CW, Vaider 2.0, Atom, Skytop and Skytop 2.
Supra doesn't make shoes for most tastes but they are made very damn well and are well worth the money even at full price. There's just so much more to them than most other shoes.
I think one of their biggest downfalls was constantly dropping new colours and ranges. At one point it felt like it was weekly that a new colour came out and a new shoe was almost monthly. Even if they halved the drops per year they would still be churning out a big range.

This was probably already answered but who are their 200 employees? Workers in foreign plants? I can't image that between an owner, marketing, finance, a TM and the team itself their employee count exceeds 20. Contractors for capturing media, add a few more to that number.

Do you really think a K-Swiss affiliate - or any clothing brand, for that matter - operates with one-person departments across the board? Like, one shoe designer, one clothing designer, one HR representative, one person in payroll, one person in marketing, a TM, and twelve team riders, that's it?

From Xtep website
https://doc.irasia.com/listco/hk/xtep/press/p190502.pdf
They bough K-Swiss , Palladium , and Supra.
Seems their main focus is on the K-Swiss and Palladium ... Supra probably resold to another investment group in a side deal.
So wouldn't say Supra is dead probably just under new ownership.
On a side note my wife works for a large brand as a senior designer.. They got bought out by an investment firm , All key employees like her got a hefty bonu$$$ to stay.

So so much agree with this. This is how I feel about them too, but their image is seen as kooky from the cool crowd we all know that.
I haven't been disappointed or dissatisfied with any of their variety of models I've had over the years. They have some classic models that are just amazing for skating too.
Personally ive found the OG vulc sole Skytop to be one of the better shoes I've skated in - it just takes a bit of time getting used to the high top style for some tricks and the constant comments 🥰
Had the Vaider in that Tuff upper materialthey did for a while, another great vulc sole shoe. Vaider was a good shoe and a clever sensible shoe in their line; It was a Skytop for people who didn't wanna spend over £65 for em.
The Stacks I didn't have but a handful of close skate buddies have had numerous pairs and swore by them.
I had the Ellington ones with the cup foam sole with a design panel on the heel that made it look as if it had an air bubble. They were on sale due to the Colourway being so awful and gaudy - skated so so well and were as durable as the Skytop.
Wearing the Cuba's as chiller shoes right now and loving them. Very comfortable and eye-catching in a low key sort of way.
Currently 2 months deep skating White Hammers and they are one of the best shoes I've skated. The sole lets me feel the board and feel protected at the same time- again I think they have a hybrid Vulc / Cup sole but don't know much about it.
Whatever synthetic material is on the toe box is resistant to griptape and flexible on in the right way. Only complaint is the foam side panel joins to the synthetic part right where you get the standard Ollie hole - this has come apart as expected and caused my lace loops to be sort of loose.
Those are the main ones I have experience with and regardless of what sort of shoe you like to skate in I would say you could find a suitable one from they lineup
-
They had a good run even though they fell way the fuck off after K-Swiss got involved. They were one of the few companies actually willing to try some new design styles for skate shoes, and they team was top-tier at their peak. Great tour videos too, shame that they couldn’t stay at that level. I skated 2-3 pairs of the skytop 3, as well as the Ellington and avenger model which were all great shoes

I've heard the Skytop 3 was a nearly perfect skate shoe but didn't ever cop a pair due to not really being a fan of their aesthetic design overall. I know the construction will be solid and the shoe looks like it would skate well but they seem to me like even more of statement than wearing the 1's, and I have those in black 'gator skin.

That's what I was saying too, but I received angry "Christ almighty" replies and got my ass kicked for being stupid. I've been in the corporate world over 10 years and have seen a lot. Someone claimed Supra has 30 warehouse staff which seems really excessive (I have warehouse experience too). Then that person also said 20-30 sales reps which could be true but also seems really excessive. Then 15 designers, I would guess 5 at the most full time but that's just me.
Maybe they're closing down their stores? They have some international locations, and there's only 15 people on LinkedIn representing Supra. OP is just a cool guy and was fucking lazy and vague with his rumor spreading. Doesn't matter people are super butt hurt over this terrible news. At least they got one last free meal 😂

Everyone at that company, aside from the upper management installed by the investment company, was a passionate enthusiast within the industry we worked in. We were all very close - very much like a family. As cliche as that sounds, it's 100% true. We spent lots of time together outside of work, and a lot of those guys are still some of my best friends. It made navigating the weird new corporate landscape a little easier, but within the last year, so many people left, myself included. It just became too much to handle. We still hang out, and the stories that get back to me lead me to believe that things are getting worse.
It just goes to show you that the second they smell money, corporate greed ruins any niche industry, including skateboarding. Especially skateboarding.

Can confirm the first part, especially in the tri state area. I never had Supras but it's sad when brands go, especially in the hands of an investment overlord.

Sorry to inform you, but yeah they do. Even if you take your one person and make it 5, it's still not over 200 regular staff. You already know there's people like Alphonzo Rawls who had designed shoes and clothing for everyone but he's not a full time employee is he? Some of you are getting Supra confused with Amazon and it's kinda funny the fairy tales fans will create to please their imagination. All myself and a few other logical people are wondering is who are these 200+ people? And then I want to know what they got for lunch from Kswiss haha.

Sorry to inform you, but yeah they do. Even if you take your one person and make it 5, it's still not over 200 regular staff. You already know there's people like Alphonzo Rawls who had designed shoes and clothing for everyone but he's not a full time employee is he? Some of you are getting Supra confused with Amazon and it's kinda funny the fairy tales fans will create to please their imagination. All myself and a few other logical people are wondering is who are these 200+ people? And then I want to know what they got for lunch from Kswiss haha.

Fuck the berries but lizard king kickflips over the remaining stock of Supras

Rolled my ankle in a pair of Greco hammers, so fuck em.
Figured Penny would be on 3stripe by now.
Spenny has noike wrote all over him since prod hook up, or Tiago gets him on DC.
No one wants to give Greco legend status. So idk who'll pay to make his shoes or deal with him.
Lizard had a shoe, they took it away. Now theyre like sorry,we do ne
Don't blame Supra for your feeble, brittle physique.
-
I actually just checked the Supra site for what shoes they have. The Lizard and Flow look good IMO. Never seen any Supras around and never really considered buying them but I could give them a shot for sure. 🤔
-
I hope greco lands somewhere-was liking the look of his new shoe. That said I could never shake the image the Skytop gave supra and never owned a pair

Not sure how accurate owler is...It's got a limit on page views, then you have to subscribe.
But 43 million annual sales and 161 employees of course they canned it...if true...43 million annual sales is nothing. Especially with 161 employees or 200+ per the OP.
New LA HQ: https://www.sportswear-international.com/news/stories/Relocation-Supra-to-focus-US-business-around-new-headquarter-in-LA-13281
Can't image 200+ people working there and having lunch together. Article also mentions they closed locations in Santa Monica and New York City. I feel the OP meant he heard a rumour that at a Kswiss lunch they are canning Supra and then I'm guessing an email went out after the lunch to all the employees, if true.

Maybe you rolling your ankle was your fault and not the shoes?
My buddy works for customer service at a skate company and had a kid hit him up complaining that he broke his ankle ollieing a 3 stair because of his shoes, when there was no defects on the shoe or anything.
I hope you didn't hurt your ankle on a 3 stair too

why would KSWISS buy brands just to sink them.....didn't they look at the numbers of units & sales figures prior.
You're dumb, You're dumbies
^ this exactly

Gnarly and fascinating. Great post fella. Corporate culture is no joke and I'm at my first "big company" job and some days I'm just like, "What on earth is going on and what the fuck are these people talking about?"
The funny thing is that, by being the only person in the office without Supras, you inadvertently ended up being the most fashionable.
Let’s circle back and close the loop on this one. I’m going to reach out about interfacing on some growth opportunities and really drill down about empowering you to value-engineer your day. We’ll touch base tomorrow.

I'm just saying that if you're comparing the two, you are only comparing a division of new balance to the entirety of supra.
Supra focuses on more than skateboarding so it would make sense that they have more employees than new balance.
Numeric also doesn't have to deal with all of the manufacturing the same way supra does so really their total number of employees would just be team, media, and designer most likely.

The uncertainty in his post really makes me wonder what the hell is going on. Of all riders, I would have thought of Muska as being quite clued in / more involved with Supra overall but from what he's saying it seems they are in the dark as to the fate of the brand.

I just forwarded this to the FBI for further investigation, better lawyer up pal

éS should swoop in and grab The Muskatm and Penny and release both of their original shoes while they are on the re-release kick! Grab some of that real nostalgia money

Supra should've started a sister company for women called Fupa. Maybe that would've saved them.
-
Yeah, posting that a second time definitely much more of an impact. Good work.

A little bird flew upon my windowsill and ever so gently mentioned to me that, sadly, Supra is to be no longer.
200 + employees informed of their immediate termination during lunch compliments of KSwiss. Highly vexing and very unfortunate.
How come Chad Muska didn't get fired? He was in his muskalade looking for hubba's during the 200+ person lunch?

so if krew is gone, the ghetto child reboot didn't work out AND supra is gone, penny is looking a little light on sponsors.
lucky that flip is going from strength to strength.
Hopefully Penny will end up with another shoe sponsor. I'd see him looking good in Adidas but es should really swoop in and sign him and reissue his shoes.

Two years ago I was recruited to change this trajectory, and we have. First by narrowing our SKU count and focusing on what got us to the dance – being different, using premium materials, and rising above the norm to defy the odds.
Our mantra “Rise & Defy” is our rallying cry in everything we do. We ask ourselves every day, “how do we rise and defy our way through our challenges, and how do we create the best damn product possible, that will empower consumers to Rise & Defy past their own struggles in life?”
Supra remains at the forefront in design and use of crazy and cool materials. In order to do that, you need to have confidence in the products you use.
We’re not just talking about using the best, most durable materials. We’re also talking about who we partner with, how they interact with their consumers, and do they have the mentality to pass the “Rise & Defy” test.
Supra’s target market, while ever changing, is a combination of skate and streetstyle. Skate is a subculture unto itself with an independent, counter culture, don’t-bother-me mindset. Paralleling skate culture is streetstyle, where music meets art, entertainment and individuality through a skate lens.
At Supra we’ve literally opened our aperture to conceive the intersection of skate and streetstyle in a curious, fun and inclusive way.
Yikes.

Looks like. Muska and Penny is a pretty niche team. I'm sure they'll stick around so long as Supra keeps making space boots for them. Their insatiable demand for giant clothes makes them more likely to switch fabric sponsors than shoe sponsors. Sidenote, I love Muska and Penny.

no, not really
clint walker, dee, neen, lizard king, greco, penny, muska
not remarkable skaters or washed out legends doing nothing

Holy shit I totally forgot Mumford was on for a while. Slave and Supra - crazy.
I’m bummed about this somewhat. I usually like their team and at least a few of their shoes. I loved the first Double E reissue and all of its colors, as well as Ellington’s later basketball shoe inspired designs. The Estaban was super weird but at least it was different. Penny’s most recent models looked great. I regret never getting the Hammer, the Skytop 3, Greco’s dress shoe (especially in gold - so fucking gross that I love it), or the Elevate.
They sometimes went way out there but they were never afraid to do so.

Amazing how Supra went from possibly the most stacked shoe team to now two dudes who are even close to the pulse of current style and trends.
I had a bunch of Supras back from 2008-2015ish. The Stacks, Skylows 2 and 3, Vaider Highs, Vaider lows, Cubas. Just made myself sad
most stacked shoe team ?
no, not really
clint walker, dee, neen, lizard king, greco, penny, muska
not remarkable skaters or washed out legends doing nothing
daley is fine, spenny is good but he does the same stuff over and over
oscar landed somewhere nice, he was probably the only interesting skater on this team
You're joking right?
Twuan, Greco, TK, Ellington, Dadd, Stevie, Spencer, Oscar, Penny (not a big fan but he's a legend), Muska, Neen, then other guys like Boo, Romar, Pat Rumney was alright, Sascha, Dan Vaughn before he started dressing super trendy. The only 2 that I hated was Furby and Tucker. You're thinking of later years Supra but 2008-2013 was their peak. Go back and watch their tour videos from that time, you'll change your mind
if you list every rider since the beginning of Supra, it's a different topic
the last version of the team was a shadow of its former self
Ok I was wrong that Twaun was still on at it's peak, but otherwise the team was still insanely stacked. Yeah by the time Clint, and Dee got on it was just a shell but this era team was prime.
Help me out please. Who's between Tk and Ellington?
Also it's nuts that fancy press photo now only exists in thumbnail format

Glad I snatched a pair of Hammer Runs last year, shoe is super comfy.
When do you think they'll come back 2031 with the usual trend of things becoming "vintage" 20 years after their peak?

2011-14 I worked for Supra back when supra was relevant enough to have 2 stores in ny. I just remembered the TK lawsuit. They were producing and selling his horrendous thigh-high pro model (someone post a pic of them shits they were 6 inches taller than skytops) for 2 years after he quit. I remember hearing from one of the corporate higher ups that he got around 2 mil, and figured they were downplaying that number.
So I say all that to say what the hell did TK do with all that thigh-high velcro shoe money

If I remember correctly Mu$ka somehow owns the Skytop Trademark. This was why he was able to make shoes with that other brand with the prior Supra owner (Angel?) and also rep Straye for a while.

I don't think it'll happen, but Don Brown + the eS Instagram were liking a bunch of comments on Muska's recent Shorty's posts saying they should reissue his first shoe.
Again, I don't think it'll happen but I'd love it - those + his first Circa were some of my favorites back in the day.

I would like to wear these with leggings and a headband.
Also... so I never saw these ever worn in public in the USA, but when I was in NZ, the clubber / raver types wore Skytops as part of their uniform. Also wore DC hats and Independent trucks shirts and told me that "skaters are fags, bro". Confused for the rest of my life on that one

I have 2 questions, obviously you had to wear supras at work and of course they promo’d them to you. Was there ever a shoe you could never get yourself to lace/zelcro out of the box? Did you have a promo budget to at least be able to sleep at night after wearing supras 40 hours a week? Not a diss, serious questions.

Fair question. Google supra Cuba or Cuban. Use to just wear them shits in black and white. I kept them at the store though and would just switch out of whatever airmaxs I had found at Atlantis when I got there.
They did “make me” take a pair of skytops for some event once, but I didn’t wear them and nobody mentioned it. Apparently supra was huge in South America, tourists from there kept those stores open years longer than they should have existed.

I worked for a certain shoe company out of San Diego that will remain nameless for saving what’s left of my dignity. I put my wife through nursing school peddling their garbage and it hurt my soul so much wearing their shoes. I slept at night only because I was able to flow 20’pairs of shoes a month to rippers that needed kicks.

I’m working out in a pair of Stacks right now, the TK on the tounge gets me hyped. the soles incredibly thin and so thin I thought they were fakes but I bought them at Ross years ago and they came with all the hang tags n shit. I never skated them and the sole ripped in the middle of the shoe wearing them around
-
Any of you crazy dipshits ever skated Skytops? The first model I mean
Hell, I'll even take stories about the curiously named Skylows.
I owned a pair of the grey ones back in their prime. I never even cared to skate them (or even wear them in general) but Im 99% sure it would feel like if Timberland got into the skate game and you skated a pair of wheat 6 inch boots laced up tight to the top not broken in. They made a great pair of work shoes for my shitty restaurant job though. Stayed stiff for a long time. Pause.
-
Skytops are actually pretty flexy. They are vulcs so board feel is still pretty good. I can wear mine pretty loose and they still stay no way better than Vans do. Vans seem to slip off my heel all the time.
-
I had a few pairs of Cubas and Flows (basically the same shoes) and they were actually pretty nice. Not the most durable there is, but dope. As someone already mentioned - hella thin soles, crazy boardfeel. I wear my custom orthotics though, so it didn't bother me too much. Plus, Cubas look really nice for casual wear, I stocked on a few pairs (and Huf Austyns) for work when I don't have to wear dress shoes.
First gen Ellingtons, cupsole ones, were dope too.
-
I had tons of the Ellington Vega. That shoe was cool, definitely learned a few tricks in those. I also really wanted those Jordan looking Ellington’s but never pulled the trigger, regrettably.
The Cubans seemed like the most skate-able slip ons for those who don’t normally skate slip ons... if that makes sense.

Hell yeah, had the camel colored Cubas and they had so much boardfeel. Don't know what kind of compound they put in that Supra vulcanized rubber but that stuff was so flexy. Also had some all Black Stacks but I wasn't as big of a fan of those.
-
Got this yesterday
-
Holy shit you guys owned and wore Skytops?
-
If Supra is really dead is a sad day for skateboarding footwear.
Supra was really cool in a point in time, their image was great, their team was heavy, from hesh to fresh they had a heavy team all with great skateboarding skills and original personalities, and their shoes were really good and original in a time were boring vulc shoes ruled in skateboarding.
I had a few shoes and their soles, specially on cupsoles were really good for skateboarding.
Also I believe they were the first skate shoes company to fuse skateboarding, fashion, art and music successfully, apart from Vans, but Supra have done it strictly for skateboarding orientated art, music, fashion, etc, while Vans also aims to surfers, bikers, motocross, etc.

The indoor park I frequented from 2010-13 had a Supra account and... that might actually have been it. That sole was super soft, and wore out quick, but god damn it was grippy.
-
I tried on a pair of Skytop IIIs at a Nordstrom Rack a few years ago. They honestly felt pretty nice.
Now I’m searching for a pair.
-
I didn’t realize Supra received this much praise.
I had a pair of the Vulk Lows when I was in 9th grade and those shits were TRASH, but looked great.
-
I always wanted a pair of wine/gum chino courts or cubas. Their non bulky shoes were good.
-
Supras were super comfy. Had a pair of patent leather burgundy high top Vaders and several pairs of skytops. I didn't skate a whole lot in them but messed around in the Skytops and they were straight. Even played ball in the skytop 3s when I ran out of hoop shoes and since they were basically Jordan rip offs they were solid. Always got compliments on them when the brand was popping and I even had a couple pairs of TKs. I worked at a CCS when they had the stores around and copped whatever Ellington pro model was out at the time again a Jordan ripoff but still comfortable and looked good lol. I still respect the mark the company left to this day and especially that fucking beast of a team. Old supra tour vids still get me hyped.
-
I never owned a single pair but I did respect the team. The problem with having advertising that puts your riders in a light of being wealthy is I don’t feel the need to support them.
Show me ads with your top dude eating canned ravioli on food stamps and I’ll buy that dummies slip on.

They are Muska 2000s his most recent shoe on Supra. I might be wrong but I think the sole made them almost unskateable

A little bird flew upon my windowsill and ever so gently mentioned to me that, sadly, Supra is to be no longer.

"I would like to thank @suprafootwear and the massive amount of people from all around this world who helped bring this vision to life.
-
My relationship ended with the company almost a year ago but I just didn’t have the energy to type this message.
-
To be honest it was the scariest moment I’ve had in my life in a long time. At that moment this was my final source of steady income.
-
I had no idea what I was going to do then the pandemic hit and I was left in my home with my anxieties.
-
I snapped and started to build a concrete retaining wall, I think it was because I knew I had to sell my home I could no longer afford, so I started renovating it myself.
-
As I built the wall I was able to focus on my project and put all my physical energy into the build, not realizing as I built the wall, I was also rebuilding my thought process and constructing a new path for my life.
-
I finished the wall all by myself and realized that I can apply myself to anything that I wanted to and that I would not give up.
-
Although I am grateful for Supra, I also learned a very valuable lesson while working for them all these years, that lesson is, I will never dedicate my life and creative contributions to a corporation that never cared about me, they only cared about making as much money off my Passion, Skateboarding and Designs as they could.
-
No one there was my true friend, even when they all acted like it, I learned business is business though, and that’s just how it is.
-
I was constantly devalued and told my contributions were not the reason the products sold and that I was paid too much each time a contract would end, the longer I dedicated myself, the less I got.
-
I am grateful for the opportunity I had to see these visions come to life, but I was completely ripped off in my opinion and my generosity and kindness were taken advantage of.
-
Although this may sound bitter, it is just me speaking my truth. I’ll never look back and will only look forward to the future.
-
The industry tried to completely remove me and convince me I was done, so I had to create my own industry and literally overnight my fans saved my life.
-
I can’t thank you all enough!"

According to the internet, he’s worth 16 million.
Probably exaggerated but i’m sure he made some serious cash during his glory days. Back then, they had some killer royalties for those dudes.
-
I saw this yesterday. "..I will never dedicate my life and creative contributions to a corporation that never cared about me, they only cared about making as much money off my Passion, Skateboarding and Designs as they could." Isn't that every sponsor pretty much? I love Muska, clearly he's going through some stuff. I know he's been injured and hasn't been producing as much skate content but others have been called out for less for milking it. In my eyes he's really had nothing to do with skateboarding for awhile until those Prime decks. Maybe I'm wrong. And I get it he's a legend. But was he thinking "I'm a skate legend, I'm good." ? Clearly they cared about him and kept him on the longest until the end. What happened with Straye and that other brand he was working with? Hell he could revive Circa (for the billionth time) with new shoes and reissues.

Supra wasn’t on the ball 100% of the time but they were definitely reviled so much that their good shoes were unjustly ignored. Ellington had good shoes, some of Greco’s were good. I liked Spencer’s shoe. The Skytop 3 and even 5 looked interesting.

Yes corporation don’t give a fuck about you it’s the money they can make off marketing you. Muska made Supra what it was he didn’t need to step on a skateboard. The sky top is one of the best selling skate shoes of all time. So they weren’t doing him any favors by keeping him on he was keeping them in business. Which is why I think the whole core shoe company thing is so fucking stupid. Milking it is bringing no value to the company where as Muskas shoe sales alone paid the whole companies salaries.

I read that too and... started thinking.. what is Muska's livelihood? Hope the industry fully backs this dude.
Sidenote: when I lived in New Zealand, the whole club scene wore his shoes. Never even seen them in the wild in the US, but in my 5 years in NZ, saw them on the reg.
Muska for sure has shows in legit art galleries. I dunno how well he's able to live of that and his cost of living appeared to be relatively high but he shows out (back when that was a thing.) Supra was probably the old reliable paycheck.

So... Chad clearly had 2nd thoughts about torching the industry bridge that Supra may have represented; the text of the post has been edited to exclude the excoriation of his erstwhile employer.
-
The only Supras I had were the Lucien Clarke/PWBC collab from a few years ago. I liked the silhouette. But after one quick session I knew they'd be crap for skating. Toe box was very cheap and felt like a sock. I just use them for kickaround shoes but it kind of turned me off from Supra. This was way after their heyday anyway.

I can't find the video but there was a day in the life type thing with him at some point in the last few years where they go to his house and stuff. I think he drove a Prius in it and his house, while nice, wasn't filled with insanely extravagant shit. He probably gets a ton of stuff for free so aside from mortgage, taxes, maybe a car payment he probably doesn't have to throw down for all that much if he isn't partying.

I know the video you're talking about. The house doesn't look too crazy but it's in the Hollywood Hills and the property taxes alone could fuck a middle class income up.

It was his Epicly Later’d. They make a joke about the change from Escalade to Prius.
Don’t forget food, gas, insurance (medical, auto, and homeowners) and whatever medical bills he may still be paying off from all the years of back issues.
Creatives often seem to get pushed out of brands they help create. Not sure who is helping Muska with his business stuff, but it’s too bad he didn’t get a Stefan type set up.
-
thank god we have all of these core shoe companies that know how to treat skaters right.
-
did he not have ownership in krew/supra at one point? or i wonder if angel and him sold everything to kwswiss at the time. at that point you cant get mad can you?

You do know that Lakai is owned by HUF Worldwide which is owned by a multi million $ Taiwanese investment firm call TSI Holdings, right?

TSI Holdings is Japanese not Taiwanese
(a couple of my friends work for TSI...)
As far as I am aware Lakai (GIRL) are still backed by Altamont
(could be wrong though)
-
Sorry for the mistake.
Altamont sold Huf Worldwide to TSI
http://www.boardsportsource.com/2017/12/11/huf-worldwide-announces-sale-to-tsi-holdings-co/
Not sure if anything has changed since then but I'd gladly be corrected if Lakai is back to being "core"
