American Fiction.

I only saw one preview, which was heavy on the farce and stereotype, and that sold me immediately but it’s a whole other movie underneath.

Can’t wait to watch it again; glad I got to see it with a friend. Erika Alexander looks a good as ever.

Wow that’s damning!

I’d say the only thing that makes it less bad than 65 (not having seen ISS) is it doesn’t dangle an actor like Adam Driver in it to make you think there might be something redeeming in it

65 is just fine. On binary of good vs bad it would be good. Sure it could of been better and I'll probably never rewatch it but at least I could get thru it. I think in the past 2 years I've just turned off about 85% of shit that's come out.

Hah it’s my benchmark for any bad/lazy studio movie.   That benchmark used to be SWAT/Boondock Saints bc I was forced to watch them so much in high school that it made me bitter(er)

I can usually tolerate anything if I can tell there was an attempt to do something whether or not they stuck the landing but that one and Mario (probably by virtue of seeing them relatively close together) really soured me hard.

Anyone see Book of Clarence?   Really curious the tone of that one.   I feel like it’s not really a comedy, but the trailer wants you guide you that way

I'll have to admit tho I have a thing where if everyone tells me how good a movie is I almost always think it kinda sucks and if I hear about how bad something is I'll probably end up thinking it's ok. Not to be a contrarian or anything just like it will never meet the expectation either way.
In my head 65 is with Pacific rim of something I would of loved between age 3-13 and would have prob watched every day so I'm also considering if I had to put it on for my nephews I wouldn't mind it whereas I dread them wanting to watch gi Joe or and fast and furious shit

Somehow ended up watching this classic flick on the big screen twice this month, and it was engrossing both times. The level of character development and complex attn to detail that Mann put into the screenplay for this -- which has you simultaneously rooting for both sides of the law to win -- is unparalleled, except for maybe "The Wire" or "The Shield".

Have you watched the black and white version of Fury Road? It works better than I thought it would.

I watched classic cowboy movie Shane.

That’s funny, I thought about making that caveat… but the viewing experience and quality level was super similar.

Basically the director planted cameras all around the house/exterior and had everyone act with no crew visibly present.   I’ll look to see if I can find any videos on it

The Killers (1964 version directed by Don Siegel). Ronald Reagan plays an unconvincing gangster. Although, knowing him first as the U.S. president makes the role more sinister.

watched The Zone of Interest today.... fuck man that was a heavy one. the score + editing + camera work were exceptional. loved the droning bass with the cuts to blank screen + thermal usage as the bedtime stories were being read to show the contrast between families. bone chilling stuff. felt like a living art piece rather than a movie, which i think more successfully drove home the horror

1971 revenge tale, on par with levels of misogyny for that time period

roy budds score is incredible, would make a good intro for a skate flick for sure

First time in 20 years I went to the cinema to watch "the boy and the heron" with my gf. Normally I don't give much about animation movies but I really liked the art style, pretty impressive tbh.

Decided to check out L.A. Confidential last night. Goddamn, do I wish Kevin Spacey wasn’t a fucking creep. Everyone played their roles very well, but Spacey just stole the show for me…
