back like we never left. 4 games on tonight, 2 with the tnt crew (big up, except they need to get rid of reggie miller, or keep him in the studio to get cracked on by barkley and co.) cleveland/boston and lakers/clippers. my preseason prediction says its gonna be lakers/celtics in the finals, celtics re-up'd and got sheed' and lamar odom married the wack kardashian.

I love the Bulls, but I'm not digging their roster. Yeah, there's talent, but no one is as loveable as any of the players from the 90s.

I used to really be into the NBA, especially the Knicks.

Now I can't really be bothered with rooting for that shitty franchise that it has become, but I still have a little place in my heart for them (a reeeeaaally small one) and maybe I always will.
Back in the day I would watch any NBA game on TV at any time no matter who was playing.
Nowadays I like to watch good matchups and even then I find it harder and harder to sit through an entire game.
It's still cool and everything but its nowhere near how raw it used to be, but I'm just getting older and more jaded about sports in general I guess.
I really think the Magic are going to win the East and the Lakers will most likely win the West.
I just watched a piece on ESPN about Ron Artest, that dude is AMAZING.
Seriously, the guy is so batshit crazy it's remarkable and I hope he kills it this season, he's such a lunatic but he is a monster when he wants to be.

The lakers need to do something about that bench. Some of that hurt to watch. What chuck said about the ring ceremony had me dying. I concur as I vomited a little as adam morrison, who averaged 15 towel spins a game in the finals, recieved his first ring. As the curse continues for billy crystal and my clippers I won't count them out until maybe the all star break if they can attempt an even paced win lose ratio. They were able to keep up with the lakers griffinless, that is when they wernt making textbook mistakes. There was also this question were the lakers competing at their prime or not. Only time will tell after pau "break my collar bone" gasol returns from his hurt pinky, er I mean hammy. I'm interested to see how things play out for new Orleans in the west and Chicago in the east. Kilgore may have a little negrodamus in him.

hornets and spurs tonight on espn, i'm actually more excited for this game than i was last night. alot of people have been saying the spurs are revitalized and ready for another championship run, and cp3 vs longoria is gonna be fun to watch. i'm glad i didn't watch the ring ceremony, but that old footage of kenny and ernie not letting barkley into the championship club and them joking on the laker bench was priceless.

agree man, times have really changed since the 70s-90s in the L. i don't get nearly the same excitement for the game like i would of as a kid, but with all the shit that's on the tv, i'm glad there's a game pretty much every night. plus, they did not have the HD jumpoff back then, that shit has really enhanced my viewing experience.

memphis has the worst black hole in the history of basketball almost, in zach randolph, talk about a guy who only cares about his numbers, he is the absolute last person i would want on my team. they also signed the aged Canswer, who started complaining the first night he played cause he came off the bench and i think played 20 minutes. but the also have a lethal combo in Gasol and O.J. Mayo, and lets not forget rudy gay who can put up 20 points any given night....O.J. Mayo will most definitely be a perennial all-star/all nba caliber player in the next 3-4 years. he's gotta all the talent and skill in the world, just has to get some more experience. but yeah memphis won't do anything for another 3 or 4 years, playoff wise.

miami heat son!! just leaving the game now, wasn't expecting that at all seeing how hot denver is, but miami is getting solid production from everyone, 5 of their players in double figures. plus denver didn't shoot the ball well in the first half, but they have nothing to be worried about.

Police: Anti-gay slur from Dallas Mavericks forward Tim Thomas set off Denny's melee 1:30 PM CT
Dallas Mavericks player Tim Thomas is an assault suspect in a melee that occurred early today at a Denny's, according to witnesses and police records.
No arrests have been made.
The fracas occurred about 3 a.m. at the Denny’s in the 4400 block of North Central Expressway.
Thomas could not be reached for comment. The Mavericks said he would not make a scheduled afternoon appearance at Amazing Jake’s restaurant at Collin Creek Mall in Plano.
Donnie Nelson, the team's general manager and president of basketball operations, said media accounts of the matter had been "way, way overblown."

Nelson disputed an allegation in a police report that Thomas had tossed a chair.
"What I can tell you is that Tim was not involved,'' he said. "He's 30 years old with a wife and kids. When the situation started to escalate, he left the property immediately. Certainly we're working with authorities and our security folks to get to the bottom of it. But this is something that's way, way, way overblown.
"Innocent until proven guilty in this country, last I checked.''
Police records give the following account:
Thomas, another man and three women entered the Denny’s. Damien Pettie, 29, recognized Thomas. He told police he addressed the basketball player by saying, “What’s up?” Thomas told him not to talk to him, using curse words and racial and anti-gay epithets. Pettie responded with profanity.
The man with Thomas then struck Pettie twice in the face, breaking his lip open.
“Then all parties within both groups began to throw chairs, knock over tables, and fight each other” until the store manager told them he was going call police.
A man identified as Thomas threw a chair that struck Moya Kissick, striking her in her left side.
Thomas and his group then left the restaurant before police arrived.
Pettie told The Dallas Morning News that someone else -- not Thomas -- threw the chair.
He said that when he and his friends passed by Thomas’ table and he addressed the player by saying, “What’s up?” Thomas responded that that he didn’t talk to “faggots.” The police report also quoted Pettie as saying Thomas used that term.
Pettie told The News he later passed Thomas’ table again, and that Thomas made another remark derogatory remark about gays.“I asked one of the guys, ‘What the hell did you say?’ ’’ Pettie said. “As Tim continued to instigate the situation, one of the guys hit me in my mouth. Another one of his friends hit me. They pushed me down onto a table.”
Pettie says he picked up a chair to defend himself. One of the men who hit him in the face then picked up a chair and threw it, he said. Pettie said he caught the chair, but not before it Kissick.
He said Thomas then yelled out that the police had been called and that it was time to leave.
“It was juvenile,” said Pettie.
“It was like a bunch of high school kids. It reminded me of high school. The popular kids picking on lower classmen. That’s how they acted. (Thomas) acted like a big bully kid in high school.
Pettie said that he is not gay, but that some of the friends who were with him are lesbian.
Colleen Kissick, 29, the daughter of the woman struck by the chair, said and her mother had been out celebrating her mother’s 65th birthday. They had just gotten their food when the fight erupted without warning.
“Everybody was throwing chairs and flipping tables,” she said. “It was just like an explosion.”
Kissick, who called 911, says the man who struck Pettie got into a Mercedes with a woman. She says the woman threatened to kill her if she gave police the car's license plate number.
“I don’t understand why grown men would act like that in a public place,” Colleen Kissick said.
One of the witnesses to the encounter was Roger Emrich, sports anchor for KRLD (1080 AM).
Emrich did not return a call for comment. Scott Braddock, a news anchor with the station, said Emrich would take part in a 2:30 p.m. broadcast interview about what took place.
“He was at the restaurant and he’s got his version of events that he will be sharing,” Braddock said

Man I've been going to Suns games my whole life and have never gotten to sit in the lower level before. I didn't even know where to look for the score since the scoreboard wasn't at eye level.
I was lower level, 20 seats up from the Suns bench. Leather seats, and access to the Lexus Club box which sat right over the seats we were in. And it was the Suns/Spurs to boot, a rivalry that used to be the shit when those two teams were ruling the west. I've got a soft spot for the Spurs 'cause of that rivalry and root for them as long as they're not playing the Phoenix. Plus I love the Big Fundamental so I was stoked to watch him play that close. G. Hill too.

Stoked on how the Suns closed things out this season but they've been fucking up a night class I'm teaching this semester. Last week I had to reschedule class to make the Spurs game, last night I let class out an hour early to race home and catch the second half of the Jazz game.

i don't expect that series going more than 5 games, in LA's favor.

when he got drafted to seattle, i was hyped for their fans, but i didn't think durant could do what he did in college (shit on everyone), in the L. 3 yrs deep and he's a scoring champ. i didn't think it'd be that easy for phil to get under his skin though. having spent a couple years of my childhood there, the okc thunder will always be the seattle supersonics.
i don't expect that series going more than 5 games, in LA's favor.
MS: you know the spurs are only built for the playoffs, it was a bumpy ride this year injury wise, but they are still one of those few teams that can just switch on when it comes post-season. SA/DAL series will be poppin off.

you guys wouldn't of won that game if it was 100 times over. doc said it himself, they were simply out worked, they didn't rebound well enough, couldn't get to the loose balls fast enough, etc. ray allen is a defensive liability against the lakers, he can't guard klobe (no one can) so of course he'll be in foul trouble if bryant drives to the basket on him every time. they have to do a better job of sending the double team and let the other lakers beat them, they have no other option at this point.

Jerry has been a penny pincher but in a strange way his decision to disband the old bulls was not a terrible move, look at Michael's career after that. There is a huge banner on the side of a building just west of the Q thats like 100ft by 100ft and it used to say "all for one" and when i drove by it yesterday it said "we are all witnesses" I'm pretty sure when i go back it'll be gone. This just prolongs the Cuyahoga Curse, Cleveland sports is fucked. I fucking love it.

wow, i don't get the miami heat hate. from the couple years i've lived down here and handful of games i've been to, their fan base isn't just a bunch of rich ass idiots who just started watching in 2006...fuck, actually they are, but i once met a girl whose father's been a season ticket holder since the zo' and tim hardaway days when they were getting swept by chicago in the first round every year. pat riley is the fucking al pacino of the L.
i don't think they'll have any problems filling in the rest of that roster, i would like to see how much cap room they'll have left after all the contracts get signed and how much they get for michael beasley.
the only fans that can be legitimately angry are cleveland's, but i mean they shouldn't worry, the owner says they'll win a title before lebron does.
i really didn't like lebron for as long as he's been in the league, just like i disliked kobe bryant when he first started, they were young and stupid to think they could do it all by themselves. kobe has finally turned that selfish mentality into a winning one and i think lebron is on his way.

yeah i saw that, that's fucked. as much as an attention whore as he has been, i do commend him on making a decision based on winning more so than the money. that was unexpected, honestly. he's going to be a different player next year, he'll be waaaay more magic than jordan. i can definitely see this as an oscar robertson year for him 20+/10/10.

As for Dallas, I thought it was a better deal than they've been given credit for. Look, we all want our team to hit a home run, but sometimes it's just as important to keep hitting singles.
And for once, the Mavericks stopped swinging for the fences and made a sensible deal that greases the skids for others down the road. By trading Dampier's nonguaranteed contract, along with Carroll and Najera, to Charlotte for Chandler, the Mavs greatly improved their financial flexibility going forward and did little harm to their prospects in the short term.
First, however, we have to discuss the alternative: Dallas could have gone for the home run and traded Dampier, along with two first-round picks, to Minnesota for Al Jefferson. This would have been a classic Mavs move, akin to recent trades for Jason Kidd, Caron Butler and Shawn Marion, but the pieces didn't fit. Jefferson and Dirk Nowitzki would have been terrible partners on the defensive end, and offensively Jefferson was never going to get the rock enough in the post with all the scoring-minded players around him.
What Dallas really needs to vault itself to elite status is a first-rate perimeter player; at the moment, the Mavs man those positions with several 30-something former stars but no current ones. With none available to be had with the Dampier contract, they did the next best thing.
By adding Chandler, the Mavs retain the rights to a top defensive center. Additionally, he has a $12 million expiring contract, which gives the Mavs maximum flexibility to pursue other trades during the course of the season. No, it isn't quite as alluring as being able to waive Dampier and clean the books entirely, but it's a useful asset.
Additionally, two other factors have been underrated. First, dumping Carroll and Najera helps the Mavs' flexibility going forward by subtracting $6.5 million in dead weight from the 2011-12 payroll. If somehow things go off the rails this year, Dallas could very easily get itself well under the cap next summer -- words that have been rarely spoken around Big D in the Mark Cuban era.
Second, the Mavs walk away with two trade exceptions worth a combined $6.4 million -- enough to land a fairly good player if the right deal comes along.
So it's not the Pau Gasol trade. But it's something. The Mavs have a top-notch defensive frontcourt with Chandler and Brendan Haywood, and they've left open a number of options for pursuing roster upgrades during the course of the season.
