I want them to live here in Holland aswell. I also heard they can be assholes.
i think they just lack the obedient characteristics that something like a dog has. if you could teach raccoons not to get into your trash and make a mess, or to stay off your counters and out of your cabinets, then they would probably make good pets, but i don't know if thats possible.
when my dad was a kid he found a baby raccoon that was kind of wandering around helpless after its mother got hit by a car. he took it home and kept it for a few weeks until it got too out of control. he said it was so smart that it learned how to open the refrigerator, grab a jar of mayonnaise, unscrew the lid, and eat it all. not to mention pull out whatever other food it wanted and make a total mess of the kitchen. they had to take it to some nature center after a while because it was too hard to keep it in the house. he said it was cool if you were there with it, but it would get super pissed when you put it in a cage and left it by itself, and obviously you cant let one of those have free range of your house because of what it does with the refrigerator. id imagine they would get into all kinds of trouble around your house if they had the chance to. cool animals, but they definitely belong in the wild.
